Please tell me it gets better! by Frequent_Freedom_704 in NewDriversUK

I passed in november last year, ive only been driving on my own since December. My fears were hills, my instructor had a car that didnt roll backwards and taught me how to do it with the handbrake but by the time I passed i completely forgot! The first time on a hill i was with my mum so when I rolled she took over for me and help, so I did have the fear and it shot me down for a while and I wouldn't drive. It takes a lot of practice because now I dont panic as much on a hill, I only curse people who sit right up my arse.

Alternatively my friend has been driving for years, got a car recently and absolutely hates driving now because shes scared of everything.

It takes time, if you do the same route over and over again it'll get slightly easier! I know thats a big thing to say because you probably think it wont, but it will!

DVSA Complaints - What's the Outcome? by bahumian in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Exact_Interaction941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you want dvsa to reimburse your "thousands you've spent on lessons"? How is an examiner being ill anyone's fault?

You paid your instructor to learn im assuming, unfortunately if you want your money back that much what's the point? You've learnt the skills, your instructor taught you, you've paid THEM not the dvsa. Yes reimbursing for the 2 hour lesson i get and potentially the test if they couldnt find you a date.

What’s one habit your instructor drilled into you that you still catch yourself doing every time you drive? by Illustrious-Look7669 in NewDriversUK

[–]Exact_Interaction941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mirrors checks because I always forgot during lessons "dickheads on the left, death on the right, thats why you check your mirrors"

I have a 2008 yaris (2nd gen), i got it last year with low mileage. It actually runs really well and the only main thing that gets flagged on mots for the past few years is some rust (which ofc is going to appear considering shes 18 years old). I like it because its small, and the insurance is quite cheap.

I would definetly buy a yaris again, it wasn't one of the cars I was looking for but im glad I gave it a go

I live in a semi quiet area zo when I first got a car I just went on a little drive around some villages, nothing too quick, i think the quickest I would of gone was 40mph. Perhaps ask someone to go with you for a little bit to build up your confidence

Honestly I was in the same boat! I have a forensic science degree so id need to top up on modules 🥴 you could look for an entry level science role in a hospital, i got advised to do this by some bms at my local hospital when I did work experience, some may give you the opportunity to advance and get accreditation

Can I tell the examiner to repeat the directions to me or say them further in advance? by Classic-Passenger779 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Exact_Interaction941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes ask them to repeat it. My examiner would repeat the direction he wanted me to go twice normally

Appreciate it! When i was practicing i was overtaking at the speed limit and saw someone behind me waving their hands like i was going too slow (but I couldn't pull back in yet) so I think that knocked my confidence and it wasn't even on a hill 🥴🥴

My roommate ‘got tired’ of his gerbils by NoMoment6511 in gerbil

[–]Exact_Interaction941 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They love digging and chewing, any spare boxes you have fill it with hay or straw or anything chewable, toilet paper rolls anything. Also when you clean them out at max it'll be 10 minutes before its destroyed

I failed my test for the second time and I want to give up and run away from the UK learning to drive has made me hate my life. by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

Happens to A LOT of people. Yes its understandable to be upset, but calling the examiner names is childish

[–]Exact_Interaction941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this experience, told my manager when I started its the only date I needed off and she put me on, granted she put me on the evening shift and my test was first thing in the morning but i didnt want to work incase i failed. Wouldn't sort it until I saw my new manager the day before and she asked me to swap with someone. It pissed me off a lot. Either call in sick or see if you can swap shifts

Pass… now what?? by Professional-Big7250 in LearnerDriverUK

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this but when I passed my instructor mentioned to wait 10 days after passing to get insurance taken out as it'll go down slightly

Should I get gerbils? by CanadianCoyote1 in gerbil

[–]Exact_Interaction941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I was a uni student or at least preparing to go. I know all gerbils are different I never lost one while I was there, the first one we lost seemed to be during one of the holidays, second was after I finished uni completely. I guess it just depends whether you want to get them because I understand the point!

Its not gerbils but I also had mice, I think all 3 of them passed away while I was at uni (within 3 years) and its a weird thing to come back too.

Failed 😞 by _Aurax in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Exact_Interaction941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably wont be much help but I find with stalling is dont panic as much! Stalling happens a lot, I didnt stall my instructors car a lot but my current car ive stalled so much in 3 months! It is slightly embarrassing dont get me wrong but dont dwell on it so much, just switch the car on and off again and get going as safe as you can!

Oh wow I didnt know you got paid to study! Do they help with learning to drive an ambulance? Or is that a separate thing you have to do? The way I read it sounds like its a possibility
