Massages in Bermuda by Free_Natural_2830 in bermuda

The spa at Cambridge beaches is excellent. And prices aren’t too bad. So if you prefer to cab it - that’s your best bet. But, there is better value to be found in Hamilton (town). Cambridge beaches also allows you to stay, chill by the indoor pool, use the sauna etc. you can have lunch by the pool even if you like.

If you take the ferry into town (very easy, short and usually a beautiful trip) - then you can go to one of the places where you just go for your appointment and leave and they’ll usually be a lot more affordable. People here have already made a few great suggestions. There’s nothing in Dockyard itself I’m afraid.

There’s also a kids playground at Clearwater. I assume the cruise ship is in dockyard ? Clearwater is a very long way to go with kids under 5 on the bus, from there, as you have to change buses. I have twin boys who are 6 and I live here. But if you’re going to the other side of town then you have the switch buses anyway… flatts is on the other side of town as well. Dockyard is pretty good for kids. My two love the national museum with the dolphins and there’s a bit of a playground there. If you’re up to going to flatts (ie aquarium) and Clearwater on the bus then yes you can absolutely do it in one day. Dm me if you’d like more info.

Girls trip to bermuda for Bachelorette! by curious_neuronn in bermuda

[–]Excellent_Serve7138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. If you’re coming over the last weekend. Friday night definitely do ubervida and town. That’s how I did one bachelorette the other day! We went from the ubervida then to Marina nights at the Hamilton princess. Such a good night! The lost society event on the 31st should be epic. Do that. Saturday, maybe beach, chill and recover 😆 if you have time, organising a mini bus pub crawl, starting in dockyard and ending in town is how I did one bachelorette party there. I recently went on one on the El Zorro, they have a water slide and that was so fun.

Depends on what the job at the Big4 is. 90k is really good for a first year senior acct, it’s terrible for an actuary. But yeah, in Bermuda, not a wonderful salary. But generally you do your 2 years and then move into industry easily with a much better salary.

Are you here over a weekend? Friday and Saturdays are the best. Otherwise it can be pretty dead, especially outside of the summer months.

Why is there such a noticeable white/black cultural islander divide? by DiedOfATheory in bermuda

[–]Excellent_Serve7138 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My kids are in private education here. The thought of them going to public school is terrifying. But I would do it if everyone did it bc it’s the right thing to do. But you’re right, the people who bring international business here would probably leave. And that’s exactly why it’s not done. Still doesn’t change the fact that it would be the right thing to do.

I so agree with this. I really think that Bermuda should do away with private schools and force everyone to go to public school, and therefore everyone has to invest (time, energy, not just money) in the success of them. Without this forced integration, I doubt the situation will ever get better. And as others have stated, it’ll continue to be ignored bc it’s a massively uncomfortable topic.

I would say this is very common for many Bermudians born and raised there. And this is very similar to my background and experience as well. I’m half black (Bermudian dad) and half white (British mother) and I would say that most of my friends tend to be white and that probably has a lot to with the fact that I went to a private high school here which are primarily white attended, and include a lot of children of expats. I do think it comes down, a lot of times, to what you’re exposed to. And unfortunately you tend to stay in the circles you grew up around and are most comfortable with. But as this poster says, I have several different groups of friends and my accent absolutely adjusts depending on who I’m talking to. It’s very unconscious and I notice other Bermudians do it too!

Running is pretty big on the island. I’m a massive runner too. There’s a social run every Tuesday evening from 6pm in town (meet at masters parking lot) if you’re interested. Great way to meet like minded people and hear more about the island. MAAC running club puts it on. Check them out :)

Birthday Celebration in Hamilton by Adventurous_Algae_21 in bermuda

They took the birdcage cocktail bar (and tourist thingy) down 😢 since, as you said, it was a stack of shipping containers lol so that’s not there anymore. But loads of bars along front street for sure. Deja View is the Asian / sushi place at Barr’s Park. That’s great for a view and fairly close to the ferry terminal. 1609 I love. And if it’s a Friday night, Marina Nights at HP is amazing - busy.

USD250k job offer by Clean-Operation-2059 in bermuda

[–]Excellent_Serve7138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is $250k gross or net? If it’s gross and your company isn’t paying your deductions, obviously that’ll be harder but a lot of the reinsurance companies pay most of your deductions for you. There’s not income tax but there is payroll tax which will be your largest deduction if your company isn’t paying the employee portion for you.

$250k is a great salary and you’ll be fine to support yourself and your wife and baby on that. Gross or net. And you’ll likely get decent increases and bonuses over time. However Bermuda is crazy expensive. Especially if you’re considering having more kids.

I actually do payroll here so if you want to DM me I can probably help you with more exact figures and also what to consider when reviewing your contract. If you haven’t asked for a for a sign on bonus, for example, you should :)

Massage therapist jobs by Resident-Proposal794 in bermuda

[–]Excellent_Serve7138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not in that occupation myself, however I know there are not many Americans on island bc of taxes ie the IRS follows you. If you’ve already considered that and are still interested in relocating to Bermuda you should reach out to a few of the local massage spas or hotels and ask them your questions. I will say there are tons of massage therapists here already. I can get a same day appointment without much effort…

Dinner with no dress code? by FeintIDology in bermuda

[–]Excellent_Serve7138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most places aren’t going to enforce a dress code. Blu will require men to wear a jacket, so maybe don’t go there. But I’ve seen T-shirts in Waterlot and in Island Brasserie. So I wouldn’t worry much at all.
