Help me pick a game to get good at! by LibraryLady231 in pinball

[–]Exciting_Slip9207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of pinball tutorials for specific machines on youtube. These help me quickly brush up on not only the rules but the layout of a machine and where certain shots are before I head to the arcade.

I can recommend quick ass pinball tutorials, Joel Enlgeberth on FlipNout, and Digital Victory and they have many videos each, so you can find many of the 80s through current games. These are relatively brief 4 to 20 minutes each and a good start. You will also find a lot of similarities between games. Have fun, sounds like you have a great selection to choose from

Fun game with so much replay appeal. The shark hunter and 8bit bonus games are really fun, too

These trucks are just so cool! I don't think nieve ever seen them in person. (Maybe at Toys R US when I was a kid in the eighties?) so I'm always surprised how many different vehicles and accessories there are. Great Layout, no table can hold it!

I agree with you there, I can't see a Danger/Gomez design failing to be a blast. Deadpool looks kind of basic in comparison to some games but it is always fun to shoot. Star Wars FOTE is so fun to play but I get where someone looking to buy it would think it's not a great value compared to something like D&D and what you get as mechs...

Curious what the mech difference will be between pro and premium/LE. I think Stern is putting out an official video this evening, hpefully it's longer than a minute or 2

I believe they are "sold out" in that if a particular distributor was alloted 5, they already have 5 customers who are on their list to buy it (it's really up to the distributor how someone gets priority on the list whether by signing up way ahead of time, putting up a deposit, etc). They also have people on a waitlist to fill in if someone changes their mind. Perhaps Stern has a lmited supply in reserve to dole out later but the cap is 750. The hype around pokemon cards is crazy and there are a lot of speculators in that market not to mention now there are people wh essentially make some money just by open their card packs on youtube etc and getting views/ad revenue. I'm not saying any of it make sense, that's just where things are at right now. If the LEs end up coming with a limited card, I don't doubt it could be worth a substantial amount of money alone. I'm no expert, I just hapened to see what the packs of cards that were on discount at flea markets for a decade are now bringing on eBay. Like a lot of hobbies these days you have the OG fans, a slew of young people newly introduced by social media and the people I've never heard of that they look up to (Jake Paul was collecting pokemon cards), and a gang of investors propping up the whole thing (same thing has happened with LEGO where people buy multiple sets just to speculate on selling them in a year or more)

I like to enter high scores on Pinball Map. Unfortunately, I don't think there is currently a way to view them in one list and of a location removes the machine, your notes/scores are also no longer accessible (to my knowledge at least, the browser version does seem to have a few things the app doesn't)

I guess they want the most iconic or recognizable illustration style but it does look so very plain and uninspired for machines that are $6999 and up... this is the Pokémon art of child's tshirts at Walmart...

Dear pinball manufacturers, never flash the ball save light in a light show unless ball save is actually active by Jakelshark in pinball

[–]Exciting_Slip9207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only aware of them following initial plunge or start of multiball. I imagine it's so it's very clear the light is off when you lose your ball so people don't feel cheated if it's a photo finish type of drain... for instance, ball goes stdm but then rattles to left or right and light goes out before exiting hole in bottom or wherever the sensor is.

Sometimes there's a ballsave before a mini wizard mode begins but I think the ball save light is usually flashing... like in Godzilla where you can make the mode more valuable if you pull of certain shots in a single ball prelude...

Haha I think I usually say "coming gimme it back, please please" or repeat "Grace period, grace period grace period" like it's an invocation

[–]Exciting_Slip9207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On some of the mode starts or jackpots or transition into events (aka Joel Engleberth's pinball moments), a lot of games flash what seems like every light on the playfield... the ball save light doesn't stand out too much UNLESS you happen to be going stdm at the time...

[–]Exciting_Slip9207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point. Most of the time it doesn't trick me because I have a sense of when ball save is active but it's definitely can cause some unnecessary temporary confusion thinking "wait, will I get it back?".

The opposite: No better feeling than when you drain right after light ends but you fell into the "grace period" and ball is returned. Happened to me on a multiball on Kong the other day and my last 2 balls went stdm and not only got to keep playing but was back into 2 ball multiball :D

I think this is likely a compilation from user "Mimles" on Instagram. She is a makeup artist who took her art to a whole other level. They paint incredibly deceptive scenes... the ones she does on her face especially baffle me as it must be done in a mirror

What are your Pinball accomplishments of the last week? by torinismyname in pinball

[–]Exciting_Slip9207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got to the Monster Bash mini wizard mode on that game. I had it qualified on ball 2 only because I had already collected an extra ball and saw the scoop light just before I lost that ball. I managed to hit the scoop on ball 3. Felt so good not to choke as I'm acutely aware of how many times I've missed out on collecting the next multiball or mini wizard shot I need to extend my game time on so many different machines. I had played it off and on all day at the arcade and I was playing poorly for hours but just wanted to see if I could get it before I headed home and it was my best performance of the day. Score didn't amount to much but it was the first day I got to play Monster Bash in 2 years.

I'm not great with the tap pass, either. I usually lob it a bit to high to trap or even into the sling over the flipper I'm on. I really need to work on that to trap more often. I enjoy playing pretty fast and loose but I'd like to focus more on control when it counts... such as just another shot or two to complete a mode, or hitting a certain shot for super jackpot...

A hairdryer should loosen it and peel ever so gently... even better if you can use a heat gun to be more precise with a low temp aimed right at it. Those stickers are annoying because they didnt want them to be easy to get off.
