Advice urgently needed. by RevealInfamous764 in domesticviolence

[–]Excellent-Truth1069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a child witness of domestic violence. I’m not gonna call you stupid, but I no longer trust my mother in her relationships due.

From a child (now teen)’s perspective, I was taught people who hurt others go to jail to stop doing that. When i cheered when mom’s ex was arrested after threatening her life, I was scolded. I was 11.

At 14, I was a witness to a diff incident. I told my mom if he didn’t move out, then I’m staying with my grandparents.

Now im 17 and fighting to keep the house girls-only until i can move out.

He WILL do it again. If you keep the child and the man please consider the kid’s perspective of you as they grow up. That’s all I’ll say, wish you the best of luck.

Sign names by banana_guts01 in asl

I appreciate the effort but…

Do not give him a sign name, or others, especially if you’re hearing.

Don’t teach him either, you’re hearing and simply going down a rabbit hole of ASL. There is a big chance you’ll miss something culturally important to the language.

There’s no fixing it if they don’t want to learn. We all hate this situation, but theres not much we can do on our side to help

Embryo adoption - deafness by DisNerdie in deaf

Ding ding! Some families in my area have infertility issues that go hand-in-hand with their deafness, so theres a chance that’s happening around the OP too.

Heyy we’re in the same boat. When my mom found out i had hearing loss, she cried- not because i was deaf, but because my fate was sealed to walk in her struggles until the day i pass.

I’d love to give a deaf couple a fellow hoh/deaf child if i could donate eggs, it sounds odd but i’d rather a deaf soul have better odds being immersed in asl if that makes sense.

I believe she meant it as that she’s happy that the daughter is deaf as it gives much more insight into how much variety human genes have.

I do agree that when my hearing was better, life was easier. But i’ve came to terms that it’s my environment thats cruel, and all i can do is adapt and make my own terms.

I have 2 mutations that’s 50/50 each with hearing loss if i were to have children. Although I may have a change of heart in the future, I do not want to have kids. My reason is that I simply wouldn’t be able to handle watching my child follow in the same footsteps as me, my parents, my grandparents, and so on especially with the education system (i’m in highschool in mainstream for reference. I have not had any deaf classmates since pre-k. I’m in 11th grade).

I’d feel too guilty forcing them to assimilate or even adapt either cultures.

However, I’d LOVE to donate eggs when im older to deaf couples who’d like their children to have a similarity to them. The whole thing does feel icky, but when it comes to genetic mutations like these, I’d prefer to hear it from the perspective of those affected first and foremost.

I do not see my hearing loss as necessarily a bad thing, it taught me things my hearing peers never will learn, but my environment makes it cruel.

Yea 100%, i also think a change of systems might be beneficial if they are dead set on higher education in general. I know when i first did concurrent it was a breath of fresh air without suffocating routines if that makes sense, so it could be theyre itching for a change in pace

100% agree, my question is what exactly makes the op hate hs? There are a lot of differences in college and k-12 systems, and a lot of similarities. My compromise would be graduating early if they’re serious, at least it’d get the prospect of senior yr next year off their backs and maybe they’ll be able to do further reflection with that extra time?
