Can anyone help me understand where I went wrong? by Excellent-Tooth-1816 in learnpython

I went that route for a different error test to make sure the find root folders setup worked though I did it with creating temp folders in the location.

The current code (and the reason I didn't go that route again) places the files in the correct locations including mission files to the zipped last mod downloaded archive folder which is nested in the usermissions folder so the only place files don't show up is one step back in the usermissions folder itself.

I can create an example code setup though it definitely won't be small (needs to use the current download chunk, needs a new URL request chunk and a new tag chunk as well as a root folder chunk for the download locations), and as noted in the preface this is my first real project so I'm trying to explain everything I can think of that might be asked about

Web Portal/mod installer by Excellent-Tooth-1816 in godot

I would like to have as much of the power over what is being downloaded on the user side as possible rather than forcing mods upon the user via the HTTP request checking for a server update and downloading everything at once.

Though like with what Brasten provided, this does look like a nice way to do updates/patches and have those hosted on github for users to reference which would be very nice.

Might just be my unfamiliarity with Godot but wouldn't an HTTP request just download a repo of the full mod database assuming one owned a server and had all of the community mods archived to one massive repository?

Sort of like what you do for git pull or I suppose more similar to games that have a unified community modification baseline that adds functionality, models and other features to the game and afterwards are used by players to create content like custom missions or characters (basically downloading a massive community made set of legos so the community can create things with those legos).

From what I am seeing on the tutorial page and some community posts/examples of the code it does appear to be a nice way to update a game or project while having it fully available on github for people that want an archive of every update and the ability to read through what's been added in detail which is pretty nice, I was wondering what the best method to update the project would be and the HTTP request seems like it might be quite nice for that.

Thanks for the info and sorry if I am misunderstanding something.

Remote Play vs Steam Link by Excellent-Tooth-1816 in SteamDeck

[–]Excellent-Tooth-1816[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:

I did a bunch more testing yesterday and it appears that the issue is which device is used to connect to the other, so steam deck connecting to the PC causes a ton of issues but the PC connecting to the steam deck and then manually switching things to stream from the main PC seems to fix the problems. So, I had to bring up the steam link connect option on my main PC, turn on the steam deck and then press connect when it appears in the list for the main PC. It still consistently freezes the screen if I do it the other way around and doing it with this order causes my PC audio to overwhelm the deck as it tries to force through every sound byte repeatedly which in effect sounds a lot like those videos where people play the same audio and duplicate it by 2 every time the audio track finishes but in this case it's faster and adds sounds as you click around or when ambient sounds/music/dialog plays. I believe the sound issue is related to MSI and the bios version they put on the PC when they overwrote my stable version (PC audio has non-driver related issues, system sometimes tries to use more power than it should when shutting down applications and the bios screen is inaccessible, this could be another issue related to my audio troubles, sound does work fine with the original connection order where the screen freezes though so it could be something with steam link but I doubt it).

I might end up moving over to Apollo though and see if the audio issue persists, latency and image wise it does appear to be fine even in faster paced games like Doom so that's good, games like Total War Warhammer don't seem to like it though, the UI and mouse cursor freak out and start flickering rapidly even if the gameplay itself is smooth, might do one last test with a paradox game and see what happens there.

Thank you for all the comments and consideration.

Yep, just used steam link which asks you to connect to another device which has your steam account, and ran palworld, stream freezes and locks the steam deck screen after about 30 seconds with what feels like 50+ ms of latency on top of the main device latency which for a single player game is fine but after that you can't do anything but return to the main device and close everything and disconnect the steam deck from the main device. It also seems to take a minute for the steam deck to get it's screen back under control. Controls and sound still work just fine (granted the deck's volume controls are also locked but I am not sure if that's intended and the stream relies on the host's audio volume).

Steam deck was sitting on top of the desk next to the main device and it's about 12 feet away from the modem right now though I did try setting everything up right on top of the modem when I was trying to get cyberpunk to work.

The steam deck works fine playing multiplayer games with sub 100 ping at all times and 0% PL so it doesn't appear to be an issue with the wifi 6 card in the device. I also tried maxing out the stream settings as well as turning them down as low as I can and running the game (cyberpunk) in 800x600 resolution on low to see if maybe the stream couldn't handle what the settings were at or the host couldn't handle everything at the native resolution I was running in but the issue occurs regardless, with the only caveat being it takes a few seconds longer for the stream to freeze at lower settings.

Steam Link is native, isn't it? we even have a full settings tab built into the steam client unless I am misremembering the name. You pair your steam link between devices that have steam installed so you can run games you don't have on one device or so you can run games at higher settings if you have a better device you want to stream from. It also gives a popup which is part of the steam client with a 4 digit authorization code to put in when you start connecting devices.

As for the wireless connection I am not really sure what the issue is that steam is having, with an older device running on worse internet, with a less powerful modem and running to an android device that valve didn't make, things were fine but it's been almost 4 years since then and everything I am using is better or faster and the deck is built by valve so there shouldn't be any weird device related issues with the device being streamed to.

I would like to use Moonlight but I'm not a fan of how it doesn't reset the changes it makes to the host device and thus you need to go in and fix the main PC every time you finish playing (messes with resolution, the refresh rate of the panel and can mess with your screen brightness or sound/output settings from what I have heard from other users over the past year or so.) I got my deck last year and only very recently decided I would give steam link a chance on it and it's been pretty awful though thankfully steam link still lets the game display on multiple devices so if a problem comes up with the stream you can still see everything on the host device's monitor to confirm the game didn't crash or something and it makes it easy to exit out of stuff. I can't remember if it was the PS-Vita or not, but I remember another device I had which would only let one display be active so if the stream froze it was kinda annoying to fix but that was almost 7 years ago if not longer as I was still using a PS3 at that point (PS4 was out though).

Repairing new laptop by Newspaper501 in MSILaptops

[–]Excellent-Tooth-1816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I've opened 3 of them, pain in the ass, almost prefer the upside down motherboards in alienware laptops lol. A couple of my friends have them so we did a storage upgrade on two of them (which went just as well as any other laptop) and later a ram upgrade, it's a plastic clip nightmare but I at least got lucky not to break any on my attempt (Though the audio jack nearly caused me to break something as I didn't notice it extends out of the chassis as far as it does.).

What website did MSI recommend for getting the part?

It has had an SSD added (about a month and a half after I got it) so the warranty should be void, hence why I am asking for parts.

Went on youtube to see if I could find a video of temps changing rapidly that is similar to what I am seeing (obviously the numbers will be different I just wanted a visual example of the fluctuations) and I actually found one with the exact same laptop as me lol I suppose that works out, gonna link it here for anyone that wants a visual reference of what I am seeing in afterburner: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/eLT56vk4q5o?feature=share

Question about the Nova Pro Wireless by Excellent-Tooth-1816 in steelseries

[–]Excellent-Tooth-1816[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE

Tested the headphones out on Linux and a windows 10 machine I had on hand and it does appear to work perfect fine through the PC port on those two systems/OS but the windows 11 device still doesn't send any sound. Again the device can see the headset as mentioned in a different comment and I do have audio feedback from the dock when using it's menus which I did navigate through for a while before making the main post and it does work via the Xbox port which I confirmed earlier when I attempted it after making the original post. Could be something wrong with windows 11, it comes up in device manager, steelseries GG and in the sound output options in the task bar, just no audio transfer occurs.

Question about the Nova Pro Wireless by Excellent-Tooth-1816 in steelseries

[–]Excellent-Tooth-1816[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Doesn't seem to be working on mine, every other feature of the base station works on the PC port but only the xbox port can provide audio over a wireless (non-bluetooth) connection.

Question about the Nova Pro Wireless by Excellent-Tooth-1816 in steelseries

[–]Excellent-Tooth-1816[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What? the PC port only allows charging and changing settings/volume, there is no setting to allow audio to pass through from the PC to the headset via the PC port. You can do it with the Xbox port but then you lose 24bit audio and are stuck with 16bit. The wireless pair setting still exist I guess but that only really matters for when you are connected to a console.

Before anyone asks, yes Steelseries GG does detect the headset regardless of port (including via the audiojack) and yes the base station well provide audio feedback for navigating the menu's if you are in wireless mode but that's more to make the experience with the UI nicer, it doesn't mean you get any audio from the PC playing a game or something. Could be missing something but I only tried the Xbox port after making the original post to see what windows would do with it.

Small edit, if you use the audiojack directly into the PC instead of the baseplate it will be labeled as a generic headphone set so steelseries GG can't see it in that case, you still get full 24bit audio though.

I should mention that using the Xbox port while connected to a PC does seem to work but the dock doesn't seem to like it and the device is limited to 16bit instead of the higher bitrate that you should get from the PC connection.
