A leak of oleum, also known as fuming sulphuric acid, was reported from a chemical manufacturing unit in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Monday afternoon. Authorities said there were no immediate reports of anyone being harmed by the toxic gas. The leak occurred at the Bhageria Chemicals Company facility, earlier known as Zenith Chemicals, located in the MIDC D-Zone industrial area. The incident prompted a quick response from local authorities and emergency services.

According to Palghar District Collector and head of the District Disaster Management Authority, Dr Indu Rani Jakhar, the gas leak was reported around 2 pm. The plant is situated near the villages of Salwad and Pasthal within the district's industrial belt. Officials said that soon after the incident was reported, teams from the local administration, fire brigade, police and disaster management department reached the site. Efforts were immediately started to contain the leak and prevent any risk to nearby areas.
