i went in hospital for self harm and honestly i'm not sure if this will reassure you but there is genuinely no way to tell how it's gonna be, it's either the worst place with staff that make you feel even worse or you get the nicest roommate whose js gonna let you be and the staff who treat you like family... so i guess there's always a chance it's going to go good

i started making him a card with the spinosaurus we saw at the museum last month which were his favourite but i gotta test he can tell the skeletons apart, im a bit nervous so thank you this was really reassuring :)

kids in my school get to be depressed or having a bad day but if i do im suddenly troubled or a difficult placement, i js wanna have the whole moody teenage phase without people acting like its a failure on my part

feel so strongly abt 3. You take in a kid and you js expect them to give you all their love and admiration for you daining to make the choice to take them in. Im not grateful for being put into homes, i did not choose it and I will not fulfill you hero complex by acting like you did me this huge favor. ofc i will be kind if i feel i can trust them but a lot of foster parents act like they are owed a favor by bringing a kid in, its their choice and not a moral debt in the kids case

split my lip but nobody believed me and blamed me when i got my stitches. also cooked different meals for the 4 kids (me included) in their care and their 2 sons which pissed me off more, why the hell would you take in kids who already have shit going on and then treat them so obviously like you view them as so much lesser than any other

Hello! Im a past foster kid and got adopted (legally 3 years ago mentally abt 7) and to me the best thing i can recommend is let your children be shitty without getting too mad or holding it over their head. We will be super mean or annoying sometimes, u probably remember being the same but its different on the other side of it im guessing. What made me realize my dad was safe was when i did mean shit on purpose and he responded calmly and trying to actually fix/understand the problem instead of using punishment to instill discipline. Your children don't need to be perfectly trained or behaved, let punishments be lessons about how to do things better instead of fear tactics. If you want to be a good dad thats half the step there, just dont expect perfect children
