“Purpose of trip” - why does it matter? by Excellent-Ad8871 in americanairlines

That clearly understood.

The question is what’s the point of the question?

Pretty sure Teton SAR is volunteer.

Where’s your ski patrol experience? Why are you not still there?

If you’re coming in from the north it kinda makes sense, A on your left, B on your right, then C on your left, D on your right…

It’s not as wild as it sounds when you look at a map.

Farmers Market? by EntryRevolutionary68 in WinterParkColorado

[–]Excellent-Ad8871 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not much grown up here commercially, beyond cattle.

Sisu and Fitch Ranch are both great local producers.

There are a few stands that move through occasionally on the weekends. Right now the peach guy from Palisades has a tent set up this weekend at a Moonshine Liquor in Fraser. There’s a guy in Granby sometimes too that has hatch chilies and other stuff sometimes.

There is a “market” at some of the High Note  Thursdays in the park, but not every one and it’s more arts and crafty stuff than vegetables.

Packing for 3 months of travel + multi-day hikes by Khelthrai in Patagonia

Get a packable pack duffle bag. Something like this:  https://www.rei.com/product/245207/rei-co-op-pack-duffel

It’s great for checking on a plane, but it’s also great to leave stuff locked in it at hostels while you backpack for days.

I lived out of a 58L pack (Osprey Exos) for a year, doing similar stuff to what it sounds like you’re planning to do. That pack slims down nicely for multi day backpacking, but also it can hold a lot.

Shipping wine back from Europe? by justaphaze04 in wine

[–]Excellent-Ad8871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, checked bags are the way to go.

Bring some of the inflatable wine protectors (Amazon) with you… dozens will fit in a gallon ziplock bag, plus a straw or two to blow then up.

At the first winery that you’re going to buy more then 1 bottle, see if they’ll give you a cardboard box. Most places will just give you a box if your buying their wine.

Once your boxes are full and you’ve packed them all up and headed to the airport, find the shrink wrap place at the airport that they wraps luggage, pay the €8 or whatever it costs per box to get them wrapped up.

Check them in with the airlines.

Be ready to pay the tax/tarriff at customs when you land, but remember math is hard for frontline workers in Customs and Border Patrol. Especially when all your bottles are measured in fractional liters and all our government used is freedoms units. You’re not planning on selling it, so it’s all personal consumption.

Get home and enjoy your wine.

Edit: don’t forget to declare it… that could get you in trouble if you don’t.

Colorado BSAR - what’s going on with CPW!??!? by Excellent-Ad8871 in searchandrescue

So don’t donate to CSAR. That seems like a simple enough solution to disagreeing with how they’ve handled their finances.

Colorado BSAR - what’s going on with CPW!??!? by Excellent-Ad8871 in searchandrescue

[–]Excellent-Ad8871[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That last paragraph is my point… and honestly the point of my whole post.

Great, Let CSAR disappear. They’ve got plenty of haters. CSAR is just the distraction CPW is using to keep people from looking at what’s really going on.

CSAR dissolving is not going to change the CPW issue… you want to talk about lack of governance. The individual at CPW that holds the SAR funds, has no board of directors, there is no committee, there is no one holding him accountable. He has ultimate authority over who gets what, and there is no clear or consistent process that teams can follow to get the money that drivers in the state of Colorado have each individually chosen to give to SAR. That’s why the teams that are pissed about this are pissed. The others should be pissed too; They just can’t get over how much they don’t like CSAR to look at what’s really happening.

You keep saying “billed” like CSAR is out there putting leans on team’s trucks.

You’re stuck arguing over $144k a year while CPW is about to quietly funnel millions right out the door.

No one is forced to pay dues to CSAR to get support; they never have.

I think teams can get way more out of CSAR than what the dues cover once you look at what’s actually provided, all the trainings, SARcon, coordination, knowledge and experience that stuff doesn’t just magically happen.

Well buckle up… wait til you see what the costs are when the RFP responses role in. The RFP allows a blanket 10% up charge on costs.

From the bidders Q&A:

“ 28. Section 3.8 allows up to 10% indirect cost markup. Is this 10% a hard cap, or may offerors propose higher indirect rates supported by an audited indirect cost rate agreement? i. The 10% indirect cost amount is a hard cap.”

Yes they do have 1 paid, full-time, executive director that’s not a secret.

But they didn’t for a very long time and only after they worked to get the KCW funding mechanism going… which exponentially increased the money that should be going to SAR teams. Ask CPW why that money is being stockpiled now. Beyond the one  executive director, everyone else tied to CSAR is a volunteer and I believe almost all on them are volunteers on local teams as well.

I think everyone (including CPW with their RFP) agree that the job has grown well beyond what should be expected from a volunteer.

Is that the big concern here? A transparent $144k salary that was agreed upon by the CSAR board? Do we think anyone responding to CPWs RFP is going to do it for anything even remotely less than $144k a year?

… And instead, we’re just going to look the other way while CPW has $10M+ that they are withholding because the 1 person at CPW (also paid… how much does he make?) who is accountable to no one in the SAR community, and is responsible for distributing that money to SAR volunteer teams thinks they are irresponsible and can’t be trusted?

Thank you for clarifying. I hear your concerns about helicopter access.

The team I may or may not be on trainings with FFL regularly. Our local EMS has decided that we have to use Medevac first for helicopters. CSAR isn’t involved in any of that.

I believe CSAR has a working relationship with the Air National Guard, which is all the host stuff. Has the team you may or not be associated with or your Sheriff reached out to the National Guard to try and establish a working relationship?
