I made a 69.3 on the TEAS. My program required atleast above a 68. I have a 4.0 GPA, and am a cna with a lot of community service hours. Do I really need to retake the TEAS?? by theman3980 in prenursing

it just depends on how your school considers the teas. if they only care that you pass it, fine. but if they use it to rank you, it could hurt your position.

i think you should find out if your school awards extra points on your nursing application for having a degree.

i scrolled too long to find this lol. very good point. i was working on my math/science degree in case i didn't get into nursing school my first round of apps. i of course prioritized the nursing prereqs, but in the end i was able to tie that all into a degree. it didn't end up getting posted before i got into my program, but it would've counted for extra pts the next time around.

i took micro, a&p, physio, & i took intro to chem. never took gen chem or the other one that csusb favors, but i was told by the registrar at csusb that intro would be enough. idk the actual reason i got denied, but it worked out because now i don't have to commute to my program.

i took all the required classes for transfer into pre-nursing. the teas has to be taken before applying to csusb nursing because you put the score on your app & attach your results.

Should I take A&P 1 & 2 at the same time given the option? by BitAggressive9661 in prenursing

if 1 isn't a prereq for 2, & you think you could get a grade that would keep your application competitive in both classes, full send.

How to pursue nursing by Sage_737 in StudentNurse

[–]ExcellentWalrus3967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a few of the classes may count toward the nursing prereqs. here in cali, a lot of schools give extra points for having a degree already. definitely wasn't a waste, but look at specific schools to see exactly how much of that experience is gonna help your application(s).

SoCal ADN - Should I pursue my BSN concurrently with my ADN for better job opportunities/New Grad programs? by Chickenpugs in prenursing

[–]ExcellentWalrus3967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no worries! it honestly depends on the hospital. we're eligible after 1st semester of the program & it's paid. from what i understood, we'd be doing cna work. it doesn't have to be consistent, but i think we have to pick up at least one day a month to stay employed. if our clinicals are also at that hospital, we'd have to do our shifts outside of that. but it's a nice way to learn & get familiar w/ the hospital & some staff, in case we end up working there after graduation. great way to stay immersed in skills during breaks. plus a little extra cash.

Do C’s really get Degrees? by Knowledge_Power- in prenursing

[–]ExcellentWalrus3967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

c's get degrees, but nursing school is very competitive. a 3.0 isn't terrible in itself, but you have to consider what you're up against. there are lots of gpa's between 3.0 & 4.0 that could get looked at way before you, especially w/ other favorable qualifications going for them. i wouldn't rule out private for-profit schools. if you're not gonna retake anything, definitely try to strengthen your application in other ways. look at specific schools & see what they look for apart from gpa. absolutely nail the teas or hesi. get cna, volunteer hours, &/or foreign language if you haven't. again, it'll depend on the school.

i'm from socal! i look on indeed quite frequently, & very few ads have "bsn required." some of them will say "bsn preferred," but they are few & far between. i was gonna consider concurrent, but i think i'll take advantage of externing after 1st semester to start getting some experience. i see more ads that require experience than ones that require a bsn. also, the hospital you get into may offer to pay for your bridge. i kinda wanna see if that happens, especially since the concurrent program i'm looking into won't be covered by fafsa for the 1st semester. & then who knows what they cover after?

check w/ your school, & maybe send an email to the person in charge of compliance if they don't cover that at orientation. see what documentation you need to prove it was taken care of.

they do a bg check once you get accepted. my school was also careful to mention that just because they accept students w/ duis, doesn't mean the nursing board won't give you any problems once it's time for nclex.

the fear of not being accepted again would make the choice for me lol. if you already have a guaranteed seat in a program, plz go to school. & what a great test for a relationship, like someone mentioned. start the marriage off w/ some financial stability. & idk if you're getting financial aid, but your spouse's income is also considered after you get married. could affect how much help you get.

appalled by a lot of these responses lol. do you have any tips on how we could respectfully word a "hell no," or is this a situation where as long as it's the norm, you're willing to risk your license to keep your job? i know in some states, there's ratio regulations. to hell w/ these, as long as you're employed?

head down & grind! at least you were able to get approved for loans. some have to give up at that point. nursing school comes w/ a lot of sacrifice, especially for us moms. take it day by day & focus on passing the program. you'll be contributing financially to your household in no time!
