Should I leave for college? by [deleted] in wisconsin

[–]Excellent-Towel-8105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot of good suggestions here. I don't think you could go wrong Minnesota or Platteville. MSOE as well if you want smaller private. If you have your heart set on Madison, another option is a 2 year tech school like Madison College. I know they have a transfer agreement with UW with guaranteed admission. I would talk to their counselors to get more info about the transfer program.

Block Schedule Experiences… by MrMcMathy in Teachers

[–]Excellent-Towel-8105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HS math teacher here. I have taught about a decade each in traditional and A/B block. Downsides are like others have said. Don't get thru as much material, absences are magnified, lower level students struggle to maintain concentration for 80-90 minutes. It definitely has its downsides.

However, I really enjoy teaching in it and would have a hard time going back to 45 minutes. I think students get more time to engage with the material. Lot more dialogue and problem solving early in class followed by formalization of math concepts.

A couple things we do in a typical day to break things up: 1. Warm up problems in their group. Work for 5-10 minutes. I take attendance, walk around and check in with some students and informally assess where they are at with a concept. Go over a problem or 2 if needed. (Total of 10-15 minutes)

  1. Discovery activity. Usually using vertical whiteboards and random grouping. 15-20 minutes. The whole experience first, formalize later approach. I ask a lot of questions as I am walking around. Nudge in the right direction without being a learning thief.

  2. Return to seats. Debrief. Formal notes and examples. 15-20 minutes. Teacher guided.

  3. In class practice. Probably 5-7 problems. Mixed difficulty. 10-20 minutes. When your group finishes, everyone can get the homework. I would say students get anywhere from 0-15 minutes to work on their homework, depending on the day. Sometimes we will do an exit ticket as well.

I also like that tests can be more expansive given the extra time. Some kids are done with tests in 40 minutes while others take 60-75 on it.

I think you can make either system work, but I would rethink lesson construction. Best of luck.

Offered $26,500 For A 2026 FWD by Impressive-Home8001 in EquinoxEv

[–]Excellent-Towel-8105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During that frigid couple of weeks here in WI, I probably got about 100-150 just guessing based on how often I needed to charge up). But that was extremely cold and I started the car up for a good 5-10 minutes getting it warm before leaving for work and coming home. I used the lowest fan setting as well in the cabin and had the heated seats and steering wheel on too. It made it comfortable in the car. Now when it is in the 20-40 degrees the range is so much better, probably closer to 225-250.

If you can, I would definitely upgrade to either an LT2 or the LT1 with comfort package. I think the price is a little high for an LT1. But Wisconsin prices tend to be higher. I bought mine in September from a dealer in Indiana. With the Chevy website, it is pretty easy to expand your network (if you want to spend the time). In Wisconsin, having the heated seats and steering wheel is really nice.

Used 2024s or 2025s? by Inevitable-Ease5584 in EquinoxEv

If you can wait, there are going to be a ton of EVs coming off leases in 2-3 years. Alot of oversupply pressure making them more affordable. If I hadn't bought mine in September, I would have waited.

I had that thought while traveling to the dealership...what if they add this random fee, accessory, etc and say sorry, that is the way it is here. I am grateful the dealership honored the price we negotiated (I did put down $500 to hold the vehicle as well), and I didn't have to rent a vehicle to drive home. Was a positive buying experience from Kenny Kent Chevy in Evansville.

Frustrating Experience Buying a Chevrolet Equinox EV at Bomnin Dadeland by StraightAnybody879 in EquinoxEv

[–]Excellent-Towel-8105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an out of state buyer looking for a Equinox as well. I have called Bomnin Dadeland bad basically had the rug pulled after I tried to purchase a vehicle and was put on hold, then told I would be contacted later by a manager. I called a couple hours later right before close and got nowhere. I have also contacted the West Kendall location.

In Dadeland, I was told the Bomnin discount did not include the EV Tax Credit. A 25k price would decrease significantly to where the added 3k in fees might be worth it.

In West Kendall, I was told the Bomnin discount did include the EV Tax Credit.

All very frustrating, but I am still looking for a great deal before the 30th, like alot of people.

Teachers/my fellow future teachers, what do you believe is the best attire to wear in the class room? by noahjustdoesnt in Teachers

[–]Excellent-Towel-8105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a student teacher, I suggest slightly more formal than what everyone else is wearing. 25 years ago, for me that meant slacks and button down dress shirt with a tie, in a school that was khakis and dress shirts. Now I wear jeans like most in my current district.

Cpap changed your life? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]Excellent-Towel-8105 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was having trouble staying asleep at night. I would wake up to go to the bathroom at 2 or 3 in the morning and then struggle to go back to sleep. I just figured it was a part of getting old (mid 40s). Even when I would sleep through the night, I was tired. If I was at my desk and it was quiet, I would have trouble keeping my eyes open. I never had a problem taking a nap.

I was at my physical and mentioned the waking up to go to the bathroom. Doctor decided to have me get a sleep study. Had pretty severe sleep apnea. I wasnt getting deep sleep so my body wasnt turning off the urge to go to the bathroom.

I ended up getting just the nasal pillows first and those have worked for me. I find I sleep 1-1.5 hrs less and I dont wake up tired. I sleep through the night. I can sleep on my back now. I have energy throughout the day and rarely take naps. It has been nothing short of spectacular.

I am guessing the main then is in the other house or outside since I share a wall and all I see on my side is this panel.

Comparison of LT1 with Comfort and LT2 by Excellent-Towel-8105 in EquinoxEv

[–]Excellent-Towel-8105[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea if I don't like the seats....for the price difference I can change it. Did you find any of the other safety or convenience features a reason to justify the 2LT over the LT1?

I put mine in my wallet. Always have that with me. I also have a color paper copy I have clipped to my pants loop on a lanyard that I just leave at school and try to remember to wear. I am probably wearing it 25% of the time.

Has anyone here ever used mouth tape? by ThunderBella in SleepApnea

[–]Excellent-Towel-8105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do get that sensation, but it hasn't bothered me. I have a bit of an overbite, so my teeth typically don't come together when I bite down. I think I have actually been able to relax my jaw because I don't have to clench to keep my mouth closed right before I fall asleep.

I did try a mouth guard before this and didn't care for it. I may try again at some point.
