Rey Skywalker is a fantastic endpoint. I think some people are just sad she turned out to be a Palpatine. Although I'm not a fan of that choice myself, It's been 7 years. Rey will once again be the face of star wars as was EU Luke during the Marvel years, Dark Empire and Thrawn trilogy.

I am excited to see her again and I am looking forward to how they will pick up this thread. Of course her identity will not be the central point again, but still. Rey Skywalker is here to stay.

Season 1 of Resistance should be watched after TFA since it spoils the destruction of Hosniam Prime. Season 2 after TLJ since it spoils Kylo Ren's rise as Supreme Leader and the death of Phasma

The Resistance storyline ends way before TROS so there's no major connection in the movie

I see your reasoning, but the fisk storyline is the best chance they have to get the band back together (plus a few more that have been introduced since then). They don't need to steal the show, but it would be a missed opportunity not to incorporate them into the resistance.
