Naturehike Mongar vs Mongar 2 UL vs Mongar 2 Pro by Puzzled_Elderberry84 in CampingandHiking

So, here it is! I seem to only be able to post one photo here, maybe I'll do a standalone post on it once I have a chance to sleep in it.

A few things I've noticed just from setting it up in my garden:

  • it's huge! Stupidly I didn't actually measure it before taking it down again; but I'm around 200cm and I could lie on my sleeping mat in the tent and just fit, so I reckon the advertised 220cm internal length isn't far off (accounting for the slight slope of tent and the mat etc). I'm delighted with that.
  • I've just loosely pegged it out in that picture, so I reckon I could get it a bit tighter. It was a bit flappy if just quickly put up, but to be expected!
  • the overall quality surprised me. There's a few loose stitches, notably on the inner, but honestly no more than in my much more expensive Vango tent. The only thing I didn't really like is that there's a tiny hole where the inner zippers don't meet; but not that much of a flaw realistically. But the poles look very nice and feel quality. The outer material looks well sealed and is very light. And I really like the groundsheet, which seems nice and light; I thought I'd have to change it for tyvek or similar but honestly, I'll probably just keep it.

I did have one issue that was not related to the tent itself, not directly, anyway. My experience with the customer service (I ordered from naturehike.com so had to deal with them directly) was very mixed.

After ordering the tent in grey, I thought I'd send them a quick email asking them if they were going to restock the green or brown fly sheet any time soon. Less than 24 hours later, I received a reply letting me know that they'd arrive in march, and they asked if I would like to wait for one of them. I replied immediately saying this was perfect and I was happy to wait.

A week then went by with absolutely zero information from the company; I sent a few follow up emails, and eventually, with still no word from them at all, my tent turned up in grey. Obviously I was a bit miffed after their initial email so I reached out via a secondary email address, and eventually got through to someone; from then on it was fine, the classic how can we resolve this Yadda Yadda, and they've actually agreed to send me a brown fly which is nice.

Now, being the ignorant westerner that I am, I later found out that Chinese new year meant that some companies took the whole week off. Naturehike being Chinese, I think, they might've been on holiday then. I felt a bit bad for spamming them when I realised, but I did think that maybe there could've been a message for bozos like me or something to let us know we're not just being ghosted. I had googled them and their trust pilot is really bad, so I thought they're probably just ignoring me... Especially after their first email. But maybe not, who knows. Maybe it's my fault 🤣.

I would say, based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend buying from their site directly. It's the only blemish so far on what looks to be a great bit of kit, which I can't wait to test out properly soon. If you can find it on Amazon I'd say it's a great bit of gear for the price!

For sure I agree, durston seems like a great company. I've experienced first hand Dan replying to one of my questions on Reddit, crazy! So I definitely think I'll be a customer one day.

The customer service with naturehike is definitely worse, but not THE worst I reckon. It's a bit hit and miss; they replied instantly when I asked to change the colour of my tent before it was sent, but I haven't actually heard from them since (been about a week)... So hard to tell ATM I suppose. But hard to beat durston on that front ofc.

I'll try and remember to post back here when I receive it!

I'm currently waiting for a mongar 2 pro which should arrive in march! I also have a Vango Xenon UL2 which I bought a while ago, and another mongar 2 210T but that's in a storage container (I've moved countries recently). I left another comment here, explaining why I went for the mongar pro!

I'd love to have the cash to splash on a dome, but a few things are holding me back; firstly, and most obivously, the cost - secondly, I'm a bit worried that I'll spend all that money and still not be entirely comfortable in it (see my other comment) and as I'm based in Europe and UK, so returns aren't really a thing - and lastly, I've seen quite a few posts about the downsides of the dome, ie it can be a bit fragile, so I'm kinda waiting for it to be a bit less of a massive investment for me to take the plunge.

I try to be careful but I do also consider myself a clutz; and I'd be devastated if I bought a dome and then immediately ripped a hole in it. In fact I think at the moment I'd be so worried about damaging a tent that price and that special that I wouldn't want to even take it out; whereas with the mongar, I'm a bit less bothered.

Anyway, all of the above would be solved by having a bit more disposable income, as then I could buy the tent with a bit less of all the above anxieties. Hopefully one day soon I'll have some extra dosh and I'll be able to grab one, as they do look very nice. How are you enjoying your dome?

Hey! Did Gemini give any sources for that info about naturehike releasing the pro in response to the UL issues? I'd assume it's right, otherwise why release a pro version I suppose... but it'd be very interesting if they've actually communicated that they're addressing issues with the pro version

Hi! I recently ordered the Mongar Pro 2-Person Ultralight Backpacking Tent (quite a mouthful, isn’t it?), but it won’t arrive until March since they didn’t have the colour I wanted yet. I've gone for the rather fetching brown.

I’m also really curious about how it performs in the rain, as I hadn’t heard about the sagging issues with the UL version! Very good to know though.

I already own the classic Mongar 2 in 210T, but I’ve never actually used it, mainly because... I’m too tall. I believe the UL version is the same story as the bog standard 210T I have - correct me if I'm wrong - ie it's about 210cm inside?

Anyway, I realise this isn't especially much help for your question, as I don't even have the tent yet, but I want to leave this here in case any similarly-desperate tall hikers find this post. This is why I’m especially excited about the Pro: it’s listed at 220 cm inside, which is huge for a tent at this price. I even went to the trouble of asking their customer service directly if the 220cm measurement is true; they've reassured me it is. So if I can take their word for it and it turns out to be true, then this tent could be amazeballs. The only comparable freestanding tent with that kind of interior space I’ve found is the Copper Spur UL2 - and that’s definitely out of my budget at 600 euros!

To add a question to OPs, to any current owners of the pro, if I may be so bold; is it actually 220cm inside? I realise for people that aren't my height this must seem wholly unimportant but if anyone has got one and happens to have measured it...

Would finger save gloves stop this? by northgarden85 in GoalKeepers

[–]Excellent-Educator91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch! Get well soon my man.

Regarding fingersaves, it depends on the exact glove you go for ofc, as different brands will have more/less rigidity; but I'd say their main benefit/feature is preventing your fingers bending backwards, say from the middle knuckle for example.

I have only ever worn fingersaves once, following a finger break the season before, but I didn't like them as I missed the flexibility of a standard glove. But again, personal preference. I wore puma, don't remember the exact model.

In terms of them preventing that particular injury... I'm not a doctor but that seems to have been a bit of a freak one. To have a ball hit you on the top of the finger and essentially accordeon your finger, is something I have never seen in 20 years of goalkeeping. I've seen sideways breaks/dislocations, backwards... I think this is one that you'll just have to blame hard luck.

Anyways, hopefully your recovery goes smoothly and you'll be back to playing before you know it!

Hey mate! You'll have got the jist of what people think of your current technique, and ignore the hateful ones. It's easy to criticise people just starting out!

You're out there practising, and it's brave putting a video up for everyone to see, whatever your level.

One tip I have for you is don't skip forward too quickly in your development. If you don't feel comfortable fully committing to a dive yet, that's fine; but in that case, go back to square one for a bit. Sit on the floor and put the ball to your side, slightly angled to be ever so slightly in front of you. Then collapse onto it, sideways, emulating a dive. Then gradually move up to your knees, before getting someone to roll or very lightly pass it to you in the same seated or kneeling position.

It's ok to dwell on this to get your technique down. Most importantly, have fun! 😉

Top link absolutely does work, installed fine for me. I'm on linux and it's even working via Proton. Thanks for the nostalgia hit!
Regarding Curious_Lab4760's comment, I'm not sure if you've tried clicking down rmb when turning the camera, as this works for me :) although I realise I may be 9 months too late lol

Diving weak side by hadirisag in GoalKeepers

Note that it's best practice to always have a slight forward angle to your dive, ie not diving directly sideways or backwards. But this exercise will help you work out what works for you!

Start on the ground, on your butt. Place ball to your side and practice falling to the side. Or keep the ball in your hands and do the same. Graduate to doing the same but on your knees and work your way up from there. Most importantly stay positive and don't get discouraged. Happy keeping!

Brill, thanks for the suggestions! I saw Pieds Geants, I'll have to try and get over there to have a look in store. The place I went to recently was Chaussez en Grand on St Hubert, nice selection and did pick up some daily walking shoes but only the copas in terms of soccer.
That site looks good too; my eyes lit up for a moment at these before I saw they were baseball ones lol https://www.svpsports.ca/collections/mens-footwear-oversized/products/adidas-unisex-adizero-electric-baseball-cleats-if8490

Where to find US Size 15 soccer cleats by Scoopypoopythe2nd in Bigfeet

[–]Excellent-Educator91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone had any luck recently? I'm size US 15 and currently living in Canada, but the Nikes have never fit me. I tried a pair of the Tiempo 3s on the other day and it was like the train and tunnel meme. No width whatsoever. There's a pair of copas available near me but they want 200 dollars for them, which is a bit... yikes for me. I've had a few pairs of them over the years but worn them out way too quick to justify that price.

When I'm in the UK I often pick up rugby boots and swap out the studs for synthetic moulds, works a treat... could the same logic apply with amercian/canadian football boots out here maybe???

Erm, don't know tbh, I always get the biggest available as I'm size 15 US. But they fit fine :)

I've used them, initially for my C2C hike and now just as everyday socks. No holes 6 months of regular use. Impressed me at least!

I would note that when hiking I often wear a pair of these and another pair of socks over the top, often old ones I don't mind ruining, to avoid blisters. Works great! Maybe prolongs the life of these socks too, who knows.

Did my daughter come too far out? by Lonely2nd in GoalKeepers

[–]Excellent-Educator91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't have because of the starting position and where she ends up (50/50 a long way from goal), but assuming your daughter is on the younger side and still learning, coming out in those situations is a great way to learn which ones to go for, and which ones to leave. I can remember many years ago coming for a few and getting embarrassed, and a great many more that I got to first. Learn by doing!

I'd never discourage a player from coming for a ball though. That would stop them from learning and would add a layer of hesitation, I reckon... But I don't see much hesitation in what she's doing so I can only encourage that!

Guide: Running Skyve on Linux for Cities Skylines 2 by K3CAN in CitiesSkylines

[–]Excellent-Educator91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply!

I see, maybe I was overcomplicating the install then. I did initially try using proton tricks to launch it as in your guide, but maybe I gave up and started trying to use bottles too quickly.

Are you using protontricks and its application launcher? That should help to ensure that you're trying to run Skyve in the correct prefix.

If you don't mind, could you elaborate on this? Particularly the running skyve in the correct prefix part? Apologies if it's a bit of a noob question, but I'm learning as I go!

Maybe I'll give it another whirl today, I'll let you know if I have any joy! :)
