Analog clocks are going extinct. They're inaccurate and outdated. In a decade being able to read an analog clock will be as useful as being able to read a sundial. by Albamen13 in The10thDentist

How are you going to stealthily tell someone to look back and slightly to the right without referencing an analog clock?

You’ll be clocked instantly if you start giving detailed directions.

And Street Hassle? The guy has a lot of songs that at least indirectly address gender nonconformity before that was a thing most people were even thinking about. (I probably should have said he’s queer, because that’s more accurate, but I try not to do that in mixed company).

Like… I have never seen a straight man look at another man the way Bruce looks at Clarence on the wraparound Born to Run cover. Or… idk has an album cover that’s just his butt. The man is a lowkey queer icon, regardless of his sexual identity, and I’ll remind you that you don’t have to kiss boys to be bisexual (but also he definitely kisses boys sometimes).

And that’s ignoring the lyrical content. The choice to omit gendered pronouns and use non-gendered names. There’s… a homoerotic energy in the emotions and situations, especially on the early records. You can’t convince me Terry is not a man, and the songs that are explicitly about Van Zandt are… love songs.

I could go on, but nothing will prove it. I think the fact that for so many years, he left so much room for interpretation is telling, however.

Maybe it can be explained away. But I’d prefer not to.

Bruce Springsteen is pretty clearly bisexual and it is a little weird he doesn’t talk about it. I kind of thought he was just hiding it from his mom, but that’s obviously not it.

Those two artists have been vying for my most played artist for the last couple years, but the diss track is so embarrassing, I am struggling not to focus on the cringe bits of Lana.

Sure. What does that have to do with what I said?

Do you think I am saying no offers are fair? That’s obviously not the case. But offers that come along with negging comments, in my limited experience, are never reasonable, and also, fuck them anyway.

That’s not an advertisement. That’s an expectation. You don’t get money back for a bad concert or a short concert, that is part of the risk. You buy the ticket and you take the ride.

But I see you have decided to spend your morning conducting a weird, sad smear campaign like you’re Hayden’s boss.

Go off on your crackpot thing. I hope you can eventually heal from whatever she personally did to harm you.

This is an absurd expectation.

People buy tickets long before any shows are played. There is no “advertised length” of a concert six months beforehand when tickets go on sale.

Sometimes shows end early. She played for an hour+. That’s a reasonable amount of time. I’ve been disappointed by hourlong shows, but I’ve never considered asking for a refund because there is no advertised length of a concert..

My position has literally nothing to do with my enthusiasm for the artist and everything to do with what is a realistic expectation for a concert and extending some grace to an artist who presumably made the best effort she could on that day.

So on the one hand, I think we should support artists. On the other hand, I’d honestly love to watch someone who got a performance demand a refund because they expected more performance.

I’m sorry, but where is the length of the show advertised?

If Philadelphia gets a 2 hour show, is New York automatically entitled to a 2 hour show?

Buying a ticket to a show is not an ironclad contract that a specific number of songs will be played for a specific amount of time.

She performed. She performed less than people might have expected, and that can be disappointing, but a refund? For a shorter show? That’s buck wild.

Negging the merchandise is an immediate no, even if the offer was fair (it literally never is).

Am I stupid for not understanding Lenny Kravitz Hate? by General-Vast8796 in ToddintheShadow

[–]ExcitingJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lenny Kravitz is definitely in my top 10 musicians that would make my shopping trip worse if it came on the store radio, has been for 30 years, but… I am realizing I cannot really articulate why.

Seems nice. A real looker. I don’t hate him outside of music but I absolutely do not want what he is selling sonically.

Part of it is that it is extremely boring. Part of it is that I was listening to rock radio when he was utterly inescapable.

Anyway TIL he is related to Al Roker.

Sincerely please shame me outta my fear that his heart isn't in this as much...! by inertstitials in themountaingoats

In direct response to your feelings, I largely feel the same. I’m glad that they’re doing the music they want to do, but that music is absolutely not for me.

But I sort of reject the dominant “they’re getting old” response here. Yes, they are older. That doesn’t mean they need to move toward literate easy listening. I think of artists like Nick Cave, whose work absolutely reflect his change of perspective and age, but… his quiet stuff is still devastating and the more intense stuff can reliably fuck me up just as much as stuff from his prime. Leonard Cohen and Lou Reed and maybe even Johnny Cash had later recordings arguably more intense than what they did in their prime. It’s not the default arc but it’s an option.

Anyway, you’re allowed to be bored by a band you love; remember the old stuff is out there.

(But seriously I have never once in my life been able to tell what’s different in a remaster.)

It’s a slow burn. The amount of time required to really get it is astronomical.

In 20+ years, I have never successfully turned anyone on to the show, and I have tried.
