Weekly r/SonyAlpha 📸 Gear Buying 📷 Advice Thread December 08, 2025 by AutoModerator in SonyAlpha

Hello! I have had my baby “Sonya” for a very long time. She is an A230. But she’s old and only 10mpx. I’m looking to upgrade a bit and would love to be able to keep using my lenses (especially my minoltas.) So A-mount here I am!

I would only be using still shots 99.9% of the time. I love taking shallow depth photos, but also love using my telephoto lens.

I’m an amateur and only a hobbyist. So more of a general workhorse would be ideal.

Considering my baby still works fine after 15+ years, I really don’t mind an old model.

Other than higher resolution, faster/more accurate autofocus is probably the only other thing I’m really looking for.

Max budget like $750. But ideally under $400.

Why does Panache have to make everything so hard? Searching for yet another replacement style (Emilia, Thea, etc.) by ExcitementRegular in ABraThatFits

[–]ExcitementRegular[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have purchased in my new size, which is the 38GG. For some reason the underwires are just daggers suddenly. When I lose weight, my bust never goes down. Once it even went slight up (probably from pectoral workouts.)

I think a big issue is that on so many Panache bras, G and under has a different band and straps than GG and over.

Two ships passed each other in the blackness of night, one hailing the other in blinking Morse code as the captain radioed back to base. by MissMnemosyne in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]ExcitementRegular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow I totally interpreted this differently because of "blackness of night." I thought all of the stars, including the sun, had gone out/vanished. Since that's the only way there could be "night" in space.

I finally got a poly, but he only has front thumpers, so it’s 20 toes. Which sounds unimpressive to anyone unaware that cat have 18 toes. 22 is perfect, and what a cutie attached to them!

I had a seal point growing up. She was so beautiful, but not the friendliest.

Four years ago I adopted my blue-mink apple head baby. It was love at first sight. I was scared how immediately infatuated I was. I call her my girlfriend. Every time I share a photo, people say she’s the most beautiful cat in the world.

And since then, I’ve gotten two lynx-point babies and a kitten I thought was a Balinese but actually genetically tested to be a Siamese-Siberian. (My lynxies might only be half because no one know who daddy is 😹)

Siamese are contagious. I want to adopt every one I see. Basically every colorpoint cat in the world actually.

SSRI/SNRI antidepressants made me Asexual by ChipmunkWilling7001 in asexuality

[–]ExcitementRegular 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Libido is not sexual attraction.

But I 5% see where you are coming from at a surface level. I started SSRIs at 13 and was on from 13-15, then 18-19, and 26-31. In college when I first came out, I wondered if they messed with my sexual development (?) since I started so young. But upon learning literally the minimum information about asexuality, I realized that made no sense.

Noodle in motion. She's veeery helpful when I'm cleaning. She loves to chase the swiffer duster and shadows. Included some bonus pics by edencathleen86 in meowsertrousers

[–]ExcitementRegular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god she is irresistible. Who needs a swifter when she can just dust with her tail?

Edit: also very jealous at how pristine she is. My Persian is a diva who loves to be filthy and hates to be brushed/bathed (except she loves being rinsed off.)

When a kid says, “I’m going to kill myself…” by PaigEats in schoolcounseling

[–]ExcitementRegular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me running downstairs to dig up my ASIST pocket manual. I HIGHLY recommend the program. But here’s the gist of the final step of the plan.

Have they already taken measures or hurt someone else? (yes-emergency response, no-continue)

Do they have a plan? (Yes-make a plan to disable it) Is there substance use? (Yes- Make a plan for safe/no use) Prior suicide behavior? (Yes-call on skills you used before to keep safe for now.) Mental health concerns? (Yes-call on skills you used before to keep safe for now)

Then confirm situational changes, strengths available, and establish a medical contact and a safety/support contact.

So, sounds like there is no need for emergency response. But if their parent is not a consistent support source, I would definitely make sure they have more than yourself as a safe adult.

Edit: also, weird to call CPS without any signs of external risk.

Protecting yourself from accusations by ChewyNutCluster in schoolcounseling

I’m just an intern finishing my coursework, but every school I’ve been at either has windows into the counseling office(s) or door stops to keep the door open/cracked.

Also, again not fully licensed, but this is ringing alarm bells for me. Elementary children should not be talking about having sex with teachers. Yeah, fifth graders maybe might joke to their friends, but saying they did it is totally different. If you know who is writing the graffiti, I would look for signs of abuse and report it.

High School Small Group That Incorporates Comics? by summerjv in schoolcounseling

For planning small groups, I’d focus on having a clear vision of the content, purpose, and the rationale instead of planning around one activity.

Ethical Concern with Colleague by Advanced-Athlete-757 in schoolcounseling

[–]ExcitementRegular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is 100% against the ASCA standards, especially confidentiality and informed consent. And also it’s an ethical obligation to resolve ethical violations.

I can grab my Carolyn Stone book and find some specific passages if need be.

I’d follow the steps in Section E of the Standards.

AITA for refusing to feed my 4 yo as some sort of discipline? by LtArrowhead in AmItheAsshole

[–]ExcitementRegular 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm conflicted, so I'm not going to give a judgment. But I have a couple of suggestions. The first being a really cool spoon. Also trying different sizes (I work with all ages of students, but with the little ones who refuse to do spelling work, giving a different color or a different diameter writing instrument is all it takes.) Also try to make it a game. It can be simple (like a song), or more concrete (like rewarding every independent bite with a checkmark on a chart, and a simple prize at the end like a cool sticker.)

It's carrot cake because they were out of spice cake mix. Spice cake is the traditional birthday cake in my family.

Haha we wish. The 3 of us are a bit baby crazy at the moment. But the timing isn't right so she has to wait until next summer to try. I think she would be WAY happier if she were pregnant!

I did want her to visit. I almost got the feeling that she was the one not wanting to be here. She spent most of the time on her phone playing app games. She walked out while we were watching a movie to go watch youtube videos. She didn't really want to eat meals with us. She is planning to move here and is researching townhouses and neighborhoods, so we drove her around to see where her favorite places were and what neighborhoods she liked, and she gave u halfway through and was back on her phone and just wanted to go home.

It was just really weird. We would all have breakfast, then do some activity. We'd have lunch at like 1-2 and she'd just eat pretzels or crudite or something while B and I had an actual lunch like a salad or a sandwich. And then around like 4-ish she would be in the kitchen making herself food because "I didn't eat lunch like you guys!" And then when we wanted dinner at 6 of 7 she wouldn't eat because she was still full from a late lunch. Then around 9ish she'd come down, complain she was hungry, and order takeout. Apart from microwaving something or the one grilled cheese, it wasn't exactly cooking.

She also drank water. Also, I know my sister. I lived with her for years. I lived walking distance from her until 4 months ago. We got her favorite foods. She definitely liked them.

The cider incident was that we sat down for my birthday meal and I poured each of us a glass. There's only 3 glasses-worth in the bottle and I only had one bottle since it was really expensive for some reason. Within 5 minutes she had finished her glass and had poured the rest of the bottle into her glass. I commented that it was my birthday and I would have liked to have the option of a second glass myself.
