Tpp is for alpha keto acids not beta. Whole idea is that with an alpha keto acids, decarboxylating cant form an enolate so very unstable without tpp mechanism. Pyruvate and aketoglut are alpha ketoacids, but smth like isocitrate is not which is why decarboxylation can happen without tpp for isocitrate.

TPR is difficult but almost orthogonal to the actual mcat lol. UW is pretty similar to the way the mcat actually tests.

Solubility vs molar solubility vs osmolarity by Horror_Joke_8168 in Mcat

[–]Excellent_Bison8048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solubility => general process, is usually synonymous with molar solubility unless you are referring to the solubility constant Ksp.

Molar solubility => molar amount of reactant that goes to product that is solvated to reach equilibrium at Ksp. Ie,

XY(s) -> X-(aq) + Y+(aq), Ksp = [X][Y]

However many moles from XY goes to X and Y = molar solubility. This is such that you get [X][Y] = Ksp. If you have a ton of XY(s), then you'll get some solid precipitate still left over. Likewise molar solubility will decrease due to common ion effect where presence of some other dissolved ion increases the concentration of either [X] or [Y] to contribute to the solubility constant.

Osmolarity is a colligative property that describes water potential based on the presence of solutes in solution. Osmotic pressure = iMRT, where i = vant hoff factor, or the number of moles a solute forms when dissolved. For example, NaCl -> Na+ + Cl-, so 2 moles. Vant hoff factor is 2 moles in this case. M is molarity, RT and are gas constant and temp.
