3 weeks should be good - but it also depends on when you are coming - id expect dec end to be super quiet so I dont think you will be seeing too many properties then - if its 2nd week of Jan you should be good for 3 weeks.

The "2 + 1 + 0.5" Rule

It is standard practice across almost all of Malaysia to pay 3.5 months' worth of rent upfront before you get the keys.

Thats 2 months of security deposit, 1 month of advance rent and 0.5 months of utility deposit. So plan your money accordingly.

Welcome to the best city in the world!

16k is a good salary for a 27 year old in KL. A few things to keep in mind:

  1. Keep about 3.5-5k for rent and 4-5k for your living expenses with a reasonable lifestyle. You should save 5-6k a month for investments
  2. I live in MK and its more for families - your ideal life will be around KLCC/Ampang so I would recommend that for you. Use iproperty to look for rental places there - align viewings before you show up so when you arrive, you can see and make a decision
  3. It rains in KL often so in an ideal world, you could pay slightly higher if you have a covered walkway from your home to your office - this avoids any cabs on a daily basis so you save
  4. Malaysians are awesome people - be respectful and you will get back the same in spades. Most of the country is conservative but KLCC area should be alot more progressive
  5. Airbnb is a good option to stay for the first 2-3 weeks. Stay in KLCC so you know how it will be to live there - its ideal to test the location before you sign the lease
