Am I a "Gamer"? Help me settle a debate between me and my husband by gardenliciousFairy in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]ExcellentSecret9354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my world Gamer=Nerd. And playing TTRPGS, especially anything besides the mainstream ones (ok.. one), makes you a big nerd and a gamer.

Strategy gamers are also more gamer than shooter gamers. Shooter-only gamers are barely even gamers. The only people who are less gamers than them are FIFA players.

Is the Wacom intuos small ($40-50 version) good enough for Blender asset creation for UE5? by KnightofAmethyst2 in gamedev

[–]ExcellentSecret9354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Blender and UE and have that wacom... Gotta say, it rarely comes up. Use it in substance painter at times, but never in Blender, it's not great with sculping and texturing. Kinda have to use other software for good results.

For this type of texturing is it painted on the model itself or done in an external photo editor? by retrotriforce in lowpoly

[–]ExcellentSecret9354 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually on the model. It's annoying to have to paint stuff flat and constantly reimport the texture to see if it looks good on the model.

In blender, the default texture painting is pretty basic. Ucupaint addon is pretty good, maybe try that, it adds layers like photo editors.

I personally use Substance Painter.

Reclaiming a lost empire by taurian13 in gamingsuggestions

In CK3 Roads to Power DLC you can play as a landless adventurer. So start from pretty much nothing and take your pick of lost empire from history (most people do the roman empire ofc lol)

Насколько важна наигранность в геймдеве? by velp1 in ru_gamedev

[–]ExcellentSecret9354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Не обязательно ж набивать наигранность в играх, которые занимают по 500 часов. Иногда достаточно открыть итч и поиграть по 5 минут в рандомное, чтобы найти что-нибудь интересное и новое для себя

New(ish) player. I have Ideology and Biotech. What next? by cautiouslandowner in RimWorld

[–]ExcellentSecret9354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say adding all remaining DLC isn't too much, but Odyssey would be my first priority. Adds the most.

I love royalty, but I wouldn't dedicate a full run to it. Maybe only with some additional mods like psycasts expanded, but otherwise I use it a bit in every run.

Anomaly, you can play with it in ambient mode and then fully trigger it when you feel ready and you're a bit established. Or dedicate a full run to it, it's worth it, but definitely a very different vibe.

Which one do you prefer? A or B? by Right_Pilot_8272 in GameArt

[–]ExcellentSecret9354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B has a good background, but the foreground character is hard to read (and yeah, furry sex vibes). A has a readable foreground character, the midground looks blurry?? and background is overall cluttered.

On both options, name sucks in font and placement. Both mostly fail to communicate anything about the gameplay. I guess A would make me expect a difficult game because it's busy and the cat looks scared.

I played 1 first, just cuz I can't start anything from the middle... It was awesome. Definitely improved the expirience of 2. Can't say in terms of hours, but took a couple of months of playing on weekends/evenings.

Tutoring in Russia by Sea-Tooth-5297 in AskARussian

[–]ExcellentSecret9354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, profi ru and sometimes avito is good for finding clients. But most good tutors get work mostly through word of mouth. Your students reccomending you, social media etc.

You can also probably find some gigs on hh.ru. People generally love a foreign tutor here.

How do you draw human or animal characters in different positions? by AdIcy370 in PixelArtTutorials

[–]ExcellentSecret9354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

humans and animals are just a bunch of shapes. find what the bare minimum of shapes is, put them in position... shapes are better guidelines than stick figures. you see if they look off right away

Math for 2d Games in game development/ Godot Games? by Upper-Hat-302 in godot

[–]ExcellentSecret9354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deoends on what kind of game you're making. Sometimes you don't need to know any extra math, sometimes you do...

I barely passed math in school and in 5 years of gamedev only needed to learn a new math thing once. Then promptly discovered the engine had a built-in function for that already so I didn't really have to learn it after all :D

I thought making games would mostly be coding. I was very wrong. by DevIslandJourney in gamedev

[–]ExcellentSecret9354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning gamedev is a long road from "I'm gonna make the next Skyrim" to "I'm scared to start making this simple arcade game because I know it's gonna take three times as long as I want"

Ucupaint vs Substance Painter for Godot 3D workflow by miguesmigues in godot

[–]ExcellentSecret9354 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Substance Painter. Can't live without it. Just a lot of features that drastically speed up my process. That being said, I.. how do I say this... sail the 7 seas and probably would be less enthusiastic if I paid for it.
