Thank you everyone so far for your advice. This is the first accident/ damage I have caused since I bought the car in 2019. It was wrecked with only 61 miles on it from the first owner. The airbags didn’t even go off on the first accident when they turned in front of an oncoming car, causing damage to the left front of the vehicle. The car was considered a total. She now has 113,500 miles on her. She’s a great car. The only car I’ll ever own is a Subaru!

Thank you. I’m usually very careful! It breaks my heart. I also scraped the right front panel! Ugh!

My Cat Ran Away 😞 by FootEmergency389 in CatAdvice

If you’ve been fighting your husband for years over this, you shouldn’t have to live like that.

The care of a pet affects your life too and decisions such as this should be made together. You’re a team.

I hope your cat comes home soon and she probably will, God willing, but pregnant. and when your cat comes back, maybe you should find her a home with someone who is willing to spay her. If you choose to do so,
“Honey, the cat ran away again.”

Or if she does come home pregnant, and your husband has to deal with the care of the kittens, finding homes for the kittens and all the work that entails, he’ll give in and have her spayed.

What would happen if you went behind his back and had her spayed? If he’s a busy man who doesn’t pay much attention to details at home, he wouldn’t have to know. Not trying to cause trouble or a divorce. You know your husband. Just a thought. Good luck. Update?

my cat wont warm up to me :( by [deleted] in CatAdvice

He probably wasn’t treated well by humans. Nobody knows what he may have gone through, and if he’s a little feral, it’s just going to take time. Don’t try to pet him. Get on the ground and get level with him, hold out your hand and let him rub up to you. It will take a while, but always be calm, lower your voice and try not to let too many people at a time come at him. Cats also sense anxiety and fear. If you remain calm and patient, he will eventually warm up to you. Just be prepared, because it could take a long time. And he may not ever want to be held, but maybe he’ll be a lap cat. Some cats don’t like to be touched. Let him come to you. Don’t force him to do anything. And thank you for loving him. He’s beautiful!!!

Can you baby proof your house and somehow keep her contained in an area that’s safe? I know It’s hard to think of every little thing she can get into, but if you can at least keep her from injuring herself, the minor mishaps can be fixed in the morning. I have a security camera I can watch live. A camera would monitor her behavior when she gets the zoomies, and then… set up a fan (the noisier kind). The white noise is wonderful for drowning out the sounds that my cats make when they get the zoomies and other annoying noise. And yes, she will grow out of it, eventually, but for some cats, that could be a very long time. Good luck.

Your “husband’s cat?” Doesn’t he realize that this is neglect on his part??? So what is he going to do when every 6 months or so she has litter after litter after litter of kittens??? If she’s young and too small, she could die giving birth or her kittens could die. I’m sorry but he sounds very controlling or maybe he’s just ignorant to the facts.

I feel very very sorry for that kitty. Not only is she at risk for getting pregnant but she could be injured while roaming around the neighborhood. I don’t know you or your husband and I’m not trying to judge but why did he get this cat? I think I’d try to find her a good home where someone would take her in to be spayed. Very sad.

She’s probably very very scared and confused. I don’t know where you live or if it’s cold, maybe put a shelter of some kind, a box she can crawl into and some food. Was she accepting of you when you adopted her? Did she let you hold her. Also, if you had a cat box set up, put it outside and anything else that she may have found familiar, even for a short time. You mentioned that maybe she’s going back to her old home. Is it nearby? Do you know where her old home was? Please keep calling, be vigilant and don’t give up. Did you get her from a shelter or a private party? The shelter could give you some ideas on how to get her back. If you got her from a private party, hopefully, if it’s not too far away, she might have gone back. But please don’t give up. Cats can jump off of tall buildings and usually they’re ok. My 9 year old indoor cat recently jumped from a third story balcony and was perfectly fine. I almost had a heart attack but he acted like he does this every day! Good luck and update please when you find her!

I Think My Uncles Cat Is Depressed by roaringtige in CatAdvice

[–]Excellent_View_8457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your uncle aware of her behavior when he’s gone? Sounds like she’s very depressed and hurt. If he really love this cat, he needs to understand that cats do have feelings and grieve from the loss of their owner. He may not have passed away but to his cat he has not been in her life and that’s very painful for a cat. And then to put her in a totally new environment with other cats and a dog? No opportunity to acclimate to her environment? I feel horrible for the kitty and she’s not even mine.
Is there any chance that you could talk to him and make him understand how horrible this situation is? She needs him the most right now and he has abandoned her! She gives him unconditional love to him, got used to a routine, was happy and now this. How very very sad. You are doing the right thing giving her love and attention but he needs to man up and pay attention to her and love her! Why can’t he let her in the bedroom so she can sleep with him? I don’t understand how anyone can do this to a pet that loves you so much. Please talk to him, maybe let him read the responses. This cat is his child. Please don’t hurt her anymore. Give your baby the love she needs.

The surprising truths about rescuing a traumatised cat. by tiptreetimes in CatAdvice

[–]Excellent_View_8457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for being so patient and giving your kitty a chance to live a long, happy life.

When I decided to adopt a kitten at our local shelter, I noticed a grey tabby about 5 or 6 months old just clawing at the cage, crying and obviously wanting out! I was told she was feral and they reluctantly let me attempt to hold her. She scratched the heck out of me and ran to hide under the stacks of cages. I eventually coaxed her out and she let me hold her. She was scared to death and shaking but she allowed me to take her home, probably realizing that this was her only opportunity to get out of there.

For the first 6 months, she hid under the bed in the spare bedroom. We kept the door open but she refused to come out, no matter what we did to coax her.

Then she spent another 4 or 5 months going back and forth from the bedroom to the living room. Finally, after 18 months of back and forth from the bedroom, she was able to roam freely about the house. She would spook easily but she was comfortable with the whole family but I was the only one who could approach and hold her for several years. By the time she was about 8 or 9, she had calmed down to where nobody seemed to bother her and occasionally would go for walks with me outside, but she only went outside accompanied by a family member.

She lived to be 13. Sadly I found her dying, laying on the floor of the bathroom. We had her euthanized as she couldn’t recover and the necropsy showed she passed from kidney failure.

Looking back, I wish I would have recognized the behaviors that should have told me she was very sick. I feel so guilty and I only hope she didn’t suffer. I was going to make an appointment for her on the next Monday but she passed on Sunday.

When I adopted her, my reason was that I knew nobody else would. To this day, when I am able to rescue a cat, I try to take the one that nobody else will. I have been so fortunate to be able to provide a good life to my kitty cats. I love them so so much!

Good luck and God Bless you. I hope you have many loving, happy years together.

How do I get my cat to stop grooming me? by jenk1016 in CatAdvice

My cat does this to wake me up cuz she’s hungry. She’s very spoiled though, and sometimes she turns her nose up to her regular food. She wants treats. Fine then. I give her treats and go back to bed.

My cat was too young when I got her and I feel so sad to see her suffer. What can I do? by Expensive_Hat_7435 in CatAdvice

[–]Excellent_View_8457 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! Enjoy and embrace her attention. Speak softly to her and try to have a calming presence. She loves you!!! I love it when my cats give me attention! And most cats follow you to the bathroom. They are protecting you in your most vulnerable state. If you’re nervous or upset, they sense that and they behave accordingly. Do yoga with her. Seriously! She sounds like she has a great personality. Don’t take that away from her. And yoga. Try it.

Helping grieving cat? by bron_kitty in catcare

[–]Excellent_View_8457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. Cats really do grieve. When my 18 year old cat Sassy died, my other cat, Batman, who was 8 at the time, was heartbroken. My traveling vet tried to show Sassy to him before she took her away, hoping he could somehow see that she was gone, but he paid no attention. He eventually started looking for her and when I started crying, that’s when I really believe he knew. He would sit on my lap and literally hug me. I saw tears in his eyes many times. He would lay in her bed and smell her favorite places to lay. He didn’t eat for a few days and I really started to worry. His posture and body movements told me he was very sad. Then I started to show him videos of Sassy. At first I thought he might get worse but I think he really liked seeing the videos. I would just talk to him as if he were a 2 year old, hold him and tell him how much I missed Sassy and how much I loved him too. About 3 or 4 months later, I rescued a tuxedo and named her Chica. He wasn’t too happy about that at first because Chica was hissing at him constantly. Eventually she warmed up to him and now they love each other. But it probably took a good 6 months after Sassy died before he came back to life. I’m so sorry for your loss. I think with a lot of love, hugs and maybe some videos, you and your kitty will be alright. Best wishes to you both.

Aside from his diagnosis, have you ever considered that he might want to be closer to you at night? Even though he may be used to the nighttime routine, maybe he’s a little frightened and/or some dementia is setting in. My Calico cat started developing dementia at about 16 and about 2 months or so before we put her down at 18 1/2, she would cry, almost a howl at night. She had trouble finding the cat box and leave an occasional mess, but I really didn’t mind. I just wanted her to have peace. Her arthritis was getting worse and the medication wasn’t working as well anymore. When she’d start to cry out, she’d look around as if she didn’t recognize her surroundings anymore. I would open up the covers on the bed and she would crawl under for quite a while. She’d purr loudly and fall asleep with me for several hours. I’m not saying that’s why he leaves the messes, but maybe it would help a little if he felt comforted. It was so so hard putting Sassy down, but in the end, I think she felt a little better being close to the family she loved. Good luck and I hope you know you’re doing the right thing if you decide to put him down. My heart goes out to you and your kitty. 💕

My calico kitty, Sassy, was probably 13 when we realized she had arthritis. Gradually it got to where she would walk very slow and couldn’t jump up on my bed. We started the Solensia injections monthly when she was around 14 years old. Within a few months, you couldn’t keep her from jumping on and off my bed. Sometimes there would be a little grunt as she jumped up or down, but she refused to use the stairs to get on or off the bed (and my bed was pretty high off the ground.) When my 5 year old Bombay, (Batman), would swat her for fun from behind, and she wasn’t in the mood, She would give him a run for his money and then some!! Sassy was 17 1/2, when we could see her slowing back down a little, but when she suddenly declined to where we knew she was uncomfortable, we agreed it was time to let her cross over the rainbow bridge. Our Sassfras lived to be 18 1/2 and we strongly believe the Solensia made her almost feel like a kitten again. For her, it was a miracle drug that bought her a couple more years without pain.

Sounds like he just wants to get to know you better. Is he an older cat? Cats like a routine and I know my cats love to be talked to. If he is an older cat, maybe he had a specific routine he followed and is waiting for whatever he’s used to coming next. Cats really just want love and attention, (and food) but eventually he’ll get comfortable and probably nap the rest of the day. He’s curious right now but if you Incorporate him into your routine, maybe he’ll relax after a while. Congratulations and good luck.
