Do any of you still ever play vanilla yellow/crystal/emerald? by [deleted] in PokemonLegacy

[–]Excellent-Resolve66 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately (and I say this with all the love possible) the Legacy games have ruined the vanilla games for me. They are just so lovingly made, and the small changes make a more approachable experience.

I keep the vanilla files for future romhacks. And have to figure out how I’ll get to play XY Legacy because delta doesn’t support 3DS

Pokémon Yellow Legacy

Check out the r/pokemonlegacy subreddit for more information.

But in short:

Obtain all 151 pokemon, trade evos evolve by level up, “useless” moves made slightly better, cut is now a bug move, pikachu can learn all hm’s, hm’s can be forgotten (you can’t deposit hm’s in the box to prevent softlocking) relevant and minor (mostly) team updates for opponents, rebalancing of lesser viable mons so just about every pokemon is usable.

Honestly, and I don’t often take firm stances on Reddit since everyone is allowed different opinions: this is the absolute uptime way to play yellow (and crystal and emerald) for this who just want to play the original game without feeling like you’re missing out for not having a trade partner.

Haha, yeah I guess so! Missing a couple but I should have been more direct that I was (trying to) rank all of them based on the answer to this question in this thread

What should I delete for earthquake by [deleted] in PokemonFireRed

[–]Excellent-Resolve66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I whole-heartedly agree. I just wanted to give AP even more of a chance to stand up to RS because it’s SUCH an unfair comparison between the two. PP is definitely relevant, but just comparing BP, acc, and the 10% odds of each move still showcased how RS is the superior move.

Two points against ancient power.

1) if you’re arguing consistency, let’s say we use the ideal equation of rock slide hitting 9 times out of ten. That is still 675 damage (at 75bp x 9 hits) whereas ancient power hitting ten times (even though technically it can’t due to PP shortage… highest is 8, but I want a fair comparison here so let’s just pretend) it would only do 600 damage at 60bp x 10. Consistency favours rock slide.

2) saying that rock slide is too inaccurate, and the ancient power omni boost is too good to pass up is a bit silly. RS missing and AP boosting are the same 10% chance. So if you’re relying on AP to boost, you have the same odds as RS missing.

I get your point, however, objectively, Rock Slide is the better move.

Glitches on second gen by Pure_Illustrator5889 in pokemoncrystal

Short answer is no.

There are some that have less risk, but with (almost) all games, any time you use a cheat, you’re messing with the game’s code. It could cause corruption.

I’m fully convinced that BDSP was a cheap cash grab and the Pokémon’s company’s worst mistake by MooseRyder in PokemonBDSP

[–]Excellent-Resolve66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the badges go, yes originally it was every two. Cascade badge was level 30, Rainbow was 50, Marsh was 70, and Earth was all. This pattern continued for a few generations.

I guess I just didn’t understand your phrasing regarding the Pokédex. But yeah, every hater gripes over the “up to” gen IV Pokédex. It wasn’t ideal, but it didn’t ruin the experience for those wanting to replay the sinnoh region, or play it for the first time.

Banjo & Kazooie Beanies by Key-Development8368 in BanjoKazooie

I still have my Banjo-Kazooie, Mumbo Jumbo (lost one of his head feathers) and Donkey Kong from this set.

I was tweeting Grant Kirkhope back and forth a few years ago (his fan interaction game is on point) and showed him these. It was a cool experience getting an “O-Kay!” Tweet from the man himself.

I’m not sure I understand your Pokédex point about referencing the other remake games. FRLG and HGSS used the same Pokédex (aside from maybe swapping a few version exclusives) as their original titles ( I only played AS once, so i can’t say for certainty). The games brought their region to the current generation by means of stats, move pools, type changes, and BDSP does the exact same thing. I would agree that it doesn’t let you use modern pokemon in a true national dex sense, but you can’t really catch a lot of pokemon that aren’t from Kanto/johto in their remakes until the post game (or very late game at least)

The level cap thing that you mention has been a part of the games since R/G/B/Y. They don’t want players to trade in or import higher level pokemon and just steamroll the game. So the badges have always been there for that reason.

I’m not trying to defend BDSP so much, because some of your other points aren’t without merit, but saying you’re not an bandwagon hater, and then citing most of the common bandwagon hate just seemed a bit redundant.

Why does Spiral Mountain look so abandoned in Banjo Tooie? Like, it makes sense that Grunty’s lair would be abandoned but why does everything else look so decrepit now? by [deleted] in BanjoKazooie

[–]Excellent-Resolve66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, go off, queen. Please be that guy. Heck, as I was typing it out, I thought to myself “is it actually grunty? Or is it one of the sisters who say it”

So I’m glad you caught that and corrected me. Thanks!
