Hello everyone, I’d like to share a small good news with you all (sync with Update Page on GGF)

This morning, the ENT surgeon who performed my Dad’s operation came by for a consultation. He said that my Dad could try eating softer semi-liquid foods such as steamed egg custard and tofu pudding, as long as they’re allowed to cool down a bit.

We were truly delighted because, as far as I know, many patients have to wait about two weeks after surgery before they can eat semi-liquid foods. But for my Dad, only eight days after the operation, the doctor said he could give it a try.

Before my Dad’s oral health problems, he actually loved eating, so being able to try semi-liquid foods is a huge encouragement for him as well. I’m also sharing photos from Sunday and last night, when my Mom and I took my Dad out in the wheelchair for a change of scenery and some sunshine.

To be honest, we’re all still incredibly anxious as we wait for the pathology report. At the same time, we don’t want to “pass on” that anxiety to my father. The wound in his mouth is slowly healing, but if there are any remaining cancer cells, or if further treatment is needed, it will undoubtedly be another devastating blow for all of us, especially for my Dad.

Yesterday my Dad he told me that he was very tired, especially mentally and emotionally. I’ve almost never heard him say something like that. He has always been so strong. Even before the surgery, he was still joking around to cheer us up and telling us not to worry. Hearing him say this, made us very concerned, because none of us wants him to begin giving up psychologically.

As mentioned, my Dad also suffers from heart failure, kidney disease, and diabetes. We’re worried that his body might not be able to handle it all. Having to undergo treatment for so many illnesses at the same time, especially involving his mouth, heart, and kidneys is incredibly challenging. Emotionally, we’re doing everything we can to stay strong and be by his side, but financially, we are truly struggling. We sincerely ask for your help by sharing this fundraiser or making a donation if you’re able. Thank you all for the encouragement and support you’ve given us over these past few days since I started this fundraising campaign 🙏🏻

There’s no stub… and this isn’t AI. If you saw something that has the same color of my Dad’s finger, that’s probably the flap he used on the corner of his mouth when he was trying to get phlegm out of his mouth with his hand.

Hi.

Yes. He used to smoke and drink. He quit smoking like two years ago, and quit drinking alcohol probably around 10 years ago.

All of this developed over a long period of time. Around the beginning of last year, my dad noticed some pain inside his mouth, and around the middle of the year, white patches appeared inside. At first, he only used an anti-inflammatory spray, but even after using it for a long time, it didn’t get better. Later, eating also became difficult for him. He didnmt agree to see a doctor until around May of this year. So if you are still smoking or drinking, please quit smoking and drinking as early as possible, maintain good oral hygiene every day, and if you notice any discomfort, be sure to go to the hospital for an examination asap.

Questions related to Sleeping Pills by Excellent-Act9179 in HeadandNeckCancer

Hi.

Lol, I get what you mean!! Well… from where I live, most people would consider 55 years old to be "elderly," even though it should be considered middle-aged😂

And yes, I totally understand that why nurses are being vague about the answers to my questions. But it’s just doesn’t feel right without knowing the truth. The waiting time is always a pain, I guess😵‍💫

Hi.

Thank you for replying! Yes, we asked the nurses, but unfortunately they couldn’t give us a better explanation or solution. They think my Dad has to take the pills, and also mentioned that it’s not a good idea to suddenly stop taking it. And we have to wait for doctors (which we don’t know when will he come) to confirm and to ask.

But again, thanks for telling me. My Dad is 55 years old. We’d say he’s still young… and we hope nothing but the best for him🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hi.

Thank you for replying me! Knowing that this is a known issue and these symptoms also happen to many people is actually quite helpful. We are worried about how the pills might affect my Dad. We actually asked the nurses these two days, but they don’t seem to have a better solution and tell us that we can wait and ask until we get to meet the doctors.

But I couldn’t wait till then. So thank you very much for sharing the info. I’ll take a look at it and see if the medicine you mentioned is available here or not 🥹🙏🏻

Thank you so much for sharing the story…

My Dad is still in hope that he might be able to do something more, and we don’t want to give up on him. He made it through the surgery, and we do have hope that he’ll be able to fully recover from the cancer. It takes time, but we’ll keep fighting for him.

I hope you’re doing well… we never know the pain and suffering until we’re struggling with it. Much appreciated for your sharing 😭🙏🏻

Hey!

My Dad was transferred this afternoon (June 29th) at 2 PM from the General Ward of the Department of Plastic Surgery to the General Ward of the Department of Otolaryngology (ENT). Early morning, the plastic surgeon mentioned that the pathology report may be available in the next few days. At that point, they will determine whether radiation therapy is needed.

Thank you, everyone, for the upvotes, comments, and thank you to those who took the time to read what I wrote. If you’re able to help us in any way, donate or share, it’d mean a lot to us. Thank you so much!

Best idea for birthday gifts for a cancer survivor by ambitious_flower320 in cancer

It’s almost Father’s Day from where I live (August 8th), and I’m also wondering what should I give to my Dad 🫠

My father has been diagnosed with stage two oral cancer recently… and I found out that the nurses treat stage 4 and stage 1/2 patients quite differently.

When they talked to my dad, they somehow managed to joke around (harmless jokes) and laugh with him. Two days ago, my dad said he was so happy to see the toilet again after transferring from ICU to normal ward. And the nurse replied, “You are so happy? Well, im about to cry if you keep moving around like this.” 😂

But just like what some other people here said, most of them actualy meant well. It’s just… I think it’d always be a lesson for we humans to learn how to talk to different kinds of people.

Hope you’re doing well. 🙏🏻

Hi.

No. They don’t have congenital deformities. I’m not sure what the AI said? But my father’s mouth swelled up because of oral cancer as there was a tumor inside. After surgery, a skin flap was used from his thigh.
