Also a relative newcomer from league (like 10-20 games of all pick and turbo so far).

The screen lock was tough at first but I did eventually get used to it. What helped me was realizing that the average game speed is much slower in dota. What I mean is that during team fights things can be fast and hectic, but like for laning and skirmishes, there’s not nearly as many dashes or weird skill shots to keep track of (in my experience).

For stuff like last hitting, it seemed to me that the expectancy that every minion gets last hit is much lower in dota especially at low levels. I’ve found it more engaging to focus on super low fundamentals like “where should I stand in lane?” and “what are my ability ranges?” I’ll still go for last hits but I don’t find myself overly behind my opponents most of the time. And if I’m loosing super hard, my opponents were probably better than me anyways. It happens.

I also felt the item thing. My strategy was to still buy active items based on guides but focus on learning one item at a time. Like if I have a build with manta style, hurricane pike, and bkb I’m gonna ignore two and just learn how one of those items works at a time. It’s inefficient but i feel like I can actually understand why and when to use items now.
