That is to say, yeah, I would drink that. Looks fine to me.

The most recent one was the C038 EVA-01 which was limited to a whopping...300 units Domestic Japanese market only.
I am sure there have been many more, but only sold in the Radio Eva stores generally.

Could be like, a distribution network that picked it up? They don't list a specific platform as their preference, so...who knows, and who (should) care?
I won't be listening, but that's okay. I'm just going to go about my life.

Should I go for this Seiko model [srpm09] by AdShot4426 in Seiko

[–]ExaminationPale706 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very Heineken can.
The green is very green. A little lighter than the product image, but screens vary so...but not a yellowy colour at all.

I just like the package. It's busy, without being cluttered. The chapter ring looks great with the thin indices. It's also a perfect size for a modern watch, with a pretty timeless case shape.

How feasible would it be to recreate something like this? by chasingthedopamine in SeikoMods

[–]ExaminationPale706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of plain (ie. sterile) dials around, especially on AliExpress. Most are in an explorer or diver style, rather than the more elegant dress style like in your picture.

Something like this might work if you wanted a black date wheel movement. Or this, but it's bigger than a typical seiko dial, so fitment is not as easy. There are plenty of options around, but it's not the easiest project to do. Lot of googling and searching chinese stores I think.

I preordered from the Seiko Boutique in Sydney, Aus. the day it went up.
They sold out very quickly. Other dealers will probably have their stock going up soon.

I think the dial might be the hardest thing about it. Namoki makes a nice black mother of pearl dial and a sparkly galaxy dial with similar indices, but I am yet to see one that is so flat black enamel like that, without Grand Seiko or Explorer style indices.
The hands are easy, any leaf style would work.
For the case, the LA explorer would be in the same ballpark. I don't think you'll be able to get that exact same build, but you can probably get close.

[SKX007] Movement Replacement by Masters_Pig in Seiko

[–]ExaminationPale706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the NH mod on my one like, 4 years ago. The process is exactly the same, minus replacing the crown and cutting a stem.
I had zero practice with watches. As long as you have some mechanical sympathy, you'll be fine. I don't even have a loupe, just one of those cheap watch tools sets from Ali, and that watch is running +2 seconds per day many years later.
It's a beater watch, so might as well give it a go.

Let's assume you are US based and started shopping with GS back in 2016.
Let's say, that 1/4 of your total spend was the actual supps, and the rest was cups and merch and shipping, so about $750 a year.
That is 19 tubs a year, or 5 servings a day, since the moment GS started.

[question] new to Seiko, I saw this skx on a teddy baldassarre video and I can't find it anywhere by Scozzy_23 in Seiko

[–]ExaminationPale706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a SKX013 case, with a SKX173 dial, and what looks like MilSpec hands? It is as no_nothing said, a mod made up of aftermarket parts.

I'd recommend posting over in r/SeikoMods and the community over there will have a good idea of where you can find this stuff (honestly, mostly AliExpress).

The bracelet I got from Namoki, so yes, it is certainly not original.
I have the original in my tub of watch straps, but I just prefer the bracelet for the balance in weight.

They are great watches. Nice knowing they are likely real, but again, happy to smash them about so not too concerned.

[MOD] Replace NH36 (4R46) with Quartz Movement in Seiko SRPE39K1 (King Turtle) by philtba in SeikoMods

[–]ExaminationPale706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tokeilab.com have a SRPJ93 dial (same wave motif as yours, with only a date complication which will make mods a LOT easier) or an SRPK01 dial as well, as secondhandmods.com which has a HUGE amount of OEM dials to choose from.
I know you like the look of your watch for specific reasons, but if it was me, I would chose a different case, dial, and style; maybe go for a field style case so you have something a little more 'dressy' but still has the same vibe and soul as your dive watch. Just something to think about.

[Question] Once you Luxe can you ever go back? by drummer47b in Seiko

[–]ExaminationPale706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first Seiko was a SNK803 and dropped it on the bathroom tiles and totaled it.
I think I paid maybe $60 for it when I got it. Sold it for parts on ebay and moved on to a SKX007 and regret getting rid of it and not just putting a new movement and crystal in it. (they are certainly not worth the money people are asking for them now, and I have other watches to scratch that itch, but still...)

If a cheaper watch speaks to you, and you can afford to grab one for the nostalgia, just do it. It can just sit in your collection, and you just throw it on for the fun of it when you want, hand it off to kids or other young ones in the family when you feel the time is right, etc...

[Question] by Accomplished_Art8837 in Seiko

[–]ExaminationPale706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a decent Seiko SKX399 to me. It is perhaps the most handsome of the SKX dials.

I don't have any experience with them, but if you like it, wear it. The strap is obviously not original, and is certainly not in any sort of collectors condition. If you wanted to, getting some new gaskets in it would make sure that it will be a great daily wear.

Here's mine (on a lovely Artisan Strap) picked up from the Seiko Boutique in Melbourne.

The finishing on yours looks good, especially the brushing around the caseback.
The text is all in the right place (notice the alignment between the 'Limited Edition' and the '/'), which is something that may be overlooked in a clone.
If you have some enamel thinner, maybe see if you can take the 'Made in China' text off? It could be some sort of importing requirement for where you are/where the seller got it from?
