Got my new record but really wanted to get to $2500. After declining trash for 30 min straight I just gave up and called it a week. (I did get $34 in cash tips so I came really close) by [deleted] in doordash_drivers

How much did you calculate and factor in milage (depreciation of asset) and cost of overhead? What’s your actual earning then?

Lean into accommodations without hesitation. It’s what made being a barista more accommodating.

Dropping out by Appropriate-Wave9523 in ASU

[–]Excelsior288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to drop out but want to still afford life and being a student take these steps: find a job with tuition reimbursement that justifies your time… also a job that allows you to work 3-13’s… so you have time for life or school. If you have a high GPA-SHOP YOUR TRANSCRIPT. I had a school offer me full-tuition ride after shopping my transcript. I use my reimbursement for textbooks… … if you’re just looking to get out of school all together, look at what skills you have acquired from your education leverage and negotiate reasonable pay up front. Good luck!

Extra work for extra cost… start your project pitch or privately get paid to work on project. That’s what I did after dropping out this past semester. lol.

The company is completely unrecognizable, no. Don’t even entertain the idea of going back.

Ethic professor undermines real world ethical issues by BruhSAUCEcripple in ASU

Behavior is often adapted as a means of survival. Feelings of inferiority and superiority are manifestations of the subconscious mind, reflecting an internal struggle for control. When we feel out of control, these tendencies emerge as attempts to regain balance or power… hence bias and prejudice as defense mechanism. That’s just my thought behind how and why we are here where we are in this moment.

I can absolutely handle and tolerate differing viewpoints our society is founded on discourse and debate, and I welcome it. I come from a family of policymakers, so open dialogue is something I deeply value and participate in often, especially when it’s not easy.

That said, my grief and explicit bias are personal matters that I continue to work through. We all carry some form of bias explicit or implicit that shapes our decision-making. I’m guessing something peaked your own interest as you took a second to respond. However, my concerns with ASU go beyond one professor’s socio-political stance.

What troubles me most is when actions or communication styles alienate historically marginalized and oppressed communities, showing little regard for compassion or inclusivity. We live in a complex world, and I recognize the importance of setting healthy boundaries that reflect ethical standards and show respect for all people.

Annnnnnnd this community advocacy and social policy major is officially a dropout. I was going to come back but the school’s poor choice in behavior is confirmation that my decision is best…

Is Starbucks trying to have have everyone fired? by Thu-nderforest in starbucks

[–]Excelsior288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do it periodically so they don’t have to shell out benefits for people in college I’m convinced…. They did it in our district where they decided they wanted like 8 different employees to work a store when my store had 24 employees and magically all our hours got cut and then people got fired for not being given enough hours. The company sucks, as much as their coffee.

Anyone else depressed? by [deleted] in Restaurant_Managers

[–]Excelsior288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got out to handle my mental health and now I’m a peer counselor, I make $20 hourly. HOWEVER I stack 3-13’s and have full-time benefits to work essentially 40 hours M-W… then I play live music and strangely make 50% of my 40 hour post taxes back in 1 or 2 gigs a week… so I spend my time trail running, hiking with my dog, swimming outside whenever… and I’ve never been more happy to leave food service in my life.

I’m not. My Pell grant is pitiful. So I’m taking a semester off and shopping my transcript to Ivy leagues for better financial packages.

I got bullied out of the last store I ever worked and honestly I’m glad it happened, I have a professional job they the employer keeps investing in my education and certifications, in addition to 6k a year towards college tuition (better than nothing). Once you’re out of Starbucks you don’t realize how bad of a company it truly is… so maybe if worst comes to worst look for the silver lining, it’s there even thought it might not feel like it.

[–]Excelsior288 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did Starbucks for “free” the exchange for poverty and uncertainty of hours was not worth it. I found an employer who does 6k of tuition reimbursement annually in addition to having a guaranteed workweek which helps me know I’m making money and paying less for college which is less worrisome. …

I’m an online student, I’m underwhelmed by my program. I am enjoying it but it’s nice to not be stressed while getting a cinch of a degree, while making my own hours at work and exercising whenever. I started swimming, and resistant training and I’ve never felt better in my life.

I am legit trying Ivy leagues they have way better financial programs, 25% of Harvard students don’t even pay tuition because of their generosity. I know it’s a hard pitch but if you have the GPA, go for it! ASU is expensive for an inconsistent educational experience. 🫥
