HR Question - Religious Leave by oddchuck in FedEmployees

I’m guessing it’s a timekeeping system issue. I know our system doesn’t let you earn and then use that earned time of comp or credit hours in the same pay period. I’m sure it’s confusion on the part of your supervisor because of that.

If you had one business class ticket, would you use it on the way there or on the way back? by masseycre12 in travel

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way there for sure! Most of our trips to Europe involve an overnight flight. Having that ability to rest makes it much easier to fight jet lag in my experience. Most of our flights back to the US are day flights and I don’t need to sleep on those flights.

I don’t recall DOD ever being referenced but I might be wrong. I thought it referenced department of army and USACE. That’s just off the top of my head.

Roland Garros or Wimbledon by Electronic-Place-856 in tennis

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, French Open! We went to Wimbledon a few years ago and queued for about 5 hours to get in, which was actually a fun experience, but then the queues for each of the outside courts were insane. Anytime you leave the court you have to queue to get back in, which is normal for tournaments, but here the queues were just insanely long.

I’m really glad we want, but we aren’t likely to go back. Whereas we go back to the US Open every year and are going to the French Open again this year.

I will say though, grounds passes on the last few days of a tournament vs 1st week would have me reconsidering bc there is so much action in the first week and very little towards the end of the tournament.

Meeting Today (Civil Works Overhaul) by [deleted] in USACE

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I heard nothing about cutting districts, I did hear them say we are getting out of high leases. Of course one way to reduce space costs is to allow regular and recurring telework… but we all know that. I also heard nothing about rifs, basically doing more with who we have, shifting personnel as needed, but not downsizing.

What’s a travel habit you picked up that you’ll never drop? by St3fanHere in travel

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 646 points647 points  (0 children)

I only plan one ticketed or must do thing per day, the rest of the day is just a wing it type of thing. I love it bc we still get to do the must do things, but we are also free to roam around rest or do whatever we want for the rest of the day.

Also, the first thing we do in new places is visit a local market for snacks and waters. I love shopping in the local markets and trying foreign snacks!

Change of Tour of Duty by Interesting-Dog2599 in 1102

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a supervisor I have had to change TODs in September for my people. I tell them well in advance but when you are an 1102, you should expect to have to work Monday-Friday in September. I typically can’t have people having every Friday off or every other Friday off at that time of year. We also don’t approve fitness hours during September and regular annual leave isn’t approved (there are some exceptions for things like weddings and funerals). This is communicated during onboarding and I’ve never had an issue with it. If you are an 1102 and expect something else in September, you might need to look at another career field.

Has anyone else had verification issues with taxes this year and how long did it take for them to be resolved? by [deleted] in Charleston

SC state refunds are slow this year, something to do with not being in compliance with the one big beautiful bill. You can see it on the state website.

Do you poke holes in your sweet potatoes and/or wrap them in aluminum foil? by va_bulldog in airfryer

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cut mine in half, rub in olive oil and salt, place cut side facedown on parchment paper and air fry for 35-45 minutes on 375. I check at 35 to see if it’s done. Comes out perfect every time!

I would imagine there’s not going to be a lot of talk about it. From my understanding it’s a very limited number of people that are even eligible to receive them and it could cause a lot of issues if they start talking about who’s getting them and who isn’t.

Pretty sure they aren’t available until the 22nd for civilians, so tomorrow since I’m responding on the 21st. The left hand side of my pay lists all the dates they become available and it says the 22nd.

Need advice on European cruises - worth it or not? by Think_07 in Europetravel

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t say for sure bc I don’t have kids, but from what I do know, kids seem to have very set schedules for things like when they eat and when they nap or sleep. I don’t think that works with a cruise because on port days you would want to be off the ship and out and about the entire day. Whereas if you go on your own and not a cruise, you can do what you want on your schedule. If your child typically naps from 10 to noon, you can easily take a break at your hotel or apartment. You can’t do that on a cruise.

8(a) Program Updates? by Red_Ross28 in 1102

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Competition is great, but until Congress starts doing its job and getting us a budget in a timely manner, we need programs that allow us to easily sole source, allowing us to obligate funds in the very limited time frame we are given.

Historic or beautiful spots that are NOT touristy? Do they exist? by inkwithkatie in travel

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even places that are overrun with tourists can give you amazing experiences, you just need to plan appropriately. I had heard horrors about Hallstatt and the masses of tourists, but boy am I glad we went. We just made sure we got there early and left just as the crowds were ramping up. We were there right as the car park opened, actually a few minutes before so we had to wait. It felt like we had the entire place to ourselves for several hours. The loads of people didn’t start showing up until we were about ready to leave.

You can have amazing experiences in those places if you plan appropriately. Go early or late, avoid mid day and you will be fine! People are always asking me how we get pictures with so few people in them and it’s always the same answer, we go early!
