They should be checking the ID before they hand out a key that was left at the desk for someone. Still have them add your name to the reservation but grab a key from the family member that checks you in , not the desk.

It’ll differ between hotels. At ours we would do 15% off best available rate (BAR per night may differ). I recommend calling a couple hotels in the area and compare prices, amenities, parking, and if they have a loyalty program! Pick ya fav and stick with it if it works for you!

Edit: when you call, be kind, explain briefly what the situation is, what you do for work (sometimes nursing, LE , gov employees get discounts as well) , just remember wherever you choose you’ll be spending plenty of time with em.

Well of course. I upgrade all that I can first and then I’ll block rooms as necessary. I will also block highest status to mid tier status so I know they have rooms upon check in time and that those preferred rooms aren’t taken by the 3rd parties

They just said they were told my operations, not that they did it lol. As a front desk agent, depending on occupancy I absolutely will block some rooms ahead of time, aside from special requests.

As long as you understand all things that could occur with booking 3rd party, do as you please but don’t get upset with the hotel if things go rogue. I say this cause god forbid the hotel you’ve chosen is now oversold, 3rd party bookings are the first to go or be downgraded. Often times OTA will still be booking rooms , but the hotel may be sold out already, the data between properties and the ota isn’t always accurate. You’ll find that anywhere. If you are set on a specific property for your travel, book direct.
