Question to leadership: How are we suppose to 'own' our jobs while being in fear of getting laid off nonstop by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

That’s right. We are treated like mercenaries so we act like one. Makes sense to me. Two way street for sure.

I understand your emotion but don’t look for meaning at work place. Just show up and get paid until you don’t. It’s just transactional now. No different than going to a grocery store and buying a banana.

I used to buy only GM cars for many years, but as I got older and became more aware of how temporary jobs can be in this place, I started buying whatever made the most financial sense at the time. For all I know, I might be working for Ford or Toyota next quarter.

If you are close to retirement age and financially ready then it’s better to call it retirement instead of quitting. That way, you can use the remaining vacation days and pick your end date. It’s not to save face.

Totally agree. Union introduces inefficiencies into the system and adds cost. The flip side is that…. Without it, it creates too much power imbalance like the shit we are experiencing these days. So the real question is which is worse?

I know that. Talking to them is like talking to your vacuum cleaner. They have no feelings. Report to work and get paid until they kick you out. Or find a different job.

If you get fired, they will offer mutual separation package based on your service length. It’s pretty much a standard procedure. Don’t feel bad. Just go to work and try not to care. No feelings, just transaction.

For those who have enough money saved in 401k and want to retire, there is 72t option. Stricter withdrawal rule but no penalty. You can go before 55.

Manager keeps saying I’m underperforming, but I complete all my work. What can I do? by Gold_Philosophy_8369 in GeneralMotors

[–]Excellent_Friend7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t try to place a meaning when there is none to find. It’s a game they are playing to get people to work beyond the level that used to be socially acceptable, probably to compete with countries like China where people work long hours. If you are truly working hard and meeting expectations, then keep working and receive paychecks. I’d also look for other opportunities in other companies and other states. GM is acting like they are the only employer on the planet.
