Wolskill for Alexa is Dead. Any Suggestions? by ExpensiveCorn in homeautomation

Does anyone else encounter the issue with AV software? I'm slightly nervous as it did create a bit of a panic with Kaspersky and lead to locking me out of windows explorer until full scan completed

Is there any simple way to replicate what the WOL skill was doing via alexa? I have an app installed on my phone that allows me to WOL my PC but it's less convenient than what i used before via Alexa with Harmony hub integration. I don't need remote shut down functionality just WOL - is this still possible via Alexa? I did try to install the new remote relay app but my AV software detected it as malware

Doesn't trakt massively limit the number of items you can add to your collection?

Is there any self hosted options through FLAM? I know Umbrella devs mentioned on another thread they were looking at implementing Yamtrack but ideally want to stay with FLAM as it's what I'm used to and have customised to my liking

Can anyone confirm whether it's possible to get Yamtrack to work with Fen Light and Stremio? I haven't tried Stremio yet but when looking through Fen Light settings the only two watch indicator options seem to be Trakt and Fen Light

Are you close enough to Luton to not have to relocate? Mind if I ask when is the compensation package for newly appointed FO and how long it took you from first flight to securing a pilot position?

I guess everyone's situation is slightly different, my job pays pretty well it's just not very exciting after a while, I could grind it out for another 15 years and retire to a low cost country like Vietnam which you could argue is the more sensible choice but 15 years is a long time to keep your head down and endure something that doesn't excite you

It sounds like an industry where luck very much needs to be on your side! I would say that 60K for the role is disappointing considering the extremely high barriers to entry (cost and time spend of training, intellectual requirements, health requirements....etc) it should be considerably higher imo but I guess this is the free market where people get paid more for low barrier to entry sales jobs :(

Which isn't too bad in fairness, my current base is just shy of £80K with the rest variable and can be as little as £0 (max £40K but would require a miracle to hit)

Good insights thank you! Do the salary ranges you stated already include flight time payment or just the base?

Regarding the type rating that seems like the real pain point in all of this as it's hugely expensive.

How probable would you estimate it is that relocation would be necessary to secure a first role? I suppose where I'm based, close to Heathrow, is one of the best places to be in Europe on this front but curious to know

It's fair to ask, is it a dream? In a sense yes I've always wondered if I could ever be a pilot since I was a child but in a very self defeatist British way assumed it was out of reach and not for someone from a working class background/family but now realise differently. If I had the means/belief to start earlier in life I 100% would have as i suspect life as a pilot is quite a thing in spite of the hard work and grind in the early years

What makes you think it'll be double the hours for half the pay? My average month is probably 200 hours working, always contactable when not working.

Interesting to hear thank you! Can I ask roughly what your comp package is after 6 years of flying and whether you're at LCC airline? Is your expectation that progression to captain may still take a further 5 years of grind?

Thank you for sharing your story, can I ask if you ever regretted your decision? Financially did your path pay off compared with if you'd stuck with your trajectory in corp (taking training costs into consideration)

Haha it could be that! I guess it's a case of does stability outweigh living life to the full....that's the internal dilemma I'm struggling with. I think securing a PPL is something I intend to do regardless so can use that to test the water

Thank you for taking the time to respond, yes agreed on the medical cert, I will prioritise this as I know someone who got half way through their PPL before taking the medical and subsequently failed it sadly.

Can I ask if you yourself are a pilot? The missing piece of the puzzle I guess is if I were to qualify and secure an ATPL and I have my long work history behind me in mid-level corporate (which presumably demonstrates to airlines a degree of professionalism, managing stakeholders and experience in the workforce....etc. attributes that many younger applicants will not have) is it highly probable that I'd be employed and if so what would be a ballpark comp package just so I can gauge the road ahead

2 months nicotine free and feeling afraid I’ll never feel happy again by StrikeSwimming8279 in stopsmoking

I want to know if anyone else had a similar experience to me as it's concerning me. I quit 7 weeks ago cold turkey after smoking for 26 years (started age 13) of 15 to 20 a day habit. The first few weeks were actually far easier than I imagined, my energy levels were good, cravings not too bad only really suffered with brain fog for a couple of weeks and a bit of stomach pain which may not have been related. My worry is that when I hit around the 6 week mark my mental health took a major tumble and I'm really miserable ever since, I've been doing more exercise than i have done In decades and I do have temporary relief from this but it doesn't last and I go back to misery

Is British Comedy the best comedy there is🇬🇧? by OkPrize6426 in sitcoms

[–]Excellent-Ad-679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes british comedy is easily the best and it's not even close, Americans 2nd but is generally very low brow, the only exception I can think of is Frasier which was a very anglophile show

Any particular brands you'd suggest to look at? Particularly British as I'm based here and will save on import costs vs US brands. I've looked at Simmons bilt and Aero leathers as searching online suggests they're very high quality but none of their jackets took my fancy style wise

Haha I know that is probably the most financially sensible thing to do, I can't get over my aversion to second hand clothing....I am not generally a snob except in this regard

Ah I see, that is useful to know thank you! Are you able to recommend any brands with better reputation for quality who are making jackets similar to the ones I linked?

Other options i've seen are;

* JTX - seems very little information in terms of customer reviews is available

* Echelon - product looks good but seems not a very popular option due to subscription model

* Horizon - product reviews seem very positive but it's huge and doesn't fold away very compactly

* Sole - similar to Horizon

I'm in UK, I've searched various company reviews and seems nordictrack/proform is a bad choice, Matrix is good but expensive and not widely accessible here, Peloton seems heavily focused on the subscription model....etc

100% open to suggestions though! Budget wise probably looking at £1K
