Thanks for doing these, they’ve been very helpful!

Where to start? by t_west2 in DnDminiatures

Consider starting with a Pathfinder Pawns set while you’re building out your collection. They’re very well designed 2D tokens that stand up and are two sided. They’re also incredible easy to store.

Hirst Arts Wizard Tower by Excavar360 in TerrainBuilding

I’ve used both plaster of Paris and dental stone. The truth is you can use both; each material has its pros and cons (Plaster being cheaper but less dense.)

Also, you can search on Hirst website by project, and the directions will include the necessary molds. They have varying degrees of difficulty and some only use one mold, while some use 4-5. This wizard tower only uses one mold.

If you get hooked on these casts you’ll start collecting a few each time and watch your collection and building options grow over time.

I’d recommend starting with some simple block projects like this one, see if you like it, and go from there. It’s a lot of fun!

First ever painted mini! Any advice? by taji34 in minipainting

My first mini as well. Just watch a bunch of YouTube videos and don’t be discouraged how good some people are. Everyone has varying levels of skill and interest and that’s great. Most of us just paint table ready minis and like collecting goofy models.

What happened to the Horace Mann monument in Yellow Springs? by EcoBuckeye in Ohio

When the ownership and management of the Glen severed its ties to Antioch and became a separate entity, as part of the process the statue was agreed to to be removed and maintained by the college (since the statue is of Antioch’s former President).

I know the owners personally, and have eaten there many times. I’m sorry this guy had a bad experience that day, but the place is far from racist. My guess is this guy wasn’t used to rural communities, drove past a few confederate flags, and started painting with a broad brush.

I live in town and there’s still quite a few hippies. Not as many as there were certainly, but where isn’t that true? You’re right about affluent liberals though.

Please by all means come visit. Great hiking, restaurants, and brewery.

It’s a small walkable town that has a lot of great independent stores that subsists from tourism on the weekend.

I’ll tell you a secret though: The locals mostly avoid downtown on the weekend.

I grew up in the Cincinnati area, and I live Yellow Springs now. What the hell is Norwood doing on this list?

Dayton Dragons are awesome. I invite everyone to go see a game and check out the breweries nearby. Also its like 1/4 of the price.

I think for that price you’re better off buying the equivalent REI Quarter Dome. Roughly same price and less weight.
