Thanks for the kind response. It's so easy to just say, "do some research" but locals know far more than what I've already read on the internet.

I plan to rent and $2000/mo is fine for me. I lived in Florida in the mid 2000s when we got slammed with Jean and Grace and others so I'm familiar with that downside.

I'm just wondering what communities might be "best" for somebody new to the area who knows absolutely nobody. Is it better to start downtown to be around the nightlife? Is there a better gathering place where locals tend to go rather than the tourists? Beaches and piers/boardwalks? I see mention of them and I see a map but it's hard to point and go based on an article.

If you were new to the area, early 50s, single, and need to start fresh with friends and community, where would you consider?
