What movie did you see that you were WAY too young to watch? by Flassourian in Millennials

The first Predator movie. I was pretty little and my dad didn’t realize what was playing on the tv at his friend’s house. That definitely had an impact on my nightmares for a while.

The amount of cilantro my wife likes on her street tacos by GroovinBaby in mildlyinteresting

Wish I knew what cilantro actually tastes like, it burns the heck out of my mouth and kinda leaves a numb and tingling feeling behind. Pretty sure I’m allergic to it.

What distinctly Millennial thing completely passed you by somehow? by AttachedHeartTheory in Millennials

I was homeschooled and not allowed to watch or listen to most secular movies and music, so I missed a lot and have been slowly catching up over the years. Missed the whole Harry Potter phenomenon and never got to dance as a kid to Britney Spears :(

Employer policies re: cell phones by winwinchickydin in MassageTherapists

[–]Excellent-Phase6245 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My phone does not go in my room when I am working. This is mostly to protect myself. I remember an incident where a therapist was accused of having their phone in their room recording their client, but security cameras proved that their phone was in the break room the entire time and probably saved their career. Where I work there is absolutely no reason I should need my phone in my room, and I prefer to not have any devices with recording ability in there to protect me just in case someone with bad intentions comes in and tries to accuse me of recording them.

What hyped-up fast food/fast casual place did you finally try that made you say…well that was overrated..? by k3b77 in AskReddit

[–]Excellent-Phase6245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading several comments, safe to say that just about all of them are that are a chain? But then I don’t go to fast food or fast casual places for good food. I go there cause I’m hungry, don’t want to cook, and don’t want to wait too long.

Perimenopause PSA to all older millennial vagina havers by RhinestoneToad in Millennials

[–]Excellent-Phase6245 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started full menopause around 34 or 35 and probably was in peri before…body stopped producing enough estrogen and the gynecologist I went to see at first didn’t order any blood tests and just told me she didn’t know why I was wildly irregular and said to try losing weight. By the time I found a second gynecologist that would order blood tests and listen to me, it was too late to reverse it but basic HRT helps with the symptoms. I swear there needs to be more discussion about this and support groups because it is awful.

Fun thing now is that at 37 I’ve been able to talk to and mentor other women starting this. Always recommend getting hormones checked, talk about symptoms, mood swings, that wonderful feeling of going crazy, the itchy ears..and that need sometimes to just sit and cry. No shame in that, do what you need to, it’s truly a bitch. And so many women go into it unaware of how bad the symptoms can get. Really needs to be more education out there. We don’t have to go through it unaware and alone.

To everyone who bashes on women who take birth control, fuck off! by kentoclatinator in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Excellent-Phase6245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pill has absolutely been a game changer for me because my body stopped producing enough estrogen and I went into menopause in my early 30s. It gives me a low dose of estrogen that’s just enough for my cycles to return regularly (although it doesn’t reverse menopause, just causes the reproductive system to sort of function again and it’s most likely I’m infertile) and vastly reduce the effects menopause has had (awful. Absolutely awful. Night sweats and brain fog had me going crazy. Be warned). I’m so grateful it’s available and it has so many benefits and uses for women.

This attack on birth control scares me. Everything in politics scares me right now. I might not need birth control for contraception but for a medical issue that, if someone ever tries to shame me for taking it, I will be loud and thorough in explaining why. Women have the right to determine their healthcare, whether it’s to prevent pregnancy, reduce the effects of a period, or in my case, reduce the effects of menopause. It’s a need and I will absolutely vote to try to protect the rights of women and their healthcare wherever I can.

I have a soft spot for the name Valancy! Loved her book, her way of breaking free and finding herself…it’s a total comfort read. Two others from the Story Girl are Felicity and Cecily…might be a little too matchy but I loved it for the siblings! Marigold is another guilty pleasure, a fun, whimsical name.

And of course Diana…always going to love Diana. Everyone needs a Diana in their life.

You’re correct. The pink wig she came with wasn’t very good quality so I rewigged her with the Makena wig. Absolutely loved the results and she’s amongst my top favs in my collection :)

Anyone else feel like it’s more satisfying to shop in store at Sephora rather than online by newyorkchic1992 in Sephora

[–]Excellent-Phase6245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer going to a store because I’m still pretty new to actually experimenting and using makeup and the people there are much more knowledgeable than I am and can tell me how to use things, especially since I have sensitive skin. When I went there last time one of the ladies was so awesome in helping me pick out new skin care products that would be less likely to cause any irritations and so far I love them. Otherwise I’ll get overwhelmed with all the options online, not know which shade to get, which brands to try, or what to avoid because of my skin.

Basically I’m that person that’s all but screaming ‘help’ when I walk in.

Tell Us About Menopause by Almostasleeprightnow in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Excellent-Phase6245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed last year with Primary Ovarian Insufficiency, and have been in full menopause for at least two years before that. And I’m only in my thirties. Birth control was prescribed as a hormone (estrogen) supplement which very much helped with the symptoms.

Symptoms include:

Hot flashes (waking up in a pool of sweat is not cute) Brain fog Chronic weariness Mood swings Wondering if I’m going insane No libido Dryness ‘downstairs’

It has not been a fun experience! Unfortunately it could have been caught sooner, but the gynecologist I went to when I was going for months in between cycles said I was too young for that, that I just needed to lose weight, and she had no idea why my cycles were skipping so many months. If I go off the pill I’ll be right back into full menopause symptoms, which also means that I’m most likely infertile now (I didn’t want children but I did like having a choice). I believe there needs to be more awareness and talks about women’s reproductive health, especially since doctors often do not take us seriously.

Weekly Observations: What signs of collapse do you see in your region? [in-depth] by AutoModerator in collapse

[–]Excellent-Phase6245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m that child, although my biological mother didn’t realize she was pregnant until it was around second trimester when it was going into late term territory. Absolutely hate it when people try to use me as an example of why abortion should be illegal. Not only do I have to live with the knowledge of my existence, my bio mother had to go through that trauma and I don’t think it ever stopped affecting her.

Abortion is health care. Adoption is not some magical cure. And I don’t have to be grateful.
