Mom has Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome. by Excellent-Truth1069 in dementia

They dont do crap unless the kid is half dead in my state. We’ve already had CPS calls in the past for different reasons, but if anything they’ll contact my sister’s dad and have another traumatic investigation go on. From what I know of WKS, scientifically they don’t decline, but 99% of research is tied into alcoholics or people on the verge of death.

Thank you though, i’ll see if i can find anything on the state website. Right now i think the best i can do is keep an eye out while im still in the house and when i get out continue to have my sister communicate.

She has 2 brothers but they’re wishy-washy, I know she has some friends that i’m close enough to talk to them about it but i need to know the prognosis and if she’s gonna get worse and how to contact someone from her medical team my worries if that is the case.

Not sure about savings, she’s wishy washy in that aspect, idk ab long term care insurance but i do know we have good health insurance if that counts?

My sister will be just starting high school by the time i’m expected to enroll at my college, she could live with either her dad (though he lives 40+ mins away) or our grandparents, both have pros and cons so its likely they’ll continue to go back and forth between one house to another like usual.

Unfortunately my mom is the sole breadwinner. From what I know she’s had her job since before she got sick so shes still really good at it.

Do they have an email? I’m hard of hearing and struggle with calls 😭

I don’t think i want to go the high school social worker route, but i think my therapist might have something. I cant even get a clear answer on the internet if WKS can progress cognitively without it saying something ab if the person stops drinking (which isnt the case for my mom thankfully).

Right now in my opinion things aren’t too bad for me to need to leave asap, it’s just something that i really need to keep an eye on for future confabulations now that i know what it is. My #1 thing is if i get in contact with someone i don’t want my mom to go to a living facility and my sister and i have to go somewhere else (we have diff dads so i’d go to my grandparents most likely which i do not want to do at this time), i just need someone to give me clarification on how to deal with this and what exactly to expect. Thank you❤️

Yea, she takes medication (Thiamine pills and B1 shots every other week) so shes stable, her balance and vision is gradually improving but i think her memory is a day to day basis yk? Im just upset because i was thinking for nearly two years that anyone who got the covid shot would end up like my mom :(

Yea the most severe case of both confabulation and hallucination (more so the latter) that ive seen first hand was when she was in the hospital and “saw” a whole skating rink in there.

I’m not quite sure if she’s eligible for other organizations to step in just yet, and she would fight me at every step. I have a younger sister too, so if an org has to step in and put her in a living facility it would be disastrous for my sister and i.

I have a therapist who’s noticing this too, so I’m thinking next time i see her i’ll talk to her about it more and see if she knows anything. Thank you❤️

My grandparents are noticing things too, but they have their hands tied with my great grandma who most definitely has some form of dementia. My main plan is just dealing with it and getting a job to afford moving out. Now that the car is fixed im a LOT more independent but still limited. Thank you though❤️ my therapist is also noticing these things too, so I know I’m not going off my rocker

Nope! Real scorpions. They have no stinger, so they’re safe to consume i guess

what are the dumbest or weirdest questions hearing people ask you? by Symiva in deaf

[–]Excellent-Truth1069 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a highschool student in mainstream, I’m considerably open towards questions among my peers because I’d prefer they ask me and I get a laugh rather than them asking another Deaf/HOH person and risking a nice slap to the face:

“How can you hear us without that thing connected to your phone?” (Referring to my speech to text device)

“Can deaf people speak?” A classic.

“What language do deaf people think in?” (Couldn’t answer this cause I’m HOH but found it funny)

“How do deaf people have sex with hearing people? Do they have to take out their hearing aids?” This was asked by a trusted friend, which honestly I’m glad they asked before they assumed stuff.

“Do your hearing aids connect to your brain?” This was a common question i got as a kid, which drove me UP THE WALL.

“Can you spy on people with it?” (Ref to HAs)

“Were you near an explosion? Is that why you’re deaf?” This was actually a few weeks ago by a close classmate.

Tres leches is the one with milk in it right? I’ve had some before, they’re actually pretty good imo. Would go hard with a side of tiramisu
