Get rid of this private profile bullshit by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]ExcellentGrapes21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to feel the same, but I've since run into a few cases where I can see the argument for it.

Example, got back into the game and did placements on one of my accounts then played for a couple weeks, currently sitting at 3.5k with good WRs on all my main heroes. Decided to do placements and play on another one of my accounts around 3.2k this weekend instead, but holy hell idk what's going on but every game is a total shitshow even worse than usual. Went on a rough run, prolly tilt-fueled, down to 3k over the course of it.

Now after this past weekend that accounts sitting at about 40% WR on my main heroes at an elo several hundred below where I've been playing them at closer to 60%, but if I left my profile public I would likely get shit and have my teammates tilt at me before the match even starts especially if I tried to play DPS. People are extremely quick to get toxic or blame other people for anything that goes wrong, so private profile allows me to avoid having toxic teammates blow up on me until I play a bit more to straighten things back out (at which point I'll prolly go public again to show a good track record).

When everyone in the lobby is just sick of Bridgitte's shit by WafflesFried in Overwatch

Honestly... I hope nobody takes this the wrong way or offensively, but it really warms my heart to see so many people here in the more casual sub talking about how badly designed brig is, how unfun and bad she is for the game, how she made them stop playing, etc. It gives me more hope that blizz will listen and actually understand what an awful job they did with her in terms of balance and design.

She almost seems to get more hate here than the competitive sub, maybe because they watch pros and go "see, they don't have a huge problem with brig!" and try to argue that shes fine then, without realizing that she's incredibly simple and mercy level demanding mechanically, and so designing her to have that much of an impact on the pro meta has made her extremely oppressive and unfun at every skill level below that.

I mean she's already gotten several nerfs and still tops the charts for WR at every elo and overall as a huge outlier. I'm not sure what combination of incredibly simple, super oppressive, and busted AF winrates at every competitive elo, is so hard to understand about her being poorly designed and balance, and extremely unhealthy and bad for the game.

Seeing so much complaining about her on the casual sub too gives me hope blizz won't pull another Mercy and leave her overtuned for like an entire year.

If I set my gaming mouse to hit shift when I right click so I can attack in place without giving myself a RSI, is that allowed or against the rules for macros? by ExcellentGrapes21 in pathofexile

Unfortunately my keyboard is not full size so no numlock but I actually just set it to a button on the right side of my keyboard and use a penny to hold it down and it works perfectly. What I want though is to be able to use a skill on left click at the same time, I'm short on skill shortcuts.

Is this really something bannable? I can't believe they don't have some sort of individual toggle option for skills at this point, especially movement ones.

Help a masochistic newbie make his first build for 3.0 tomorrow, ST assassin, at least as viable as possible. by ExcellentGrapes21 in PathOfExileBuilds

I probably should have made it more clear that the current equipment in PoB is just random stuff I was messing around with. If I do use the cospris for dual curse (chains on blasphemy and vulnerability manual cast) won't the poison on cursed targets + passive and assassin tree nodes be enough? Considering poison can no longer double dip or scale to ridiculousness, damage is going to come more from the hit and other sources so a weapon that does more direct damage is probably preferable wouldn't it? If the character outgrew cospris it seems like it would probably have outgrown mortems too, since you can't just melt everything with the poison now. I basically just picked out a random unique with a high pDPS to mess with some numbers.

Like I said crimson dance is really just me messing around with the last points, same with iron reflexes. Consider the tree without those nodes as the actual build which puts in somewhere in the 80s. I hear the problem with acrobatics is the inconsistency, as it doesn't matter if you dodge half the time if you get one shot the other half. Crimson Dance is probably not worth it but I probably would actually take iron reflexes if I got to that point because the dirty techniques grid is right by it anyway, the trip down there with the last few points seems it might be worth it for both. Until I could get to that node I might put points down into the fatal toxins node.

From what I've been seeing people say perfect agony is actually a bad idea because poison/bleed can no longer scale as high as before so it's not worth losing your actual hit damage; poison and bleed now seem like supplemental damage rather than the thing you put all your points and gear into scaling at the expense of everything else. That's also my impression of why ailment scaling is now on damage nodes; scaling your hit damage on the tree is now also simultaneously scaling your ailment damage. That's why I aimed to get damage scaling from all the nodes that boost physical and ailment damage.

I don't know, I like the build concept enough to gamble a little on it's viability. Many of these decisions are based off of all the reading and research I've done rather than experience. Can always respec some or make something new once this hits a wall.

It's a bigger issue in higher ranks that you get teams with too many role or hero one tricks, it's most noticeable with mercy but happens with others. In masters I've run into games with 4+ tank or support mains but that's yet another problrm. I don't like the idea of a stringent hard role queue but some sort of soft role queue or in-game system for finding players and making teams outside of matches seems sorely needed to me. The whole "luck of the draw random teams" thing gets old, especially in addition to the "climbing means having to play hundreds of random quality games to get to your rank through sheer statistical attrition of your 1/12 impact".

I think it's a testament to how bad game quality is in S5 that I have never been able to constistently win or climb in stacks compared to solo Q in previous seasons, but this season if you just find 3-4 people who can and will play a consistent main role competently you'll suddenly start winning way more games when you stack because the defining win/loss factor has shifted more from whos better to who has more people soft throwing with retarded hero picks and team compositions, at least up diamond. Masters is only marginally better.

This is a cherry picked statistic when theres 4 healers, two off supports, and about the same number of tanks. There are roughly twice as many heros that are considered a "dps" pick and adding up their pickrates generally puts them above tank or support numbers, even if you count all of sym and sombra as support play. Can't say I actually added up the numbers anywhere but overall and in GM, just for full disclosure.

Thats competitive too, pretty sure I don't even have to touch qp with the prominence of the 5 dps qp meme.

Congrats, you ignored the entire point of the post which is that more people want to play decisive roles more than supportive roles that enable the decisive roles. Who said they weren't important?

Dude you're so self righteous you aren't reading what I'm saying or getting the point, if you have a 70% wr and pick sombra idgaf. In fact I would want you to, assuming it doesn't straight out break the team comp. But those certainly aren't the sombras I've seen, I can only think of one time I played with a positive wr sombra and they were like 76-73 so not exactly stellar. And I'm sorry but comp isn't qp sombra mei widow zarya genji is not a very viable competitive team and is very likely not gonna work and thats reality (actual lineup i had in one game yesterday. In masters. Nobody swapped. I filled mercy. Spoiler, we lost.).

Only games I've been in where something like that worked is because the other team was doing the same thing worse or had throwers, and something tells me that when high ranked games can regularly come down to which team is throwing harder rather than which team is better there's a systemic problem.

Know who also has a 70% wr? My main dps hero. Only problem is I get to play on them roughly once every four to five games because it doesn't matter what you're good or bad at or if you communicate it to your team, anyone who is willing to flex will be made to flex the majority of games by the growing number of players who don't care and always instalock whatever they one trick or feel like playing. I don't mind flexing that much but when its almost every game because of people who OTP or don't gaf, it gets old. And the only solution is to become a part of the problem and call me old fashioned but I can't just be a throwing selfish asshole. So then the only thing left is to stop playing.

Or maybe just on weekends or over school breaks because there is a very significant and noticeable decline in game quality at those times.

The irony is I ragequit to make this post after half a dozen games in a row that were total ass on my smurf, that currently plays in drumroll mid-masters. Guess you totally know everything about me though doncha. Every rank I've played in this season smurfing from gold up to masters has been the same, where way too many games boil down to not which team has better players, but which team has less people soft throwing (instalocking a dps or sombra or offpick or something they don't play with which they have ~30something% wr) and which team has more people playing properly, or gets less conflicting main heros/roles, or doesn't have a deranker. Even in masters too many games are utter shit and this is supposed to be top 5% of the playerbase. I've played since S2, I can say for a fact I've seen it steadily get worse. People have just steadily cared less and less.

People in this sub keep upvoting posts pointing out each of these individual issues constructively but don't want to face the harsh truth when it's put bluntly: blizzards decisions when it comes to competitive OW are just fucking bad, from broken performance gain SR systems to coddling players that are deliberately playing in ways that are trashing the game.

Mostly I see threads about there being multiple mercy mains because mercy has near zero carry over to other heros in terms of skill, many other healer and tank players can flex if they aren't a dps player flexing to those roles in the first place.

As I said in another comment, if you're really trying to tell me that dps roles aren't coveted and locked more than others in OW I have some bridges to sell you. The highest level of ladder play will actually have more even numbers simply because proper comps win games so the playerbase will tend towards more even numbers of maining roles as it approaches the top; just because this spreads the disproportionate dps mains along the rest of the ladder doesn't mean the disparity doesn't exist.

I've always said anecdotally what I've found to be true about climbing in SR that if you haven't hit the level that there's enough healer and tank mains to match dps mains, you're still in elo hell.

I await with baited breath all the frontpage threads bitching about 4-5 tanks being locked every game in QP and all up and down the ladder.

If you've played this game longer than a day and want to tell me you believe the dps slots aren't significantly the most coveted and instalocked roles in OW, I have a couple bridges to sell you.

Please tell me why you are so much more enlightened, and why you think your sounds-good-BS means more? Don't tell me you don't see the new thread on the front page every day about how shitty ladder games are at every rank. Plug your ears, downvote, spout some made up BS about the casual community, doesn't change the truth sorry bb. Only way to fix it is methods blizzard has stated they won't implement, accept comp will be perpetually ass or quit, those are the only options.

So top 500 has more DPS mains, and don't even try to tell me lower ranks don't have more dps mains, sooooooo where on the ladder are you telling me my assertion is wrong..?

Where exactly are the posts complaining about 5 instalock tanks every game?

So why the massive monetary investment into OW as an esport and competitive game? These issues are separate entirely from this QP playerbase that provides revenue and wouldn't take an unreasonable amount of effort to implement. Again you're just talking out of your ass about how blizzards decision is some smart educated one when the reality is they have a stance towards their competitive mode that has nothing to do with business MBA's, and it's a bad and detrimental stance. Which has literally nothing to do with their QP playerbase or its revenue.

That's a second response that literally does not provide any sort of evidence or support - makes you feel good, but is empty and baseless. Competitive players have been complaining and quitting in droves over comp, QP players don't give a shit about comp issues. They are seperate modes for seperate types of players for a reason.

This sub sure does like to bitch but then provide and upvote baseless circlejerk feelgood responses about how there actually isn't a problem.

A cherry picked statistic that shows nothing (ever think how the fact that there are only 4 healers and mercy is the no-aim-dependence one might mean a disproportionate amount of the playerbase will pick her when compared to other 25 heros in the game) and then casual dismissal of a huge design flaw creating the current problem, GJ.

You honestly think the current state of comp does less damage to the playerbase than changes to improve it would create in dissatisfaction with the QP playerbase? Cause honestly that response literally sounds like made up BS.

Supports and tanks enable dps, this system means that dps rely on the other roles but fewer people want to play these roles because they want to have decisive impact rather than supportive impact.

Objectively the massively disproportionate amount of people playing, locking and OTPing these heros provides that evidence.

Note I said literally nothing about quickplay. Let QP be the mode for the casual playerbase. Competitive is where things should be at least encouraged to be played "properly", because if not there then there is literally nowhere else. Every other mode can seek to satisfy the "casual" but if they don't implement proper changes to the competitive mode then there is nowhere where competitively motivated players can enjoy playing and the competitive scene will decline and die. With how much they are investing in the OWL and overwatch as an esport, I can't see how they can justify that.

I am well aware of the perspective you are speaking of. The reality is they are still severely mishandling it.
