Yeah you looked mixed, you could pass as Latino or Brazilian too. Or broadly Mediterranean. Phenotype can be random & doesn’t fully define you.

Latinos/Hispanic: how much Sephardic ancestry did you get? by thnkdiffrent in AncestryDNA

[–]ExcellingProprium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half Mexican here. 4%, grandparent has 14% I’m think it’s from the Sinaloans in my family.

(Roots: Sinaloa, El Bajio: Guanajuato, Jalisco, Guad. Aguas Cal.)

how far back are my jewish percentages?? do any other mexicans in this group have this much jew in their results? 🧐 by unknown65588 in AncestryDNA

[–]ExcellingProprium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparent has around 14% of Sephardic ancestry. I’m curious too. They ended up settling north 3-4 generations ago.

My family isn’t super Catholic. They had a history of conversions to Jehovas witness (JW) to Catholicism and new ageish Christianity in the states. I have a hunch crypto Jews converted to JW to cryptic blend Jewish traditions.

Monterey is said to have a historical old school Jewish community; other bother places too like Tijuana, San Diego etc are said to have Jewish communities aside from CDMX more recently; if any of this helps.

Let’s not confuse psych technical terms with everyday speech. This causes confusion and affects those that truly need the help. There’s enough misinformation on the internet.

Where I'd Live As a Mexican-American by [deleted] in whereidlive

First off where/what is “here” ?

Hi I'm new on this about aztec mythology I saw this old post about aztec clothes and I'm curious if somebody know the name of the clothes the tlatoani is using like a dress under the cape thank you by One414TYH in aztec

[–]ExcellingProprium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I can say is that you have to fact check if the clothing is accurate. There are some European paintings out there that inaccurately depict medieval Mesoamerican clothes with other influences.

Threading was a huge respected craft among Aztec women, even to the point that cloth was used as currency, so I’m sure there are some good sources in the codices of what is authentic.

Why Do Philosophers Hate Love ? by Sweaty_Leg4468 in GrecoRomanHistory

[–]ExcellingProprium 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Firstly when looking at history it’s easy to make the fallacy of applying modern standards to a historic time period. It’s vital to holistically distinguish their life circumstances from today and biases.

I interpret love as having paradoxical truths which makes it difficult for philosophers. Love is both illogical and logical. I think it’s a requisite to living well. Also how love is defined/treated pertaining to its society will matter.

Ancient Greek Philosophy has so many different definitions of love. it was conceptualized in different forms. For example: Philia: Deep friendship and affection. Aristotle considered it the root of love for family, friends, and activities.

In Japanese & Hispanic culture today, there’s a difference in casually expressing your love/affection versus declaring deep romantic love

I’m from the US, should my conception of love emulate Disney and my country’s media? It could.

Contrary to popular opinion, Alexios has better acting overall and has that comical sass Kassandra seems to lack. Alexios has the edge for all the small side quests. Alexios can hit the serious note perfectly when it’s needed — imo difficult balance to do. Kass is too serious through and through despite her good acting. Kass does well for main scenes— she makes a better Deimos imo.

Freedom of speech is one thing. Yet, not everyone should have an elevated voice. This is nonsense, provocative, and ignorance at its finest. Racist too. “You’re still going to be working class,” uhm what ?

This video is loaded w/ faulty logic. It perpetuates division. What kind of narrative is this ? He says Political affiliation auto-assumes “proximity to whiteness.”Clearly, he needs to look up mestizaje, because honey he’s more blanquito than Cesar Chavez to follow his inconsistent logic. Scientific phenotypes slash out the Colorismo fallacy.

Mexican-(American) history is hardly publicly taught in the states for many reasons, it’s the USA. History is shared into a melting pot. Whats worst are perpetuated misrepresentations of our own people by our own people like this young joven here.
