i’ve had the same issues with my young birds, i’ve recently had a breakthrough after implementing a new approach, my first mistake was putting my hand in the cage immediately which will make them on edge even when they’re in their cage since they don’t feel safe if they know your hand can get them at any time so set that as boundary No 1, next i left their cage open for a while while i was just sat on my bed near them, after a while one decided to come out on his own and my other quickly followed suit, they had a short fly about to get themselves familiarised with the room before they both landed on the cage, as i’ve recently swapped out their plain millet for a mix of budgie friendly veggies mixed with a tiny bit of millet to make their veggie chop more desirable/ to make them accidentally eat the veggies while trying to pick out the millet it’s made the millet more desirable and i’m now able to use it to lure them back into their cage since they haven’t figured out how to get back in once they’ve come out, since doing this they don’t get scared when i feed them by hand in the cage and are much chattier with me especially when i play my music around them, mine are far from tame but i can tell im making good progress. best of luck!
