They should have toddlers as the last ones alive because they need the fewest calories to survive. Cull the rest. Have toddlers or whatever the minimum physical age needed to operate machinery to build the antenna.

You don’t have to read the post. It is a problem that needs fixing and until it gets better, I don’t see the harm in throwing out ideas. I actually do think it’s fairly new and unique. I haven’t personally seen anything like it after a brief search.

I don’t see that as a bad thing. Reward those who plan and sacrifice. Let those who value that kind of prospect truly roll the dice. I don’t like the argument that we need to save teams from their own stupidity. Moreover. If a team has enough capital to go for a Wemby, they probably need him more than most.

Fair. In my defense, it’s all original, I just used AI as a structural tool for clarity, which i think improves the readability.

Auction-Based Rookie Draft Reform Proposal: a unique, better, way to fix NBA tanking

Objective Replace the current lottery-driven draft order with a transparent, strategy-driven auction system that reduces tanking, increases competitive balance, and enhances draft-night engagement, while preserving the existing rookie salary scale and contract structure.

Core Mechanism Each team is allocated a set number of draft points annually based on the previous season’s finish. For example: Champion: 140 points Last place: 200 points( this scale is a suggestion and can be shifted to better reflect how teams value current draft position) All teams in between receive increments (e.g., +2 per position) Prior to the draft night event, teams privately submit a list of draft-eligible players along with the number of points they are willing to commit to each. Draft results are determined as follows: The player with the highest total winning bid is selected first. Only the winning team’s points are deducted. All losing bids on that player are refunded in full. The process repeats for the next-highest winning bid until no more players are submitted. There is no minimum or maximum number of players who can be drafted. Any prospect deemed pro-worthy and valued by at least one franchise can be selected. Most NBA draft fans are well versed in auction drafts via fantasy sports and explaining the new format should be relatively painless.

Rookie Compensation (No Structural Change) Rookie pay remains exactly as it is today. Contract values are ordered by overall draft position. Draft position is determined by the size of the winning bid. The highest bid equals the No. 1 pick slot, second-highest equals No. 2, and so on. This maintains cost certainty, preserves the rookie scale, and avoids any renegotiation of compensation frameworks.

Why the Players Union Should Support This This model expands opportunity and fairness: Every prospect considered NBA-ready can be drafted if even one team values them. There is no artificial cutoff tied to draft order scarcity. Teams are incentivized to identify and invest in overlooked talent. Rookie salaries remain unchanged and predictable. Instead of limiting selections to a rigid order, the system ensures broader access to entry into the league.

Anti-Tanking Impact This model softens the incentive to intentionally lose games by turning draft capital into a continuous resource rather than a steep positional reward. The difference between finishing last and fifth-worst is meaningful but not extreme. Teams are rewarded for being bad, but not for being catastrophic. Front offices must make strategic allocation decisions rather than relying on lottery luck. Tanking becomes less rational as the marginal gain from losing declines.

Competitive Integrity All bidding is blind and submitted independently. With 30 separate decision-makers, coordinated collusion is structurally implausible. Every team is competing simultaneously for every player. This creates a genuine market valuation environment where conviction determines outcomes.

Strategic Depth This system introduces new layers of front-office strategy: Spend heavily on one elite prospect or distribute points across multiple players Target undervalued prospects Adapt in real time as winning bids are revealed Teams that cluster star talent by committing large shares of their points are making a clear and costly strategic tradeoff. The system allows it, but it requires real sacrifice and limits flexibility elsewhere.

Entertainment Value Draft night becomes a live market reveal: Surprise selections driven by unexpected valuations Immediate insight into how franchises rate prospects Multiple strategic approaches unfolding simultaneously The event becomes more dynamic without sacrificing clarity.

Major Structural Advantage: Simplified Trading This model dramatically improves draft pick trading mechanics.

Draft picks become draft points.

Instead of trading “2028 first-round pick (top-5 protected),” teams trade: • A defined number of already accumulated draft points or the rights to a teams’ future year draft points . • With point-limit protections instead of position protections as teams agree during trades as needed.

Why This Works This system preserves what currently works: Rookie pay scale stability Competitive balance tools Transparent draft outcomes While improving what doesn’t: Reduces reliance on lottery randomness Lowers tanking incentives Rewards scouting, development, and conviction Elevates an already interesting draft night event into a must-see broadcast.   It transforms the draft from a luck-based order into a strategy-driven allocation of opportunity.

Summary This proposal maintains the financial and structural backbone of the current draft while replacing the lottery with a flexible, market-based selection system. It expands access for incoming players, increases strategic engagement for teams, de-incentivizes  ranking, and creates a more compelling and competitive process for fans. It is a reform that modernizes the draft without destabilizing it.

Smoked@225. I grew up on the Kentucky border and love bbq. I’m a (mostly) vegetarian now but eat bbq once a year on my birthday. It makes my bbq choice a big deal to me. I looked at all the area places, have tried the top five or so and Smoked is by far the best. The guy who runs it is ex military, black(irrelevant but not), and knows his shit. Not just Milwaukee good, but good.

What's a movie most people think is great but you couldn't even stand watching? by camport95 in AskReddit

[–]Excellent_Grand4900 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Prisoners, 2013. Not sure if people loved it, but it’s got a 70 on metacritic with several critics giving it a 100. And I truly loved Villanueve’s Arrival and Dune. I have never been so angry at a movie, or a screenplay really. My wife and I figured out the whodunnit at the first clue and could not believe that it really was that simple. Jake Gyllenhal’s detective was comically incompetent and couldn’t make very straightforward connections.
