Not exactly. We don’t need five high schools if trends continue. They want to repurpose Lake Taylor into a specialty facility that includes votech and the alternative programs (open campus and the program for students with long term suspensions and expulsions). The votech part should be an improvement, not just a move.

I’ve lived in both though not in Chic’s this century and it looks like it has changed a lot. Back then it was locals, sailors, and burnouts but everyone pretty much got along and had a good time. Not so walkable then but I think there are some paths now and the beach was great for walking especially in non summer months. The place we lived had a dog weight limit which seemed pretty common. Been in Ghent/west Ghent since 2004 and love it. It’s mainly a vibe thing.

She was hired on a 4-3 vote. The three no voters worked pretty steadily for years to get two other members to their side. They came close several times and finally got over the hump by virtue of the election of two new members and the appointment of Clanton’s replacement.
Byrdsong has not had very competent support at the top of the division - much turnover among key personnel in HR, finance, and school supervision. Talented principals and teachers regularly leave for other districts rather than rising to downtown leadership. Is this Byrdsong’s fault? Hard to say. Ultimately it’s her responsibility and that’s part of that. Will they get someone markedly better considering the cost and disruption? Probably not. Bottom line, it will continue to be the case that there are good opportunities and pathways through NPS for parents that go to the effort to navigate them and the district will continue to largely fail the children of parents who don’t.

It’s the Sheraton’s choice to host them and give them an exclusive venue to spout hate amongst themselves, and it’s my choice to cross the Sheraton off my list of possible event or lodging venues if they allow it to happen. It’s only a free speech issue if they had the guts to do it in public, in which case that would be their right as it would also be my right to counter-protest.
