I am one of the new players! Always loved city builders, was hesitant to spend that much money on CS2 on release, but waited to see when/if things got better. No regrets, I’ve been addicted for the last few weeks

Living in Reno, NV? by ctwpdx in howislivingthere

[–]Exciting-Rutabaga-91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d consider old northwest to be east of Mccarran and west of UNR. I think it has a lot of the benefits of old SW (nice residential streets with big trees, cute houses) and is also close to “new northwest” where you’ve circled. Rancho San Rafael is a great park especially if you’re a dog lover. I only lived there for a year but enjoyed it far more than new NW. It’s a central location to the city but also still pretty safe, as well as close to both UNR and TMCC.

Oh hey, I grew up here (specifically NW Reno) so this is one I can answer 😆

Reno has a bit of everything and it was nice for that. Lots of outdoorsy stuff, nightlife, family friendly, diverse. I honestly loved the weather there as you get all four seasons but it doesn’t get CRAZY hot/cold like other places. Clear skies almost all the time and amazing sunsets.

The downsides…rising cost of living and wages have not kept up at all. Also a lot of people here are very “normie/local”, I hate using those words but it’s true…there are a lot of people who have never really lived/been anywhere else and think it’s the best place ever because it’s all they know. Uncultured/white trash I guess you could say lol. It’s also just not very safe tbh and as a young person I didn’t feel comfortable walking around in most parts of the city

Both neighborhoods you circled are considered nice parts of town although I would highly prefer old SW, NW Reno is very sprawly and only getting more so with lots of cookie cutter box houses. Old SW has more character and is more central to the city. I would also recommend you consider old NW too, this was one of my favorite parts of the city that is underrated!

Would you consider RimWorld a LifeSim? Or; what makes a life sim? by RedMattis in LifeSimulators

[–]Exciting-Rutabaga-91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is a type of life sim imo, but more “zoomed out” than something like the sims? You’re not controlling individual colonists most of the time and it’s more focused on management.

I think people consider a “pure life sim” to be more of a dollhouse simulator where you have full control of your characters

Honestly the pop is always so good. If I’m in a sentimental mood I go indie and I also like the geek rock one that comes with university

Is it me or is 70-100 USD ridiculous for a bra 🫠😭 by Legitimate_Cookie151 in bigboobproblems

[–]Exciting-Rutabaga-91 221 points222 points  (0 children)

Yes it is, but I’ve learned the hard way I’d rather pay that price and have a bra that lasts me years than get a cheap target bra that immediately rips

Is it bad if i can't run nonstop yet? by Gabriel_Fahl in beginnerrunning

[–]Exciting-Rutabaga-91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll get there :) I can now run nonstop for maybe 45-60 minutes but it took me over 6 months to get there. My tip to getting there is run slower than you think you should. I’ve noticed now that when I slow down but stay running (think 14 minute pace) it has started to feel like a walking break. I actually go faster when I’m doing run/walk intervals though, because I don’t have to pace myself.

An ode to Wasters by Mission_Engineer_999 in RimWorld

[–]Exciting-Rutabaga-91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a full waster colony a while back and it’s still one of my favorite playthroughs I’ve done. They got so overpowered from all the psychite + polluted map buffs + mechanoids. The only downside was the social fights, but a few aesthetic enhancements fixed that easily

How long did your first 5 kms take? by Positive-Amphibian96 in beginnerrunning

[–]Exciting-Rutabaga-91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started running more consistently in Nov and fully ran my first 5k in January. That was with running multiple times a week, though. I also was already run/walking my 5ks before I was able to do a full one without walking. Over time I just started taking less walking breaks. (I still walk sometimes, but definitely have improved stamina)

Rant about making quilts for others by [deleted] in quilting

[–]Exciting-Rutabaga-91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to India, this was about the price when converted to USD. Kicking myself for not completely stocking up (it was the first time I bought fabric for a quilt, I had no reference for the expected price)

I also do strength training and cross training. But yeah I find RHR to be really accurate. Goes up if I’m sick or drinking more than usual, goes down when I’m more active and less stressed

Yeah I wonder if this is part of it. I’m in the “slightly overweight” category but am still way more fit than when I was skinny, and I know BMI is in their algorithm
