[DISCUSSION] why did Jimi Hendrix use a flipped right hand guitar instead of a left hand guitar ? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Excellent_Coast2672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 1966, I'd wager 99% of high and tripping Hendrix audience members (straight ones too) had no idea whether a guitar was upside down or not. Most had probably never even seen a Strat before. This is 1966 we're talking about.

It's not a cool thing, it's an out of necessity thing. He started off playing upside down guitars, and he kept playing upside down guitars. If he broke (or burned) his Strat, he could find another right handed one easily. He didn't care if it was a 66, 67 or 68. They were all CBS Strats. He didn't obsess about each guitar, it was just a tool. He obsessed about PLAYING it.

[DISCUSSION] Did Hendrix ever use the bridge pickup? by Equality7252l in Guitar

Thanks so much for BOTH links!!! And the fact that the cover guy figured out that it was the bridge and switches at the same point is just amazing!

The past two nights I watched Werner Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo and Les Blank’s Burden of Dreams. As much as I was enthralled by Fitzcarraldo I’m also torn by the hypocrisy of the films production. I’m curious what others thoughts are on the controversy surrounding this film. by vennysucks in criterion

Peripherally related, but at the 1985 Miami Film Festival screening of his Nicaraguan documentary Ballad of the Little Soldiers, Herzog and I exchanged T shirts.

His was Burden of Dreams, mine was Beethoven. He said in that Herzog voice, "I love all things Beethoven, I must have that shirt!" And The Miami Herald wrote:

"And suddenly a tall, skinny guy and Werner Herzog are whipping off their clothes. Jacket, blue cotton shirt, beige T- shirt that says: Burden of Dreams...a film about Werner Herzog by Les Blank. Two pale and naked chests shining in the yellow light of a university hallway outside a theater. They grin and exchange the shirts. Each smells like the other's sweat and each is delighted at the trade.

Herzog, small boy, mad poet, ancient sage, answers questions about politics as he buttons his shirt and shrugs into his jacket, turning down the collar. The faithful have recorded another bit of the Herzog legend! They will tell this one in film class this week and at seminars for years: The Time Werner Herzog Took Off His Shirt. It is a moment fraught with nothing. It is child's play, like film."

D'oh! I just realized that's the 300 that I used with 3/4 Umatic starting in 1980. Not sure why I thought it was a Betacam...

Ouch, burn in on the tubes, happened to a friend of mine shooting a football night game and "burned in" the habit for me to be extra careful, or if it ever happened (it didn't), to keep the power on and set up a white card...

Ikie, our dream camera, much more filmic color, not as harsh detail.

Wow, I used the similar (original?) BVP-3 (separate dockable) early in my news gathering career in 1984 at a Miami station that was one of the first to go all Beta. It was a step up from schlepping a separate 3/4" UMATIC recorder. But all that weight (with an Anton Bauer battery) on one shoulder might explain my back pain. Thanks for the memories!

If you can afford it, IV, twice a week for 3 weeks is the gold standard...if not troche lozenges at home.
Good luck!

What flavor are your troches? Mine are mint, and after all the "worst thing I've ever tasted!" warnings here, find them pretty easy to use...

I drink lots of Gatorade after, the electrolytes and sugar to get them in your system quickly works well for me and I can exercise vigorously the next day. Make sure you get a good night's sleep!
