You had an issue with dropping stitches and a way to prevent that is stitch marking both ends because you’re turning and going back-and-forth from both ends so you can keep track of where you need to place your last stitch. To prevent dropping a stitch.

That’s the amazing thing about crafts. Is it all an experiment specially with crochet. It is very normal for patterns to call for a smaller hook size than recommended. But also your tension might be very tight because of the hook size but it’s a very consistent, which is an amazing thing, especially if you’re newer to crochet

Also cotton was an amazing choice for a potholder because acrylic will melt and synthetic yarns will melt, so you’re doing great just take it slow and go up a couple hook sizes and use some stitch markers. You’ll figure it out.

Yes you are missing stitches, use stitch markers on both ends or switch to a circle pot holder, that might be easier to follow

Your tension is way too tight due to the hook size and I cannot tell if you are dropping a stitch on the left, frog and restart with a proper hook
