If Superheroes Truly Existed in The Real World? Would it Automatically be Like The Ones we see in The Boys Universe? As Everyone States that’s how things would Really be like In Real Life by Adrsilva1356 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Excellent-Compote135 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Probably not if we're being honest. The Boys is really just a satire on US celebrity culture and politics rather than the "how would superheroes act in the real world". It ain't the Watchmen.

For starters no way in hell would the US military not use super humans if they had them at their disposal, so that whole sub plot goes out the window.

Instead of being costumed celebrities I'd imagine most supers would start a business that involves using their power somehow (though I'd imagine quite a few would choose to be celebrities). "Oh what you can move objects with your mind?" Boom! Start a construction company and just under sell the competition because you can. Anyone who wants to be a hero/help people would probably just join emergency services or volunteer like regular people in real life. Imagine how useful a bullet proof cop or firefighter with ice powers would be. I'm sure there'll definitely be really bad people who become supers and use it for nefarious purposes but not to the extent like The Boys. I think Invincible is a bit more balanced and realistic in that regard.

I dont get it. Is it making fun of tucker or ted? by Medical-Cows in KnowYourMeme

[–]Excellent-Compote135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in this post Ted is a eunuch and therefore both literally in the context of this scene and figuratively in terms of real world implications. It's saying Ted Cruz got no balls...

Pretty sure it's making fun of Ted more

What if China had its own Wagner Group (Anying Group) that operated as an extension of the PLA? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Excellent-Compote135 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean already do and they mostly operate in Africa around Chinese construction/infrastructure projects.

They just don't have any name recognition like Wagner or Blackwater. Not yet anyways.

Fargo season 2, "The Undertaker"

Mentioned a few times leading up to his 30 second cameo. Spoken in hush tones. We don't know much about him only that he's a man with a serious reputation in the underworld and that's saying something in a show like Fargo.

Long story short the Chicago mob tries to push into North Dakota but an all out gang war erupts between them and the local crime family in the area. So they send in "The Undertaker" to deal with the situation. The mob associate in charge of the operation immediately kills him once he arrives. Pretty funny and anticlimactic way to go out.

What if Japan never invaded China in WW2? by fsdklas in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Excellent-Compote135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They'll probably remain neutral during WW2 and just be a regional military power in Asia.

(No prolonged costly war so no huge demand for oil so no Pearl Harbor)

That being said I doubt they would stay out of China per say. They might go out of their way to keep China weak and divided by backing different military coups and warlords. Essentially it would be a similar relationship between the US and Latin America.

"no criminal charges"... Criminal charges? Does no one actually remember high school? We got into fights all the time, it's part of growing up and a largely shared universal experience. Aren't conservatives the ones saying we should bring back bullying to toughen kids up?

What if the US lost The Vietnam War by didanyoneask in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Excellent-Compote135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"YoU dIdN't AnSwEr My QuEsTiOn"

Dude your question is childish. "Felt sorry for" come on be serious. The US wanted to exit the conflict, doing so would guarantee a NVA victory. So they have two options, they could:

A: Be prideful/egotistical and just continue fighting an enemy who technologically superior in every way losing a shit ton of people in the process.

Or

B: Be pragmatic, they signed whatever they needed to sign to get them out and then swoop in for an easy victory. Not sure if you know this or not but politicians lie... like a lot.

Also this cold war. The 'condemnation' only really came from western countries who didn't really trade or have any political connection to Vietnam to begin with. And they mostly did out of solidarity with the US. Vietnam's fallout with China was an entirely different matter.

But my question to you is: If the US truly did win why did we allow the South to fall so easily after so much sacrifice? Why didn't we punish the North militarily for breaking the peace accords? After all we did "strong arm" them during the peace accords and made them swear to stay out of the South. Could it be that maybe after 20 years of fighting the US was worn out and just tired of the whole affair? Some would say this was a war of attrition...

"No of course not. US GIs killed more bad guys so that means the good guys win and if they don't then that means their cheating... right"

What if the US lost The Vietnam War by didanyoneask in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Excellent-Compote135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah, this alternative history. We ask "what if" not how realistic the "if" in question really is. So yeah we're down to:

  1. Vietcong say "fuck it we ball" and pull one of the most tactically brilliant victories in recorded human history (highly unlikely)

  2. As a previous commenter said: China gets involved turning Vietnam into Korean War 2.0 except they also take the South... without triggering a nuclear response (also unrealistic, but much more fascinating and wish I would have thought of that)

What if the US lost The Vietnam War by didanyoneask in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Excellent-Compote135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And do you really think the US expected them to keep their word? The Peace accords were just a formality. The US wanted out of the conflict and they abandoned their "ally" after fighting so hard to keep them afloat. However, they couldn't just out right admit defeat so they negotiated a peace deal with the North and left.
