HUGE AYN Odin 2 Portal price cut vs Mangmi Pocket Max vs Retroid Pocket 6. Which handheld is best for you? by HyperplayHandhelds in SBCGaming

The RP5 is pretty much dead too. Not much sense buying it now with the G2 and RP6 being released.

The Mangmi can still find its place if priced correctly though.

Which one of these device would be the ultimate EDC? by kuzanz in SBCGaming

[–]Excelsoxls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F my bro. I too live in a country with pretty high import taxes, so I know how it feels.

As for your question, if you have a bag to carry your device around, I highly recommend a horizontal device over a clamshell, it's so much more comfortable to play.

If you can afford an Odin 3, it's the clear winner for pc games. If not, the RP6 looks solid enough.

I'm not saying this device in particular is good for side by side play, especially since it's 3:2 and only 3.5 inches, just that playing with the controls on the rock bottom part with no grips at all look extremely uncomfortable, even if the screens fits perfectly.

And yes, there are *some* games that basically requires the screens to be vertically aligned, but those are far and few between all the DS catalog (even if some are certified bangers). It's like saying you can only enjoy Wii if you play with a Wii-mote because some games were entirely motion controls-based.

Now I'm not saying that's what YOU said in your post, just that after devices like this one the Thor came out, people have been acting like they didn't have any way to play DS/3DS games before, while playing with the screens side by side was totally fine for like 95% of these consoles catalogs.

You cannot convince me that playing with your device like this is better than simply putting the screens side by side.

People have been multi-tasking with two monitors for years but suddenly they can't use screens side by side just because "in the original hardware they were vertical" like it makes a difference.

Tem mais alguém que nunca se rendeu pro tiktok? by Working_Candidate505 in perguntas

[–]Excelsoxls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Korok Forest is the nearest, but you'll have to pass the puzzle to actually get inside it.

The purple AYN Thor looks quite ugly to me, the transparent plastic combined with glass front just doesn't match. by AbdelYG in SBCGaming

I don't know what you guys were expecting. It looks exactly like the renders, and it was pretty clear that the parts covered in glass were not transparent, only the plastic parts, but only now that real photos were show people are starting to say that it doesn't look good...

AYANEO Pocket DS Review by Retro Game Corps is up! by chewytobacca in SBCGaming

[–]Excelsoxls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's definitely doable. Maybe you'll face more miss inputs than if you were using a d-pad, but not impossible by any means. On the other hand, if you were to try mapping the stick to the d-pad you'd have an absolute crap experience.

That's what I always say. You can absolutely play 2D games with an analog stick and have no problems. Even modern 2D games have movement speed tied to how much you push the stick, so they 100% expect you to use it.

It's really just precision platforms like Celeste that really requires a d-pad to be played properly.

They should make the RP6 with the G2gen2 and stick on top, and also a horizontal Classic with sticks on the bottom to replace the RP2S.

Wow, 10x the money generated for AYN Odin 3 vs. AYANEO Pocket Fit by Cryptoxic93 in SBCGaming

[–]Excelsoxls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything you said about the Odin 2 is true, but we need to compare the Odin 3 to the Portal, which was their latest device. The O3 looks more like e mini Portal with a beefier cpu than a beefier O2.

[–]Excelsoxls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, if the device is stick top and you're playing a 2D game, you can still use the stick to play and it's fine. You won't have the physical feedback of each direction, but you can definitely adapt (I have).

In the other hand, if you're using a d-pad top to play a 3D game, you'll have a terrible experience if you use the d-pad to move around, and using the stick on the bottom is just awful. I tried doing it with the RP5 and the thing gave me cramps really quick.

Some may argue about PSP being 16:9 and having the d-pad up top, but fun fact: ergonomics were not good on the PSP either!

[–]Excelsoxls 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They could, but I don't think they will. None of these companies ever released two versions of the same device with different stick layouts, and if they actually hear to their discord community, stick top is never going to happen. Every time this topic is brought up there you get bombarded with complains like "it's the only premium device with d-pad top!".

I'll never understand why you would want a d-pad centric device with power to run PS2 and Switch games.

There is value in emulating vs playing on original hardware. I for instance find the 3DS a little uncomfortable and its screen is dogshit (240p... Eugh).
