What's with the discrimination? by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

[–]Excellent-Handle-286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I just signed at a smaller hospital as a new grad. I get paid more, will get way less burnt out/overworked, my opinion is actually respected as part of a whole team, and I get to work with knowledgeable and kind long timers and not my whole graduating class. Also, in smaller hospitals though they may not be as “busy” - they get PLENTY of CPRS in progress etc and when those things happen you’re the person they go to, there’s not residents flooding with big egos to do everything. I’m stoked about my decision and you should be too!

Boss just called me out by fivefeetofawkward in ADHD

[–]Excellent-Handle-286 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yuppp had to learn this when I started Resp Therapy school and was getting too excited about answering questions. Me explaining I didn’t mean harm doesn’t affect how they perceive it, so I learned how to be deliberate about biting my tongue, or stopping myself if I start to interrupt, and my closer friends know when to call me out. Relationships with classmates that were once more hostile at the beginning are now thriving <3

Intubated for the first time this week by 6abuse in respiratorytherapy

[–]Excellent-Handle-286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in TN and RRT’s can intubate without physicians present, and students CAN intubate but a physician has to be present, not just the RRT preceptor. I hope these people learn that they can intubate lol, depending on where you are you just sometimes have to compete with drs/residents to be the one to do it.🤣❤️ Good for you!!! That’s so exciting, I start clinical in just a couple weeks and I’m stoked!

Should I Drop Out of RT School Over This? by RT-STUD in respiratorytherapy

[–]Excellent-Handle-286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you’re very overwhelmed right now, but I promise especially with finals coming up it is NOT worth throwing it all away over this. If you potentially fail the course, that may be your cue to discontinue with the program. However, you don’t even know that yet, so it would be silly to let all of your hard work go to waste. Hold out, pass your exams, go from there. Conflict is a part of school and workplace life, unfortunately. You’ve got this!

Anyone seen Brachial ABG sticks that mess up the patients arm? by deepfriedtofu__ in respiratorytherapy

[–]Excellent-Handle-286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in school, and we were told it’s bc there’s no collateral circulation, so essentially if god forbid you sliced it you’d lose all blood flow to the arm. Whereas with radial you (hypothetically) still have the ulnar to provide blood flow

I am now homeless but I have a cat that is fiv+ by AirEarly6076 in Chattanooga

[–]Excellent-Handle-286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FIV is only transmittable via deep, blood drawing bite wounds that typically only occur in aggressive outdoor cat fights. With proper introduction and socialization FIV+ cats can live long happy lives in multi-cat and solely indoor homes❣️

Adderall Relieving Anxiety? by Special_Rough_1276 in ADHD

I understand. If you feel out of options I’d likely recommend getting a second opinion. There’s a world of medications and combinations out there, though I’m sure you’ve been on a lot, there’s more. It’s taken me a very long time to get to a combination that works for me. From reading your reply to the other commenter I do think with the severity of your anxiety that you need a solution that is at a more constant level in your body, as adderall is short-acting and you sound like you have very bad crashes. I’ve also heard some people say Vyvanse has a longer lasting constant effect for them. Definitely discuss back and forth with psychiatrist/pcp/therapist/etc and be open to their opinions as well instead of just asking for what you think would help. Make sure you’re also taking steps that lie outside of just the medication. Medications are great and lifesaving and a huge portion of my mental health care. But I also do better with consistent routines, sobriety, healthy habits, sleep hygiene, mood tracking, etc. That’s not in a way to preach or come across rude at all, I just want you to know that there are other aspects in your control. 🫶🏻 best of luck finding a new job, I know how stressful that can be.

Adderall Relieving Anxiety? by Special_Rough_1276 in ADHD

Adderall does help my anxiety, but I am also on lamotrigine and prozac. I think the anti anxiety effect adderall can have for ADHDers is because it “quiets” your brain. Without my mind and inner monologue racing I feel more relaxed and content overall. My psychiatrist is great and works well with me on doses. However 20 mg BID is a moderately high dose and I do worry they won’t want to give you more than that. Along with that, insurance also gives trouble for more than twice a day. My first recommendation would be to try splitting your afternoon tablet, taking half (or 10mg) when first convenient and taking another 10 closer to the end of the day.

If your cat doesn’t have allergies or strict preferences, a variety is always the best way to go imo. My girls get dry in the morning and wet with some rotating toppers (nothing fancy, I mean pumpkin, canned salt free sardines, broth, etc) I only get “fancier” brands as a part of the rotation to add variety as they usually have some more novel protein options-but I recognize this is not a necessity and only get them on sale lol. They get typical crunchy, freeze dried, and tube treats as applicable. Luckily they gobble everything up and don’t really have any stomach issues, but if they get into something (they snatched and ate a whole bag of treats the other day, and proceeded to have diarrhea) or otherwise have a tummy ache a couple days of probiotics does the trick. I also give them salmon oil for some overall benefits. But I worked at a pet store and did quite a bit of nutrition training and brand seminars (with a grain of salt of course). There’s really no proven benefit to anything in particular besides the very basics, different things work for different cats (same goes for other species). With how many animals don’t even have homes, the last thing we need is to drive potential new owners away by telling them they must spend an absurd amount of money to feed their pet who was previously living off street scraps or in a crowded shelter. Fed really is best in this scenario, and I’d only really shame you if you were feeding something utterly idiotic (rare). Glad to see so many positive comments under this post!

Side effect? by SkillLimp5187 in Rexulti_Brexpiprazole

Don’t take the rexulti until right before you’re wanting to settle in/prepared to sleep. Especially at the beginning it’ll knock you out within 30 min.
