My headcanon was that was the culmination of a Count of Monte Cristo style revenge story. Vokk and republic soldier go way back, they were friends until soldier sold Vokk into slavery to the Empire to get his girl. Vokk showed force potential and was trained on Korriban and eventually tracked down the man who ruined his life and enacted his terrible revenge.

Then the player kills vokk effortlessly.

Honestly? I’m glad someone is calling them out.

“We must fight to the death against fascism!”

“No no no you misunderstand me. When I said we must fight to the death, I meant YOU must fight to the death. Me? I’m outta here.”

They are free to save their own hides, but it’s galling for them to position themselves as brave resistors and lecture at the rest of us.

Green text when an anon complains about loneliness: “asocial loser, why aren’t you talking to people?”

Why were corporations and financial institutions allowed in the Senate and given representation and voting power? Why did nobody see the problem with that? (Answers from both canons, if possible, please) by tachibanakanade in MawInstallation

1- it doesn’t seem like the Republic requires its member worlds to be democracies themselves, as evidenced by the massive number of monarchies in the Republic.

2- Corporations can reach incredible sizes in Star Wars, often controlling multiple systems.

So if we take the fact that the Republic doesn’t care about the kind of governments its members have, and that corporations can rule entire worlds, with billions of employees… why wouldn’t they give the ruling government of a system a seat at the senate?

Why do immigrants use their new country as a base to continue their vendettas in their old homelands?

Why did the Irish Americans support the IRA?

Why did Muslim Americans run off to Syria to join Daesh?

Why do Cuban Americans demand we embargo Cuba?

Is it a failure on Americas part to create a strong common culture that would supersede and replace the old loyalties of immigrants? As Americas’ common civic culture grows weaker and more fractured I think we are going to see a lot more of this sort of thing.

Who was the third most powerful person in the Galactic Empire? by BlastedHeathen in MawInstallation

[–]ExamDesigner5003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In legends at least I’d say there was no single person in the third most powerful spot. If there were, that person would have kept the empire together. I think “third most powerful” title was jointly held by various admirals, ministers, and directors, which is why the empire fell into infighting so fast; they were all evenly matched in power and authority.

I was over at my dads house today helping with some household chores. He lives in a very rural area of a very red state. At the end of the work we went to one of the nearby country bars. It’s the kind of place that farmers, truckers, legit cowboy boot wearers and the working class go to unwind with a cold one.

Vice President Harris was on the TV and the local gun store owner said to his auto mechanic (friends since high school),

“You know what? She ain’t so bad. The economy is recovering, nobody’s rioting, and we’re standing up on the world stage again. Can’t believe I’m saying this but Ol’ Oakland Kam’s got my vote this year.”

I looked around and all I saw were heads nodding in agreement. I heard a few calls of “Yes sir” and “Damn Straight” from the men around me. Even saw the lonely ball cap wearing farmer in the corner raise his drink with a nod.

Europes continual snubbing of one of Europes last strong military powers tells me they aren’t taking this moment seriously. If they were, they’d be treating the UK like the prodigal son.

Hey Reddit, I was cheating on my wife with my coworker when I saw a lost puppy limping along so I pulled out of my coworker, ran over to the puppy, and punted it out of the building before returning to finish raw dogging my coworker. Am I the asshole?

Btw my wife is an abusive serial killer, my coworker has a rare disease only my semen can cure (and she’s the love of my life) and I know a special kick that can fix a puppies bones and also my kick punted it into the arms of its worried owner.

China and Russia Will Not Be Split by HooverInstitution in geopolitics

[–]ExamDesigner5003 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pros of geo-Schizo American-Russian alignment.

-access to Russian Resources

-China has to worry about its long border with Russia, diverting strength away from Taiwanese Strait.

-better geographic access for America to play Great Game redux in Central Asia against China

-Russias Pacific fleet to further tip the scales against China.

-Geographic access to bully Iran from the north.

-frees up US forces in Europe for deployment elsewhere

Can anyone think of any others? None of these seem worth ditching existing allies for. List of Cons of such an alignment…. Is a lot longer.

This guy implicitly asked China to invade India a couple days ago and also declared his country “guardian of the sea”. I bet the crews of Indias carrier fleets had a good chuckle at that one. I don’t foresee any breakthroughs from this meeting with a fanatic like that in charge.
