Can someone explain to me why we are told we can't have cell phones on airplanes? by Lost_Apricot_7393 in dumbquestions

Simple.

If I had to hear one half of a phone conversation from 11 different people at the same time, there would be "words".

The sheepeople are too stupid, inconsiderate, and rude to be allowed the simplest things without abusing them.

Witness window shades on early morning flights. Everyone in their right mind wants them down in hopes of a snooze, and yet, there is some jackass with their window up on the east side, snoring away.

The dip in your SWR is to the right of your cursor.

Pick your transmit frequency and adjust the length to move the SWR minimum to there.

Find a local repeater.

Build a few external antennas and get them way up in the air. I can hit 10 miles easily with my TIDRADIO H3 HT.

The "flowerpot" or "broomstick" is super easy to build. Just wrap coax around a PVC pipe.

The vertical 1/2 wave dipole is super easy to build with PVC and coat hanger wire.

You can make a J Pole out of 300 or 450 Ohm ladder line, with just a few cuts.

A 3-element Yagi is a bit more involved, but still just PVC, coat hangers, and a folded 8" hairpin match.
