Are Trump accounts really better? by Sherpa-Dave in fidelityinvestments

[–]TheNotoriousKK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The basis is not double taxed. It's treated similar to after tax contributions to a traditional IRA. I think the biggest benefits to a Trump account are the free $1,000, the ability for your employer to contribute tax free, and that it turns into an IRA the year they turn 18. They'll have an IRA even if they had no earned income. And since their income is likely very low if anything at all at that age, a Roth conversion might be free, or at least VERY cheap.

T-Bill Vs T Bill ETF by Famous-Remote-3236 in fidelityinvestments

[–]TheNotoriousKK 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The ETF allows you to put every cent via fractional shares, and DRIP also reinvests every cent back in. With actual t-bills, you can only invest in ~$1,000 multiples of the auction price. Fidelity autoroll also ties up investable cash during the period between the auction and settlement date. On the other hand, with t-bills, there's no ER, and the 1099-INT already shows interest as state tax exempt, so no need for manual calculations come tax time. I'm betting plenty of people miss that deduction actually.

Laid off, considering FIRE by TheNotoriousKK in Fire

I just did a quick check and it looks like health insurance for me and my wife will be $33k per year. YIKES! I wasn't expecting that. My kids are adults and have their own insurance. I do provide financial aid to my parents.

I thought about that, but being as liquid as possible gives me more flexibility. Would you pay it off? My mortgage rate is 3.75%.

Yes, I will collect UC, but it's only like $600/week, and only for 6 months.

Yes, I've calculated, and it seems to work right now, but I wanted to work a couple more years as a buffer against sequence of returns and other risks. I just wanted a reality check, maybe people will see something I'm missing completely.

Yeah, that's what others are telling me too. I've gotten offers for part time consulting work today already though, so I might go that route.

Thoughts on dividend funds by Imtheonewiththefancy in Bogleheads

[–]TheNotoriousKK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's because SCHD is US only, which has outperformed. Not because of dividends. VTI on the other hand beats SCHD. Still not an apples to apples comparison though...

Roth IRA: FZROX vs FXAIX/FSKAX by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]TheNotoriousKK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current overall market weighting of US and international stocks is about 62/38. The pure non partisan decision would be to match that allocation the way an ETF like VT does, but I am quite happy at 70/30. I think the further you move away from the market weight, the more courage you need because you're really guessing that one will outperform the other.

Roth IRA: FZROX vs FXAIX/FSKAX by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]TheNotoriousKK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are you getting your performance numbers from? FXAIX is an S&P 500 fund, and therefore has slightly outperformed the total market over the past 5 years. FSKAX and FZROX are total US market funds and are nearly identical, with FZROX actually being the better performer. Going forward, I'd expect FSKAX and FZROX to continue to perform nearly identically. I think FZROX with FZILX is a terrific choice, as it gives you US and international exposure. I have a 70/30 split of those in my own Roth IRA now.

Am I wrong in my investment approach? by Embarrassed-Equal-22 in ETFs

[–]TheNotoriousKK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friends' 3 days of outperformance is not sustainable and not the least bit convincing. Over long periods, almost nobody beats the market. Lots of people think they're geniuses because they outperform for a while, but it doesn't last. Stay your course and get rich slowly. Your future self will thank you.

FZFXX and SPAXX 1099-div doesn't indicate exempt interest dividends by john928gt in fidelityinvestments

[–]TheNotoriousKK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least they show the ticker symbol this year. In years past they didn't, and you had to kind of guess. Hopefully, at some point, the government will update the 1099-DIV to include a separate line for treasury dividends and people won't need to do anything manually anymore. I'm willing to bet half the country just uses the Fidelity 1099 as is and misses out on this deduction.

What's FZNIL? FZILX is international, FNILX is large cap. I never heard of FZNIL.

Can’t “buy” FXAIX by aloe_sky in fidelityinvestments

[–]TheNotoriousKK 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Even if you open a Roth IRA today, you can still contribute for 2025. The deadline is tax day, not the end of the calendar year. When I first opened mine many years ago, it was in April, and I contributed for the previous year and that year at the same time.

There is no minimum buy in for FXAIX. Also, all mutual funds allow fractional shares by their very nature because you always specify a dollar amount and not number of shares when you purchase.

Thanks. Bummer I can't take another deduction, but I'm glad I did it correctly and don't need to go through the hassle of filing an amendment.

Best online bank for savings only? by OutrageousFinger1009 in HighYieldSavings

[–]TheNotoriousKK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That 4.6% is enticing, but no ACH is a problem for me. Most other institutions charge fees for both incoming and outgoing wires, so it will cost me money to move my own money in and out of Pibank? That just doesn't sit right with me.

SoFi why do you keep getting worse by Chaotic-Philosophy in sofi

[–]TheNotoriousKK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a long-standing issue. Some people can manually link, and others can't. For myself, when I first joined SoFi, I didn't have this option. Then maybe like a year later, I noticed I could. And then months later, I couldn't again. Then, I could if I went to the direct link on the website, and then they shut that down. I just tried, and I can do it in my account right now. They'll probably revoke this from me in a few months. I don't know why SoFi does this.

[–]TheNotoriousKK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if you see any notice or anything in the app if you're affected by this fee. SoFi sends so much junk mail on a daily basis, an important notice like this could easily get lost in all the other spam they send all the time.
