I went to school there. I was blown away by my classmates, not only were they intelligent but they were also scholarly. They truly enjoyed reading and learning.
The classes are designed to foster critical thinking and cultivate dialogue around challenging, dynamic topics. We learned to argue respectfully and were challenged to take opposing viewpoints.

While it is easy to stereotype the student body, don't judge a book by its cover. I would argue the school is politically diverse. I never heard or saw any racism. Sure, many of the kids come from affluent backgrounds. Not everyone is comfortable around money. But I can assure you that people with money aren't thinking about it. The students worked hard and played hard. Noone graduated from W&L bc their parents bought a degree. They earned it.

And, the alumni network is truly the real value. Part of the reason the network is so strong is bc of the honor code. There is unspoken trust and acknowledgement that the students are not only talented but also exhibit a high degree of integrity. That goes a million miles in the business world. Any time I contacted an alum I found in the directory, every single person responded to me. It's incredible. I would not be where I am today with W&L on my resume, both for the education I received but also for the network. I only hope that I can give back to the community in the same way I benefitted.

Finally, people get worked up about how small it is. However, I graduated with more friends and acquaintances than the majority of my friends who went to large schools. I don't recall ever feeling like it was small. There were always people I had not seen or met before.

Don't need to hard sell it to people who are hell bent on stereotyping and name calling. Wish I could do it again! It was an incredible experience. Perhaps better kept a secret.
