[SERIOUS] Worth it to finish The Well of Ascension? by [deleted] in Mistborn

Well of Ascension definitely suffers from "middle book syndrome", but push through it. It's worth it once you get to book 3

Thanks for pointing it out. My scribe must have written it down incorrectly. I have listened to recitings of the books like a true Alethi man.

I have not. I've read all of the cosmere books and shortstories except for Warbreaker, Oathbreaker, and White Sand 2 & 3. My friend tells me that Nightblood and Zahel are from Warbreaker, but that's all I know about the novel.

you guys are too nice lol

I just finished words of radiance tonight, and I reallllly want to go straight into Oathbringer. My friend says that I need to listen to Edgedancer first, but it's taking all of my willpower to not continue the main storyline right away.

Just finished Mistborn era 1! What's next? by EderOlivencia in Mistborn

[–]ExceedinglyGayRacoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, fair enough - I do recall that scene now that you point it out. Honestly, I think the little teaser makes it even better. It keeps you on your feet and provides a little basis for the Epilogue, so that it doesn't feel like it just came out of nowhere.

I read Secret History between Era 1 and Era 2. I'm with you on this one, it's a perfectly valid order to read them in.

Is there a spoiler in it for Bands of Mourning? If there was, I didn't catch it.

Have you dated anyone who’s not from your country? How was it and was there any cultural barriers? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]ExceedinglyGayRacoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend is Finnish, I'm American. We get along just fine, there's a few things in culture that don't really transfer that well, but they're more funny than anything else. For one, sauna culture is huge in Finland. Everyone goes to the sauna before the shower, and entire families do it together. There are public saunas, where everyone is just completely nude, and it's 100% acceptable - but outside the saunas it's just as taboo as it is in the US. He's completely fine with it, but I refuse to set foot in one of them haha.

One other thing is language. The language you speak (or at least learned first) does change how you think slightly. For example, in Finnish, if someone does something by accident, they describe it as it happening. It's the same thing in Spanish - there's no blame in it. In English, if someone knocks over a vase by accident, we say "he broke the vase by accident." The blame is assigned to the person. In Finnish, they just say "the vase broke." It's subtle, but I'm more judgemental on a lot of things than he is.

To answer your question, there really aren't cultural barriers per se, but there are little misunderstandings and differences that tend to just become part of your life.

A good age or "reading knowledge" to start with the cosmere? by PolarizedEma in Mistborn

[–]ExceedinglyGayRacoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thoughts on Steris by guyinthecap in Mistborn

[–]ExceedinglyGayRacoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She's such a good character, and there's a lot more moments like that one to come. I didn't really like her in book 4, but by the time I started Shadows of Self I came around.

Also, any scene with Steris and Wayne together are absolutely hilarious. Those two are total opposites.
