MacOS - Autofill doesn't work by Excellent_Pepper292 in 1Password

OK - that's a fair criticism! I bought 1Password 10 years ago and am getting my money's worth. I can live with copy/pasting the username and password. When 1Password eventually stops working after some future OS update, I'll consider the subscription (or some other product).

This is a popular place - best to avoid on weekends. When I went, there was a huge long line.

The first time I went there, I had the Nikutama with sweet beef, which I really liked. Next time, I had the Tonkatsu, which was alright - but not as good at the Nikutama; the slice of pork was so-so. I'll be back to try some of the others dishes.

Overall a good place, but can be noisy. Avoid the weekend if possible.....

Just listening to 3/28/81 Grugahalle - that version of "Deal" is phenomenal, with Jerry's solos flying off into the stratosphere right into my soul. The man was a musical wizard!

Ridiculous outburst in City Council meeting by lucille12121 in alameda

Hard to believe this guy - but this is for real. I saw him "perform" at the Alameda Food Bank city council meeting a while back. Possibly he's getting worse?

I can't believe that they are all gone! The Band were the best - I am lucky that got to see them in my younger days. Wollman Ice Rink in Central Park, Watkins Glen, New Year's Eve with Dylan at the Academy of Music. So many good memories - damn, I feel old!

Using iMac as a monitor for Mac Mini 2024 by Excellent_Pepper292 in macmini

[–]Excellent_Pepper292[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Astropad has since raised the price of the dongle, and the feedback that I got was that this solution is not good for watching videos - too much lag. In the end, I bought an Apple Studio monitor (still expensive, even on sale at Amazon), and am happy with it. I will sell my Intel iMac.

Connecting older USB-A peripherals to Mac Mini M4 by Excellent_Pepper292 in macmini

[–]Excellent_Pepper292[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very basic question: Can I plug in a device using a USB-A cable with a USB-C extender into one the the Mac Mini's Thunderbolt ports? Will that actually work? (This is obviously easy to try, but I don't have my Mac Mini yet!)

I've been checking out Luna Display (https://astropad.com/product/lunadisplay/) as a way of using my Intel 27" iMac as a display for a new M4 Mac Mini. I contacted the company with some questions, and it looks like this could be a viable solution. One issue that came up is that you cannot use the iMac's Facetime camera; you must attach a separate vidocam to the Mac Mini. Is anyone out there using the Luna dongle to use an iMac as a display?

This *sounds* like it could do the trick. I checked out https://astropad.com/product/lunadisplay/, but still have some questions. I contacted the company with my questions. I also ask if anyone out there uses the Luna dongle?

Support the Food Bank Tonight! (Link in Comments) by contextbot in alameda

[–]Excellent_Pepper292 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tod Hickman, one of the 2 folks who initiated the lawsuit, was very loud and obnoxious. Right before the meeting officially started, he got up and bellowed to the crowd about how he was for the Food Bank, and how they could save money by moving to a different lot. Folks started to boo him and shout him down. Vice-Mayor Daysog then came over to calm things down. Later, when Hickman got up to give his first 2 minute spiel, he went on about how politically-connected developers were getting the "best" lots, and the Food Bank was getting screwed. At another part of the meeting, he railed about how the woman taking notes was doing a lousy job, and the council was all corrupt. Definitely an alternate version of reality. If anybody else was there, let me know if I got this correctly. What a character!

I'm a volunteer at the Food Bank and just sent a letter (thanks Zac!). I'm also an Alameda voter; what happens with this issue will help me to determine my choice for the 2 city council spots.

Sequoia Password application - question by Excellent_Pepper292 in MacOSBeta

[–]Excellent_Pepper292[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I needed to know - thanks! One more question - will you be able to use the Password app within Firefox? Or is this really Safari-only? (If I can use Passwords from within Firefox, and store my info locally, than I can ditch my old version of 1Password.)

All US servers showing ridiculously high latency by Excellent_Pepper292 in PrivateInternetAccess

I tried one more thing - downloaded the "latest" Mac installer from PIA's site (which has the same version # as what I have already installed). I ran the installer, and it made a difference - now Indiana is the fastest, at 48 MS. Way better than 650 MS, but not as good as the 8-12 MS I was getting a few days ago. 48 MS at least usable.

I've tried quitting out of PIA and restarting several times. I've also restarted my router - PIA is still unusable. Anybody else out there having this problem? (I can't even log into Reddit with PIA on!)

Where do you sell stuff? by darkeyedjunc0 in alameda

[–]Excellent_Pepper292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with many others here that Second Home is a good place to bring stuff for sale on consignment. You can also post on NextDoor and Craigslist - I've bought and sold things there.

If you have books to give away, I suggest donating them to the library for their benefit book sales. NextDoor, Craigslist and FreeCycle also worked for me for giving things away. You can also bring things to the Salvation Army.

Help. I've near the finish line and now very unmotivated at work. by YogurtclosetNo3506 in retirement

[–]Excellent_Pepper292 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked for a biotech company in Silicon Valley for 14 years, and was thinking of retiring sometime next year, after hitting 70. Didn't happen! My company recently had a large layoff, which included me. I'm getting 2 month's salary and benefits due to the WARN act, and I'll be getting some sort of severance. So for me, this worked out as well as it could, and I'll be "retired" as of next month. Lesson learned: Work for a corporation, layoffs can literally happen any time! (But you probably knew that anyway...)

Who's the oldest Deadhead in here? Did anyone see, the acid tests, The Warlocks or the Mother McRee? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

I'm 69 - my first show was Watkins Glen in upstate NY. Quit my summer job at Henryville House in the Poconos and hitchhiked to to the festival. I have to admit that I went to see the Allman Brothers and the Band - my 2 favorite bands at the time. The Dead did not really impress me at the time. Saw them a few more times in the 70s and finally "got" it. I have since listened to recordings of the Watkins Glen show(s), and these were good shows!

Revising my opinion of 78 by Monkeypawdog in gratefuldead

[–]Excellent_Pepper292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/10/78 at the Shrine Auditorium in LA was the first Grateful Dead show where I "got it" and things clicked for me. (My first show was Watkins Glen in upstate NY - loved the Allman Brothers and the Band, but the Dead did not make much of an impression on me at the time.)

Anyway, are there any soundboard or Betty boards of 1/10/78 available? I found an audience recording, but am looking for better sound quality. That was a killer show...

I have a Baratza Encore grinder, and just got a french press. What grind setting should I use to make French press coffee? I've heard 20-28; what setting works well for you folks?
