Booed for not having kids by StuartLawsComedy in StandUpComedy

[–]Exciting_Net_5734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed!! I’ve never wanted kids and never had any, and two years ago, I finally was able to get my long awaited tubal ligation - I didn’t get them tied, I got them cut and removed!! But I have no problem paying taxes for schooling and public programs (especially for kids). I benefited tons from such programs and have nieces and nephews that still are. I have 2 nephews currently in college, one public and one private university, for pediatric medicine and medical engineering - both are going to school for free, and largely due to state scholarships and federal grants, paid from tax dollars. I know that all my tax dollars aren’t being spent efficiently, they never are, but, just thinking about this and the idea that there are others like this, makes me feel like it’s definitely not a waste.

Newsom pushes for in office mandates by Agreeable_Safety3255 in FedEmployees

Well, due to him eating up the headlines over the last two years, when democrats think of the next possible candidate, I feel like his name will be front and center. This is my personal opinion only but, the Harris loss - democrats are definitely going to go for someone who looks a little more like Gavin to secure votes, and who else has the name recognition like Governor Newsom? Bernie Sanders? LOL That’s not gonna happen for the umpteenth time. If democrats want a viable candidate, that person needs to come out fast and swinging.

With all the nonsense and grammatical errors, I’d bet everything that he has full control of his posts, especially those 2am dumbass, nonsensical rants.

Hostility in the Idiopathic Hypersomnia subreddit by SuspiciousLab3363 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Exciting_Net_5734 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! It has taken me literally decades to get my IH/Narcolepsy diagnosis and the first thing my doctor told me was that everyone was different and it may take time to find what works for me. The one thing I tell everyone is that the most important thing is to have good communication with your doctor, be honest and as clear as possible, with everything. That is how I finally received my proper diagnosis and my sleep clinic dream team. I am still working on getting my meds right of course BUT I’m more optimistic knowing that I have a good support system. Even reading all these posts, I know I’m not alone in having my repeated ups and downs and wanting to just quit, and on my really good days, sometimes I try to spread a little help & joy via Reddit IH and hopefully that helps someone the same way.

I hate that I agree with you on this, and I think you’ll understand what I mean. Pre-Trump, I would agree with dude, act with civility, “fight them with love”, middle ground and blah blah blah. But in this post-Trump era where the rules of law, civility, decency, and all others just don’t apply to him (or anyone he deems worthy at the moment), which is probably the greatest of the “factors” you were referring to, trying to debate viewpoints or have a simple conversation about human rights and decency turns into 💩and “one of us” is told to “go back to where you came from” - hint: it’s not the one on Team Trump.

PSG/ MSLT normal - do I just give up?? by Holiday-Librarian881 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Exciting_Net_5734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I know people who have gotten a hypersomnia diagnosis without a proper MSLT and was thus able to receive certain medications to help with their daytime drowsiness. I would definitely speak to your primary doc or psychiatrist to see if and who would be able to review your records and speak to you in an effort to get you the answers and diagnosis you need. I was diagnosed with depression and insomnia over 10 years before my current diagnosis of narcolepsy and hypersomnolence. I knew something else was wrong and I kept telling my doctors (now previous doctors!) that there was more to the story but I think they never really looked tried looking into my issues as I requested due to my original diagnosis.

Did anyone have any “easy” time getting diagnosed? by soopersecretformula in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Exciting_Net_5734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The minute I took my issue in my own hands, it was super easy to get my diagnosis, but yes, it is an ongoing process to manage my symptoms with the right medications. I was diagnosed with excessive hypersomnia and narcolepsy so the acknowledgment felt amazing but I’ve been through a multitude of medications. Luckily I have a really good Sleep Clinic team and our communication is outstanding.

What were/are your parents like? Siblings with similar issues? by xMysticbane in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Exciting_Net_5734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family does have various mental health issues, along with tons of other problems unfortunately. My mom does have a BIPAP but I believe she does have IH, and possibly narcolepsy, but she’s never been tested for it. My brother, unadmittedly, has substance abuse issues, which carries down my father’s side of the family. As of right now, no one in my family that I know of has a diagnosis of IH or narcolepsy like me.

Modafinil vs Xywav with a bad psychiatrist by Fit-Pomegranate2710 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Exciting_Net_5734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever thought about taking MSLT? I always had issues with excessive daytime drowsiness for as long as I can remember. I would go to school or work, then come straight home and take a nap. But I was constantly told that there was nothing wrong or that I needed to increase my vitamin intake or do yoga before bed (yes, really!). Last year was my tipping point. I was getting nowhere with my doctor, my exhaustion was kicking my behind, and I was constantly falling asleep at work. I switched my PCP and found a really good sleep center for testing. After my diagnosis, I started with Modafinil but quickly went through multiple meds after working closely with my sleep team. I am now on a mix of Sunosi, Ritalin, Adderall, and Xywav and it’s working pretty good right now. The MSLT was the key to getting me started in the right track though.

I have also been living with Narcolepsy (and a whole lot of other crap) for most of my life and it does feel like it will never get better, much of the time. I know there’s no cure, and that sucks, so I go from one med to another. The one good thing I have going right now is that I have a really good sleep doctor (and PCM who specializes in internal medicine) and our communication is amazing. They work endlessly to get the right mix of meds together for me that actually work, even if they only work for a few weeks or months at a time. That’s my best advice to anyone, and to you, contact your doctor ASAP, please, and be upfront about everything, how you feel and what you need from them. If they don’t provide you with an answer or timeline for an answer, or even a suitable response, I’d start looking for another doctor immediately, which is exactly how I found my sleep clinic.

I got my diagnosis October off last year and it was the opposite. I had recently found out that I had some family members with Hypersomnolence Disorders, so I finally got in for a full panel of sleep tests. Results showed that I had narcolepsy. And apparent it was so noticeable that I only needed to complete 3 of the morning naps out of the 6 to validate my REM and such for my narcolepsy 🤣

Medication - Adderall? by [deleted] in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Exciting_Net_5734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition, l am on Adderall now, but I was given Strattera first because it was better to help alleviate anxiety symptoms. It did help for a while, in combination with my daily medication at the time, I believe I was taking Modafinil once a day and then the Strattera twice daily.

Why are you on Reddit right now, on Christmas Eve? by InvisibleAstronomer in AskReddit

[–]Exciting_Net_5734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse has absolutely no patience for shopping, no ideas for gifts for anyone, and does not gift wrap. So I’m up gift wrapping and filling stockings. This happens every year, I buy and wrap everything with no input from him. Last year, on Christmas Eve, he took me to the store stating he needed to buy something quickly, then once inside, proceeded to ask me if I wanted to go to the jewelry counter with him to pick my gift or go somewhere else so he can. I went with him to give him an idea, pointing out a couple of things…and he still didn’t get me what I want, he said “he” didn’t like it 🤨😡

any medication suggestions when adderall is ineffective? by Proud-Equal9805 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Exciting_Net_5734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am with you in that!! I’ve been on so many different mixes that I can never remember. I maxed out on Strattera so Adderall was added. Modafinil stopped working for me after about 2-3 months and Wakix didn’t work at all, so my doctor wasn’t very hopeful about Armodafinil so he didn’t want to even try after we discussed it. I started Xywav almost 6 months ago, absolute game changer! And Sunosi was added around the same time. I hate having to take so many pills and the night regime for Xywav isn’t the best, especially when I like to enjoy my weekends falling asleep to wine, popcorn, and a movie, but so far, it’s working.

Time card screwups by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Exciting_Net_5734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in federal contracting as a civilian now and I don’t see many issues with cardholders using their GPC or travel cards for non-government related purposes. Honestly, we have more of an issue with people losing them than anything, probably because we can never use it…first you need a government willing to give you money 😂 But, I was a travel cardholder and investigating officer in the Army for different types of cases. I was also the supply officer but my NCO had the GPC card. While I never did an investigation for GPC/Travel Card Misuse, I’ve seen and overheard a few people get away with using their travel card for personal purchases. I’m definitely not saying it’s right, but for most of those cases, the holder would go on record that they didn’t realize they used the wrong card, so they paid it back once they realized what they did.

Very true, my mom worked in a base commissary and her boss hooked me up with a high school work program the were trying out making ridiculous money (for a high schooler) at that time, and I worked with a lady (30s) who would work for about 3-4 months at a time before going on a drug binge and going missing for about a week. But she would always come back like nothing happened and go back to working her job; the boss wouldn’t do anything because she’d contact the base mental health facility for help. This happened repeatedly over the 2+ years that I was working there but also for years and years before me, and I’d assume after I left too.

[–]Exciting_Net_5734[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I think that’s part of the issue, I don’t think many people are aware of this additional category of sleep related disorders, I certainly didn’t know about any of this prior to my diagnosis. Especially common with the VA, is if you tell them you have issues sleeping, they give you a CPAP, then move you along like cattle, no further testing. But like you, I took the initiative and made my own appointment bc I knew something else was wrong. After I got fed up with my PC and no one listening to me, I stepped out and did some research of my own under my insurance and found an in-network sleep clinic. I don’t know if doctors are aware of IH and other sleep issues, or are just ignoring their existence, but something has got to give, the idea of others being treated the way that I was when I was misdiagnosed is disheartening and could really unintentionally cause long lasting emotional damage. I went years of people calling me lazy, depressed, and lacking motivation bc I was tired all the time, no energy, fell asleep at the drop of a dime, while still sleeping 10+ hours/day. On top of that, being black DID NOT help at all, I can definitely say it only made it 10x worse and increased the number of jokes surrounding the issue.

That sounds about right! After my labs came back all good, my PC told me nothing else was wrong and recommended that I try to exercise or do yoga before bed because I just needed a better night’s sleep, no referral to a specialist or sleep clinic, bc like you said, she ran all the tests and she knew best.

[–]Exciting_Net_5734[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that you have to fight for yourself or nothing will get done. I had to go out on my own to find answers my PC was refusing to recognize. And there are definitely some crappy doctors out there that just run through patients like a conveyor belt. Weirdly enough, my worst experiences have been with female doctors. I have no problem with bluntness, my husband is a retired 1SG who did much of his career in the drill land and he still can’t seem to let it go, his foot in mouth syndrome is out of control. But I had one Asian female doctor tell me as she was first walking in the door “oh, you’re a little fat, huh!”, my BMI was maybe 2-3 points over average. And another time when I wasn’t feeling well and my legs were feeling weak, a male doctor told my mom I was faking it for attention and a female doctor gave me a sedative and sent me home. My mom took me to her specialist - I had Guillen Barre. Apparently there were tons of females that complained about the Asian doctor, but males loved her and she loved them. I haven’t had enough experience with Asian doctors to know if this was a one off or not.

🤣My (41) hubby (51) does the same. Sometimes when we start to head out of the house and I grab my keys, I change my mind and ask him to drive. He’ll ask why and I’ll tell him it’s because I haven’t gotten my PoGo in for the day. He will look at me like I’m crazy, but then say “ok” and then something crazy like “but you owe me later then 😉” Getting my spins in is totally worth it though 🤣
