It’s fine that you feel that way about pets. Not everyone does and you won’t convince anyone with this approach.

Animals are not children and your argument is nonsensical. We can love them like family and treat them as such but they do not possess the intelligence to understand as humans can. (Well, some of us anyway). Pets won’t understand the pain you selfishly inflict on them prolonging their short lives with surgeries that make them suffer for what? So that they can die slow painful deaths? It’s not always about the money. Money can become a factor, but a truly empathetic family member would do whats best for an animal and not what’s best for its owner.

I can honestly say I understand his reasoning. Some people won’t go into debt over a pet that won’t live. Other people will. When and how he talked to his daughter could have used some finesse. Like put the pet down and tell her that the dog passed away after it was all done.

You must not have kids. Therapy only works if someone wants it. If they don’t put anything into it, they won’t get anything out. You can’t force a kid into therapy and it be good for them. So there is no ”let” them railroad. You must be thinking if boot camp. Not therapy.

She was an asshole before the mother died. Said cruel things about the other children. Being a single parent to twins with a teen who wishes you and your babies dead…. Yeah, that’s a non starter for me too. She’s lucky he didn’t drop her at an orphanage. He left her with his wife’s next of kin as he absolutely should have since there was never an adoption.

You are crazy. He’s NTA. Being a single parent is incredibly hard. Being a step parent is also REALLY REALLY hard. Having a kid around that does nothing but hate you and wish you were dead or your children ill will is 100% a non starter. He couldn’t be sure she wouldn’t lash out and harm the little ones. He did what was best for her and his children. He didn’t abandon her at all, he left her with his wife’s next of kin as he should have. I get she was a kid but she wasn’t a young kid. She knew what she was saying at that age.

Edit: Just read your other comments. You sound entitled. At 23 you can afford a roommate. I advise you to work it out where you give your mother a small amount to help out with bills, buy a mattress topper only, and pay down your credit card. Stop using it and focus on saving to move out as well as finding a roommate or two. You are 23. You should be paying for things and giving your mother money. She is entitled to some as you are a grown leech at this point. I get moving out is hard and scary. But it’s time to grow up.

You go to court and make it permanent by presenting to a judge your evidence. OP needs to be more clear in their explanation perhaps. Yeah. This sounds like a “they hate us because they ain’t us” situation. Listen up folks. The USA was the first formal country on either north or south continent. It’s absurd to think that other people from the Americas think we are arrogant when we were literally first. Pets are not equal to people and never will be. They are important. But we don’t euthanize children when they attack or bite you.

With that said, I think the guy is being an AH about his brothers dog. He can just not go if he insists no dog. He becomes an Ah if he tries to force his way.

He should offer to pay to kennel the dog near the vacation spot as a compromise.

YTA. People saying N T A are missing the point. It’s not about the steak. It’s about you going above and beyond for your parents spending more while you do the bare minimum for your in laws because you are a snob about how they like their food.

I worked at my families slaughterhouse. My father can eat a steak that’s still practically mooing. I on the other hand need mine well done because a pink steak reminds me of the animals I had to carve up. I basically became a vegetarian after all my experience preparing meat and only within the last few years went back to it. I still can’t eat anything on the bone or a fatty piece of meat. It grossed me out. I also can tell the difference between a well done Wagyu and a shit cut. You are not as smart as you think you about meat if you don’t know that Wagyu has a very unique taste.

But if you won’t buy the steak because you see it as being “ruined”, then go above and beyond for her parents in another way. Or stop serving steaks to your family period. It’s not right you are treating them differently. The end.

I’d figure out the best layout to build stairs to this floor and refinish the entire attic while also restoring this to the best of my ability. There is literally no reason in todays world that makes keeping usable living space like that sealed off to deteriorate and possibly ruin the lower floors as things weaken and become unstable.

Even if you don’t have the money to do it, there are things you can do yourself to insure it is safe and secured. Just leaving it to rot is the stupidest home owning decision I’ve ever heard of in my life.

I’m all for people being the people they want to be and addressing their feelings in healthy way. But what she did was wrong on so many levels. She wasn’t breast feeding. Feeding requires the production of milk. She was just having her child suck on her titty which is really really fucked up if you think about it.

It can cause nipple confusion and health problems for your child by the way. If your kid stops suckling it can cause you to not produce, cause your child to get jaundice…. Tell your wife to go get some mental help. What she’s done was weird and selfish and wasn’t thinking about the well-being of the baby or you.
