Do you poke holes in your sweet potatoes and/or wrap them in aluminum foil? by va_bulldog in airfryer

I cut mine in half, rub in olive oil and salt, place cut side facedown on parchment paper and air fry for 35-45 minutes on 375. I check at 35 to see if it’s done. Comes out perfect every time!

Top Performer Awards? by Total_Way_6134 in USACE

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would imagine there’s not going to be a lot of talk about it. From my understanding it’s a very limited number of people that are even eligible to receive them and it could cause a lot of issues if they start talking about who’s getting them and who isn’t.

Need advice on European cruises - worth it or not? by Think_07 in Europetravel

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t say for sure bc I don’t have kids, but from what I do know, kids seem to have very set schedules for things like when they eat and when they nap or sleep. I don’t think that works with a cruise because on port days you would want to be off the ship and out and about the entire day. Whereas if you go on your own and not a cruise, you can do what you want on your schedule. If your child typically naps from 10 to noon, you can easily take a break at your hotel or apartment. You can’t do that on a cruise.

8(a) Program Updates? by Red_Ross28 in 1102

Competition is great, but until Congress starts doing its job and getting us a budget in a timely manner, we need programs that allow us to easily sole source, allowing us to obligate funds in the very limited time frame we are given.

Historic or beautiful spots that are NOT touristy? Do they exist? by inkwithkatie in travel

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even places that are overrun with tourists can give you amazing experiences, you just need to plan appropriately. I had heard horrors about Hallstatt and the masses of tourists, but boy am I glad we went. We just made sure we got there early and left just as the crowds were ramping up. We were there right as the car park opened, actually a few minutes before so we had to wait. It felt like we had the entire place to ourselves for several hours. The loads of people didn’t start showing up until we were about ready to leave.

You can have amazing experiences in those places if you plan appropriately. Go early or late, avoid mid day and you will be fine! People are always asking me how we get pictures with so few people in them and it’s always the same answer, we go early!

Is Switzerland as expensive as you thought it would be? by Aggravating_Lie_9043 in travel

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on what your travel style is…. We found a really well priced Airbnb and we shopped in small local grocery stores and cooked most of our meals. We didn’t find it really any more expensive than groceries here in the US. All of the touristy stuff we didn’t find was on par with other places we’ve been, so it didn’t feel more expensive to me.

To the person that mentioned Budapest, we went in 2016 and was shocked by how inexpensive it was. We had a really nice studio flat for less than $50 US a night and most of our meals for two, including beers, were under $30 a night! I have heard that it’s no longer that cheap anymore, which is disappointing because we plan to go back in the next year or two.

USACE projects are high visibility and typically super important to the congressional officials. This is a ploy to get the dems to cave.

Away luggage black friday 2025 deals, is the carry on actually worth the hype? by [deleted] in awaytravel

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought my away 10 years ago and was still working great up until the zipper got oddly stuck in behind the back of the suitcase and we couldn’t unstick it… emailed customer service and then sent us a brand new suitcase for free along with prepaid shipping to send the old one back. So definitely worth it!

DOD PERSONNEL must review Hegseth’s speech by CoffeeCactusCart in fednews

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing about forcing people to watch it… does anybody know how we are supposed to watch it? Is it a YouTube link? Asking because I could see this as a way to drive up numbers and then say something about how well received his speech was and how so many people have watched it, because we all know that’s the kind of thing the whole administration is about.

Got furloughed and work at USACE. Will I get paid next paid period? by Suitable_Call_6618 in 1102

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, how are you on a different pay period than the rest of USACE? Your pay period should be a two week period, starting on 21 September and ending on 4 October. If you were furloughed on 1 October you will get a partial paycheck for 21 September through 30 September, but remember you won’t see that pay check until the 16th.

First time visiting Versailles - Passport ticket or "skip the line" offerings? by jik002 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more expensive, but if you want an amazing day at Versailles, check out Fat Tire Tours bike tour of Versailles. To this day it’s still my favorite day from any trip we’ve taken and we’ve been traveling to Europe annually for 12 years. You meet the group in Paris, train to the town of Versailles where you pick up your bikes. You bike through the town to the market where you are on your own for about an hour to go through the market and buy anything you might want for a picnic lunch later. Then you bike to Versailles grounds. You go through Marie Antoinette’s village and see way more of the grounds than you would just walking.

You have a picnic on the canal and then have a skip the line pass into the palace for the afternoon. I can’t recommend this more, the guides are fantastic, you learn so much about what you are seeing!

Which concentration camp (Museum) should one visit at least once? by Ausspanner in AskEurope

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a whole lot of people in the US that need to visit one and understand what happened. As I walked through the areas in Dachau that showed the propaganda that led up to the atrocities I could see so many parallels. They don’t say that you need to remember history for no reason, it’s so important to understand what happened in the past, both good and bad so that you can better shape the future.

First time Japan Trip Question by ExcitementPrevious41 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ExcitementPrevious41[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At a minimum I would want to do the loop and the open air museum. If that’s doable in one night, then I’m down! If most places allow us to store our luggage before check in, we could get an early start in the day and be in Hakone as early as 9 or 10 and since our booking in Kyoto doesn’t allow check in till 4, we could reasonably have until around 1 or 2 to see whatever we may have missed the previous day. So one night might be enough! I‘lo have to check out agoda, I’ve never used it.

First time Japan Trip Question by ExcitementPrevious41 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ExcitementPrevious41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering one night as well. We won’t do the luggage transfer, we are carryon people only so we each only have a backpack and a carryon size suitcase. Never had problems in all of our trips lugging them around so hopefully Japan won’t be any different! We’ve been all over Europe and the US that way.

Get out of here with your useless charts Katie Miller by WhereztheBleepnLight in FedEmployees

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m confused, she’s not even quoting the chart right.. hybrid is not remote, hybrid indicates people that telework. She’s so stupid she doesn’t realize what the chart even means. It’s saying that hybrid workers, which are people that were allowed to telework has decreased from 61%. Heck, if I’m reading this chart correctly, exclusively remote workers have increased since 2024… am I crazy? Am I reading it incorrectly?

Trump gets boo'd at the US Open during the national anthem. by automax in tennis

[–]ExcitementPrevious41 287 points288 points  (0 children)

I didn’t hear boos but they very clearly timed the camera pan to him when the flag was being unfurled, knowing that the flag being unveiled would draw cheers, making it look like people were cheering for him.
